Sheridan BS: how to mount a vintage 4X Redfield scope?

I bought an old Redfield scope without the mounting rings. Most of the scopes I see on the internet with the dove-tail mounting rings as pic below, but I try not to add another dove-tail piece on the gun barrel if I could. What is the best way to mount it?

Rings are easily had.  Without a dove-tail piece on the barrel or receiver, I know of no way to mount a scope on a Sheridan.  There are a few options in clamp-on mounts.

This works very well, rock solid & doesn't promote barrel separation like some do. Can be mounted scout style or standard over the breech.

Pyramyd has mounts that fit on you receiver with 11mm onto for rings.

Thank you gents. So far all 3 methods require 2 pieces: one clamp on the scope and one clamp on the gun barrel or (receiver). There is not an option to use one piece that clamps to both scope and barrel (or receiver)?

Nope. You rifle does not have a dove tail to clamp the scope rings onto. You're still going to need an adapter.
Tim McMurray @ Mac1 Airguns has machined grooves in some Benjamins to do what it sounds what you would like to do with your Sheridan.

Hmm, why no body have made a mount that clamps with two round openings ( like a big number : a larger 1" opening for the scope and a 10mm (or whatever the OD of the gun barrel) opening for the barrel? With the screws tighten down in the middle, the clamp should hold the scope and barrel together with one-piece mount. Am I missing something here?

Well they did make that one back in ‘62 shown in another thread. From what I read in that thread, loading pellets can be a bit of a challenge because of the mount. Not to mention that they are few and far between. Not sure why anyone hasn’t duplicated that design.

Its a good idea. Nobody makes them. Makes too much sense.

Having to have the scope mounted over the breech complicates making a clamp on or "sandwich" mount, at least for a gun with a flat sided breech area like a Blue Streak. I would want it to be tough enough to use the scope when pumping.

I use the Baker mount on my new 397s and grip the scope to pump - all stays in place - very solid mount.

I actually caused barrel separation on my 1967 Blue Streak using the Sheridan scope mount back in 1971.
I sent it back to Sheridan in 1976 for repair.
I believe I have a 1975 action on my 1967 stock.
I do not think the barrel was re-soldered by Sheridan.

I did some looking around and these look interesting.  Especially the second one.  I didn't know that you could get them at WalMart...

What I hate about putting a scope on a Sheridan is that you can't see through the scope and get a good cheek-weld at the same time, (without a custom high-comb stock).

The top one goes on a barrel. I had them on my 1377. Don't know about the bottom ones

The top one is a Crosman - not very solid because you do not want to tighten too much - scope can move around.

The Mac1 IA mount is still the best mount for a ’Dan or Benji as far as I’m concerned. Doesn’t promote the fore mentioned barrel separation and is versatile enough to be scout or breach mounted and is rock solid.
You just need to use low rise scope rings.

Tim makes good stuff.  I'd go the same route if I was scoping mine.

I like a low scout scope, this is easy enough to make. It works very well with a light scope, this one is for a 3/4 inch Redfield IER scope. Total weight is 8 1/2  oz. Higher mounts and heavier scopes get more leverage on the barrel but maybe not too much?

+1 Dave! The Mac-1 mount is probably the best if you must use a scope on a pumper. Placing the scope over the grip point of the barrel is not wise....especially on a steroid gun. Tim talked me into using a Williams peep on my 14 pumper. Tim advice is always good enough for me! dave
