Well I have always had a soft spot for Korbel brandy... Moms Hubby had a 7+ acre place nearby... toured the winery/cellars as a kid...

Today tasted my first batch of Brandied fruit in a long long time...with some Legend Ice Cream(local place)...

first brandied fruit I had was Mom's make...

Some times it can be a just right thing...

I didn't make "brandied" fruit, but I did ferment some peaches with a lot of sugar, and made some boozy fruit.

Btw, it was GREAT with Vanilla Bean ice cream!

Well...hmm... How do I say this... do not want you to see me as a northwest snowflake..

supposedly my generation was the last to cut our teeth with east Texas Shine...

but,

Inspired by Mom and a local Artisan Ice Cream... They make their own aged vanilla bean extract(cold or hot extraction or blend do not know?)...I do think the bean blend is mostly Madagascar Bourbon vanilla bean... and it is an extract (not like my dyi vodka infusion, works but loses complexity)...

point is some of the best Vanilla Bean ice cream I have ever had... so yep a touch embarrassed to say $30 a half gallon ice cream...

but early this year it got me thinking about Mom's make and Vanilla ice cream...

The D'Anjou pear was from a tree I planted 30 year ago... the Elberta peach 15 years ago(his predecessor succumbed to peach borers)...The grapes I cloned from a friends Black Monukka vines about 10 years ago... had to buy the pineapple and M cherries...

We sat on the grass near the back porch after dinner as the sun went down toasting Mom/Grandma while I told a couple stories they had not heard yet... was a simple quiet just right moment a couple months in the making...

One of the stories was about the time Mom (when I was about 12 )made plum jam and a few bottles of plum syrup... the jam was excellent.. the syrup was put in soda bottles and sealed with wax...

well mom liked Maple syrup so after tasting it she did not have any more...she never knew that my french toast and pancakes for a while were topped with plum booze...

Oh, man, does that take me back. I have always felt that I grew up in the golden age of cartoons. Rocky and Bullwinkle, Looney Tunes, Fractured Fairy Tales, Dudley Doright, the list goes on and on, but I can't remember them all right now. Saturday morning was the golden time of the week for kids in the mid sixties. And they were good enough cartoons that you still enjoy watching them once in awhile on Youtube 55-60 years later.

7-UP Simple
It is the classic 7-up reintroduced.
Nothing artificial..
It is made with only six ingredients, which include carbonated water, real sugar and lemon and lime extracts.
Period... that's it.
What a great chaser or mixer it is.

Real sugar come from a plant called "Sugar Cane"... not something a scientist created called "high fructose corn sweetener".
