Just Bought a 392S :-)

I have a 1964 Sheridan and a few Benji 392 's --- but I had to get a 392s --- Why, just as a truck gun !!! - I must have 6 truck guns :-)

But now my question, anyone shoot Seneca Domes ?, anyone shoot slugs ?

Was hoping to shoot Seneca Domes about 550fps - is that doable ? Looking to do 6-7 pumps

Not going to do all the semi Steroid mods I did on my other Benji 392's but I will put a stock pouch on her for holding extra goodies, maybe a sling. Can't decide if I will go with the original iron sights (if they are usable with this stock), go to a Williams 5D peep sight or go to what my other guns have that works great --- a NcStar 2.5X pistol scope and those standard dual rings that are &^^& unless you tighten down very lightly and use strong double face tape to hold the mount secure instead of screw force, so far that has worked well for me :-)

That scout scope mounting system is very, very fast and keeping both eyes open and a clear field of view is a big plus -----  not to mention pumping the gun is MUCH, MUCH easier and very natural. The gun goes to where your looking, you are on target NOW !

Well they just shipped my 392s in 22 cal today and it arrives Monday. My scope and butt pack arrive today and I already have a mounting system that I got from Tim McMurray a while back. I'm getting ready.

I have had my 392S for about a year.
It will work fine with Seneca domed 28.5
I have also put the seneca 32.4 pointed through it, and Crosman 14.3 hollow points

I have not cronoed it yet, but they feed fine.

That is great news about the Domes. Hoping for a good solid over 500fps for a hard hitting 25-30 yard field gun. That gives me about 13fpe at 35 yards.

I'll chrono her when I get it, I plan on about 6-7 pumps.

Ordered some standard mounts that are known that can split your joints.

Well I use double face tape around the barrel and don't tighten it down to much, my other same mounts that I have used the double face tape technique hold like Fort Knox that I have on my other Benjamin's !!

I like these mounts because they are low and can be mounted anywhere on the barrel. This is great for those of us that like to use a scout scope set up.

I'm  Jonesing for that gun tomorrow :-)

Got the gun need to to take the gun out of the stock, open up the trigger and sand down that area that stops de-cocking of this gun.

IMHO, THAT IS ONE OF THE WORST FEATURES OF THIS GUN !!

BTW, I was pretty impressed with the synthetic stocked version. Yes using the factory iron sights is a challenge but it can be done if need be, yes the comb height should be at least 3/4" less.

The mounts I put on the gun are good, but look like $%#÷. Once I get the other mounts, I will install my double face tape technique to these mounts, and then put on the rings, and then take pics :-)

BTW: I sized a bunch of Seneca Domes, so we will see how they do this weekend.

As I'm waiting and Jonesing I ground down the ear on the trigger, now the gun can be uncocked. I also sized about 200 old Beeman Kodiaks to 5.53mm to make things uniform. My mount comes in Friday and I will mount them as I mentioned using double sided tape on the barrel section and the main tube as It takes up much of the pressure on the welded joint area yet is rock steady and will not move. The mount is a good bit lower than the mount i have on the gun now which makes the gun more compact and more to my liking.

I put the tin of resized Kodiaks and a tin of resized Seneca Domes in the butt pack including 24 Inches of very tough thick coated wire that can be used as a prod to remove stuck pellets if need be. Also included is a small tube of Mac1 Secret sauce for the joints and general valve up keep along with a small rag and a set of allen keys for scope tightening if need be and a small Phillips screw driver.

When I was researching 392’s a few years ago, I saw a chrony report of a stock 392 at 8 pumps with Eunjin 28.4 gr. at 510 FPS.

I know my latest 382 was shooting 25.5 gr. Jsb’s at 514 FPS. on ten pumps in stock form, but was also retaining air on 10 pumps.
It’s had the steroid treatment by Mac 1 airguns since then.

Sized another 120ish Seneca Domes to 5.53mm --- ya, it was a chore, These pellets can shoot great in your gun but it is quite obvious the folks that manufacture these pellets have no idea about quality control. Lead shavings all over the place and some noses that looks like they came from a pig !, normally I get 2+ pellets out of the tin that are whacked out and unusable.

I'm really hoping I get about 500 fps with 7 pumps with these Domes, would like to get that with 6 but I don't think so.

Shot a few shots at the office with 18.13gr Jumbo Heavies just to make sure the pellets were going on paper. They were shooting way high so I brought it down a bit. The guns mounts will be changing and the new ones are a good 3/4" lower,  I am hoping to be shooting Kodiaks in general and Seneca Domes for more serious work,  (if I can get close to 500fps with a reasonable pump stroke with the Domes).

I don't plan to do a lot of shooting with this gun, it is more of a "GET 'ER DONE" kind of set up. Simple, hard hitting at close range with fast target acquisition (because of the scout scope set up). These guns if taken care of can last for years, in reality not to much to go wrong.

William, When the 28g pellets went by the Eun Jin brand name, they used to be very dirty as described. Then they cleaned up their act & quality went up. Now that they bear the Seneca name, sounds like they are backsliding on quality again.
I would give them a Dawn & hot water washing, then coat them with Krytech.

Quality is not like H&N for sure, I have had some tins that are pretty nice although ALL are oversized. The 22 cal I had yesterday were (IN GENERAL) quite hard to press through the 5.53mm sizing die. All pellets had oil on them and were lubed, and I have no problem with that for me.

BTW, My scope mounts come in today, my cheap sling is arriving on Saturday ;- )

I checked the bore size with lead on three 392s to be 5.575mm. The Seneca domes are bigger than that, some are harder to chamber than others. Good accuracy but slow. The most accurate for me has been the HN ftt in the 5.55 head size. Only 14.3 grain but makes everything else look like flyers .

Hey Wil I kinda wish you had not posted this - I had been looking for a SHTF self-contained gun (no compressor or CO2 needed, etc.) but decided to hold off since I bought so much stuff lately plus was having eye surgery.

But now all this talk of you getting one, plus the highly interesting subject of scope mounting, plus your scout scope setup has me all interested in wasting my money again. Even though I cannot see well enough from the surgery yet!

Where do you get your 2.5 scout scope setup from, how often do you need to check your double-stick-tape mounts for tightness, how's the durability of the Mac-1 IA mount, have you ever tried the SuperSear from AoA (and does it eliminate the non-decocking feature), and which height is better for the higher comb of the synthetic 392S -- the Mac-1 mount vs. your lower double-stick-tape mounts?

Sorry for so many questions, my last Benji pumper was in the 90's and I recall the two little factory scope mount bases as being rubbish and kept not only loosening, but seemed to affect the barrel joint as well.

Also, with my recent eye surgery I may be able to just use std. open (or maybe peep) sights, so I need to see how that will work out before buying too many scopes, rings and other accessories...

So far I have not had trouble with the heavy double face tape. I'm pretty easy on my guns also that that might add to the long life of my mounts. The holding screw is semi firm and the scope rings are tight. The double face tape totally stops from any forward or backward shift, the side to side if held by the wings of the mount bet they are not tight. I might add I double faced a strip of leather under the handle so it is not as loud when she closes on cocking ; -)

IMHO there is not a mount yet I really like for this gun.

The scope is a NC Star 2.5X pistol scope I bought of eBay I think ($35.00 ? I Think)... they work OK for what they are. The long eye relief greatly helps with any parallax you may have but with 2,5 power you don't have much parallax. keeping both eyes open you look at the target and the scope is right there, very, very quick. I use this on my Marlin 1895 4570's  -- Thank you, the late Jeff Cooper !!!

I sanded down the trigger piece that stops you from de-cocking. I always put a pellet in,  after pumping the gun up and then de-cock for carry.

I get my cheapo sling in tomorrow and will send a pic of that also. it will be attached via paracord through the front spring pin hole and the paracord looped around a strap on the butt pouch on the back end. if the back end does not hold i will mount a swivel in the stock.
