I Got Avenger 25 Back Still Leaking After AV Leak Fix

Wonderful! I wasted $30 mailing back the Av Avenger .25, for leak fix and it comes back with only 1200 psi in the tank after supposedly filling it and letting it sit overnight to ensure no leaks, then mailing it back to me. It took a week to get here and it's sitting at 1200 psi! hey!!

Obviously, Air Venturi could give a &^^& less that they sold you a sure-to-fail product, they know without a shadow of a doubt the poppet is bad, will make you eat the charge to send it back, and then not fix it and try to make you believe it's fixed. I haven't refilled it or shot it, nor run it over the Chronograph, but was told in the note sent back that it was tested and no power drop, all seals were replaced, and no leaks overnight before shipping it back to me.

I had a power drop running the 33.95 gr MKII's which were running around 870 fps, the power dropped off to the very low 800's and high 700's with the same pellet. Ok, I get some power drop when the gun settles in, but that's more than a drop from settling in, that's a problem. Then of course I got the wonderful air leak. Apparently, they forgot to mention that they couldn't replace the poppet or valve if there was an issue because they don't have the parts yet had me send it back anyway. The note says all the seals were replaced, power was fine, and no leaks. I haven't even aired it back up yet, I've been stewing and steaming over it for a few hours now. The only way to fix this thing is aftermarket parts, they could have told me that at the beginning instead of wasting my time and money to get a leaking gun back, not sure if anything at all was done to it so I haven't filled it and tested it yet because I may pop if it's still running the way it was when I sent it to them.

So, the moral of this story is, "Never buy an Air Venturi gun and never expect them to honor the warranty on anything." That's what I've learned and I'm sticking to it. I'm not speaking out of anger, I've taken a few hours to cool off at this point, but I will not waste another second on them wasting my money and time as if it's theirs to send me back a gun that may be leaking worse than when I sent it to them the first time, just nonsense, horrible repair service with horrible company morals. I think the part that makes me the angriest is that they were not gonna fix it in the first place, they know they didn't carry the parts, knew more than likely what the issue was, yet had me send it to them anyway, that just makes me so mad, and if this weren't a forum that I have to mince my words I'd be spewing paragraph after paragraph of choice words of what I think about the whole mess.

I did encounter a few issues with my Avnger (mine is a .22) also regarding holding air.
I have no idea if our issues are related or not, but my leak did get resolved relatively shortly. Parts being new and not necessarily perfectly clean, my avneger needed a break-in period. I am hoping it will be the same for yours, because I love my Avenger.
Here is what I did:
- 2-3 drops of silicone oil in the compressed air filler port. (P 7 on my manual) Some people do it every few thousand shots.
- Refilling over a dozen times the reservoir after shooting it empty. I have a Yong Heng compressor, so it was a painless process for me.
- Purging the reservoir manually a few times by unscrewing the air release valve (Page 8 on my manual) and tightening it back up. My issue happened to be at that valve. Probably a burr that was stuck and slowly released air. Now when I tighten it back up, I gently nudge it a but more than what feels 'enough' if it was a regular screw, not hard.

In hopes you can solve the issue yourself the same way and enjoy yours soon!

 If it is holding the lower pressure, they may have shot some out to lowere the pressure for shipping, many company are now shipping guns empty even, I would fill to 3000 and let set 24 hours or so to see if they may have done their job.

I’d call them and tell them what you told us. Refuse to pay for shipping & demand they cover it. You could always threaten to give them bad reviews and tell them you’re a GTA, so potentially hundreds if not thousands could read your account on what happened. Bad publicity for them.
No way would I let them off the hook or pay shipping so they can “practice resealing” your rifle.

I've had mine since December, done several things I was told to do like dry firing it down a few time to seat the poppet, put a couple of drops of Super Lube silicone oil on the fill tip before filling, checked the degassing screw, it's had well over a thousand rounds through it. The leak kept getting worse, I was doing things AV told me to do, and I've been through GTA and AGN to learn about it. Basically, it's all come to getting aftermarket parts and doing it yourself, or have someone else to do it. Come on man, it was sent back to the shop to be fixed, has a paper with it that says it was filled and tested overnight then shipped. As for letting air out to ship it, I get that, but 1200 psi? from what I understand it needs to be at or above the reg pressure to keep the reg from getting messed up, I could be wrong on that, but that's what I read about it.

I'll find out, hope I'm wrong and over reacting, but it doesn't make sense for it to be that much below the reg pressure is my thinking.

That's what I'll be doing, waiting to see what happens. The issue with it is that from what I understand, I could be wrong, but it should be shipped above reg pressure to keep the reg from getting messed up. There's nothing in the note about degassing before they shipped it, the final step (they listed numbered steps that were done) was checking it after sitting 24 hrs before shipping, nothing about degassing. I'm soooo hoping I am wrong, I've been told that if it shows up with the pressure that low it's leaking, they need more pressure on it for the regulator to not get messed up, but again, I could be completely wrong and overreacting, I'd feel stupid, but I kind of hope for it.

Something is going to be done for sure, people know my gun, a lot of people know me, I make airgun youtube videos, not a big channel but they know who I am and the Avenger videos are a hot item. I'll have to see what happens, if it holds air then I am fine, I hope so and that I am overreacting, but it's talked about a lot online about the funs that are filled and show up low on air like this. I do understand not filling them up due to pressure changes, but from what I understand they are supposed to keep them above reg pressure or it can damage the regulator. I'm not feeling real confident, I wasn't told where the leak was, they just resealed it all, you'd think they'd let me know what was wrong, Don't know but I'm gonna find out, right now I am not feeling confident at all.

Op, If its leaking from the valve and poppet. you can make a delrin poppet or modify the valve like i have done in the picture. may need a lathe.

2000 + rds through my son's avenger. Most have been fired at or over 75 yds. Amazed at the accuracy, it really likes the H&N 18s.

That's what I was going to suggest. A friend of mine recently sent his Aspen into PA to get a leak fixed, it still leaks and it cost him$84.

I don't think you can judge leaking based upon as received air pressure.  My 25 Avenger originally arrived with 1900 psi but leaked.  I sent it back and it was returned 5 weeks later not leaking.  I have left it sit with 4000 psi in it for a week and it did not go down.  I probably have the reg a bit high and may turn it down as soon as later today, it is currently at 2400.  But I think my velocity gain versus 2200 may only be 10 fps.  I'm only getting about 20 shots on a 3500 psi fill (that is where my SCBA tank is at the moment).  Maybe with a little lower reg setting I can get a few more shots and not loose significant velocity.

I shot some 5 shot groups at 33 yards today to test H&N Barracudas versus FX 25.4 grain.  I got smaller groups at 50 yards with the Barracudas.  But I was tired when I shot and it was windy so I wanted to see if the H&N grouped better than I thought.  They do not.  I got 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch groups from the Barracudas at 33 yards.  Biggest FX group was 9/16.  Smallest was 3/16.  I'm back to looking for more FX or JSB Heavies to show up.  I canceled my PA order for the Barracudas (fortunately it had not shipped).  My point of bringing this up is to remind you that there are good things about Avengers - like accuracy. 

It's hard to fill a gun and leave it sit for a week.  But even a couple days can tell you a lot.  Before I sent mine back it was loosing at least 100 psi/day.  In 2 or 3 days the loss is obvious.  Hopefully there won't be any.

The statement is supposed to be exactly what it states. And yes, I am of the opinion that all Chinese guns are "poop." Just my observation.

Chicom airguns do make a good bases to make a great gun but need lots of TLC to preform.

It's nice we have choices and if somebody doesn't want to buy from China they do not have to.  But there are a lot of good deals on airguns and related equipment coming out of china.  Like my Yong Heng compressor.  My chinese hand pump is also very useful (at least before I got the compressor) and a much better buy than my Benjamin.  But the first valve setup for my SCBA tank, made in China, did not work - wouldn't seal to the tank.  The replacement cost over twice as much but it works great.

I think it is pretty obviously biased to call all Chinese manufactured airguns "poop".  I think my Marauder pistol is better made than my Avenger but my Avenger is still a pretty nice gun IMHO.  It has great adjustability and better accuracy than my Prod.  I shot a 3/16 five shot group with it at 33 yards yesterday, for instance, and a couple 3 shot 1/4 inch or smaller groups today.  There was some but only light wind both days.  My Prod will do this at 25 yards but not at 33.  My cost to send it in to have a leak fixed still didn't bring my cost up to the current selling price.  I can't think of another $350 20-50 ft lb airgun this accurate.  It is also light to carry and reasonably quiet at lower velocity settings.  Even at 50 ft. lbs it is around 90 db.  I feel no need for hearing protection.

I got in trouble last time I talked about China and the Avenger but I'll try again with a different tact... In the knife community which I'm also a part of, there are Chinese companies that employ good people, source proper materials, and create their own designs.  Those companies have become well respected amongst the community for producing quality knives that represent a good value.  However these companies aren't the ones producing the $29.99 gas station specials, most good Chinese knives cost $100-$200 dollars, but they're still half the price of an American made knife of the same quality.  If anyone is curious just compare Kizer to Chris Reeves, a CRK Sebenza is $375 for a base model where as a similar Kizer is $170.

I think it's the same with airguns, an American made airgun with the Avengers specs would be closer to $1000 so we should expect a high quality Chinese version to come in around $500.  For the $350 they charge I don't think it matters where it's produced, corners are being cut somewhere to get the price to where it is, a Huma regulator alone is half the cost of an Avenger so what kind of quality can we expect for the money?  I don't want to criticize anyone for their airgun choice, I just want to lay out reasonable expectations for pricing and why I have always been against the Avenger since it's announcement.

Bingo...maybe not in the same factory, but they do have state sponsored slave labor in mining and other industries. I try my best to avoid anything with the words China on it. Love the people, but not the dictatorsahip that controls them. Also modern day concentration camps? Hard pass
