We lost our Radio Shack years ago as well.
I remember going to them and buying electronics... you know... resistors, diodes, rheostats, transformers, meters, decent raw speakers and cross-overs...
Then it became a "cell phone store". 

 MY Radio Shack closed last summer, had a big sale, was hard not to buy it all up while waiting for them to hook up my phone.

Wooooooo pitter patter up and after ringing in to he new year with a 5 hour round trip to Ohio's orafice. Pretripped and about to get on the road. Drive like a lunatic the idiots will be out.

Our Radio Shack is privately owned and operated by the Frost brothers. John and Fred mostly do computer repair for the locals. They buy refurbish and sell used computers as well. That is their core business and probably what keeps them going.
It's not like a Radio Shack of days gone by. They don't have all the resisters and gadgets. They sell some cell phones and services and basic computer and networking products. They are also a drop off location for UPS and offer some money sending services.
You can order pretty much anything electronic related from them but you can get a better selection/options by ordering yourself.

Big storms are predicted to blow through today. Possible tornadoes and winds up to 70mph with rain.
Believe it or not, our safest place to hunker is in the bar/mancave. This building is more than 100 years old and it is the old ship beam construction. It's also not located under any trees such as the old growth that hovers over the mobile home we live in.
The vehicles will be moved out from under trees and ATVs will go under the lean to at the bar.
We have all the amenities we need in the bar including indoor plumbing (bathroom), fridge and cooking, internet and streaming on the big screen. If the power goes out we have oil lamps and candles if needed. We'll take a cooler of ice and simple food supplies in this morning. Plenty of propane for cooking if needed.
I had shut the water to the building during the hard freeze so I'll get that turned back on at the meter.
There are also a variety of airguns, pellets and sbca tanks topped off.

Welp plans have changed weather is too severe to operate in a safe manor .

They have closed the schools and many businesses around here for the day. The bad stuff is supposed to come through this afternoon.

They just predicted as much as 5" of rain with this system. That's a concern with this sandy area. The root systems will loosen and the big winds will blow the trees down. The large dead branches and limbs will become heavy with the wetness. 2 waves expected, the first late this afternoon and the second during the night. It's all supposed to clear out by 7am tomorrow.
All in all, today will be a day, and a night, to stay on high alert.

Tying up loose ends of the retirement process. Unload animal food before it rains, load chicken feeders, clean up around the yard. Just chillin' for the most part and waiting to see what the weather brings in the next few days.

ATVs and trucks are moved out of danger. Turned the water back on at the meter for the bar and checked for leaks... all good.
Gonna keep a close eye on the weather and see how things progress.
We had a small sprinkle shower move through already.

Good morning/afternoon GTA! I had a doctor’s appointment with lab work this morning, so I stayed in bed way past what I normally do. That’s all done and I’m at work now. I’ll take it as it comes until it’s time to go home. The past few days have been weird. My wife and I had a spat on the first, Sunday, right before I rolled out to work… when I went home we found out a nephew took his own life at 24 years old. My brother-in-law’s (my wife’s oldest brother), his oldest son. No one saw it coming. Yesterday my wife was on the phone all day and I just milled about on call, waiting on a job that never came. Hopefully, sometime today my wife & I start feeling more normal. The spat we had was really stupid, then the bad news. I feel like we’ve been in the twilight zone since.

Nothing wrong with a spat from time to time. Better out than in, I always say.

I sat on the deck at the bar and watched 5 or 6 mini showers come through so far. None lasted more than a minute and they were 10 or more minutes apart. 2 of them were pretty strong but no wind yet. It's cool to watch them move across the property. I could hear them coming through the woods.

Good luck John.  Regular visits to the quacks are the downside of having lived this long.

The memsahib and I are doing major landscaping today.  Leveling the pad for our new green house and rebuilding some of the dry stone walls and split rail fences that surround our homestead.  I've got to finish bucking up a big old Live Oak we dropped and pick up a load of fill dirt.  Mid-afternoon I'll fire up the Po' Buckra smoker and start slow cooking a variety of meats.  I've got a pork loin, a beef brisket, a dozen chicken drum sticks, and some Andouille sausage.  Once the fire is built and the meat is cooking I've got a nice Dominican Churchill and a bottle of dark rum!

Not an easy scenario, the suicide thing, John sir.

I was there when my FIL committed suicide more than a decade ago.

He locked himself up inside the master’s BR, then did a temple shot with a .38 SPL hardball round—not the best choice for such action ‘cuz there’s no expansion at all, I tell you.

I had to smash the door with a hammer ‘cuz kicking it in a narrow hallway wasn’t doing it any good.

He survived for about 45 mins even with that injury.

I actually have a video of it in my old CP, but I accidentally left in the Philippines.

Oh, he was so tired of fighting leukemia, being transfused with blood every now and then and all that, so he decided to end his life while we were having dinner.
