I don’t think it’s going to be laborious, and Bear Air should be able to shed light on it.

I don’t have a Challenger nor a Fortitude but Crosman/Benjamin does the bolt probe to barrel sealing in 2 ways: O-ring around probe tip or O-ring inside the barrel leade.

Most often, it would require amputating an inch from the loading section of the barrel to make way for a new port hole and some other minor machining to ensure proper sealing.

I wouldn't consider a LW barrel until you get it and shoot it, you may be pleasantly surprised at the results from the factory barrel. Mine gets 1/2" consistently at 40 yards with the occasional much less. But, if you do want one, I believe it is plug and play. No modifications necessary.

At 50 yards, with NSA slugs, I can get sub-dime sized groupings off a full mag running at 2500psi. Quarter sized at 100 yards.

For a box-stock $300 air rifle, what more can I ask for? This is why I have absolutely no intention of messing with this rifle. It works perfectly and was a laser right out of the box.

I really want to get another one just to take apart and have fun with it. Not going to do it with my one that is working perfectly. But I have other projects that I'm currently working on.

I found one in .177, which is really my choice

It appears to be in stock, so I emailed them just now.

Everything lines up on the LW barrel except one barrel flat for the breech set screw. Easy fix. I just filed a flat spot.

What is the OD on the crosman LW barrels? The challenger one is 11mm, which fits loose in the Mrod breech. All of the LW barrels I have are 12mm and have been machined down to 7/16" at breech. Curious.

Yea, I sent Chris a quick msg to see. While I have been aware of the crosman LW Mrod barrels, haven't handled any. All mine have been machined from 12mm blanks. I had a challenger barrel way back when, to try to use on a G1 Mrod. It was a loose fit at 11mm. Needed a soda can shim. Maybe I'll be surprised that the whole barrel is 7/16" OD.

The W and S are for the stock's material ..
W for a Wood stock
S for a Synthetic stock
L is for a Lothar Walther Barrel.
R is for Regulated.

So a Marauder Field And Target with Lothar Walther barrel, in .22, is model number BP2264RLW while the F&T with the Crosman barrel is BP2264RW.

Also, the first number is the caliber, the second number is the model a 64 is a gen 2 while a gen 1 is 63. So a .25 is BP2564, a .22 is BP2264 and a .177 is BP1764.

To make things a little more confusing the Fortitude Gen 2 in .22 is Model: BPF22SG2 and the .177 is Model: BPF77SG2. Maybe they were going to offer a wood stock option.

It's perfect for what you want, out to 50 yards max.
I would not worry about the barrel. Most (like mine) are very accurate right out the box.
You said you like to tinker. Search "Disco three screw trigger job". You can achieve a very light trigger with the stock parts.
