Mornin y'all.  Driving boats again today.  Last tour yesterday was cold and dark.  Not a gator to be seen.  Same again today.  Fortunately the big gray sweet potatoes (manatee) are everywhere.  I've been negotiating with a fellow on line about buying a couple of air rifles but I'm getting more and more suspicious as we correspond.  He doesn't answer specific questions about the guns and has only provided some blurry photos.  I asked a make or break question via email and if he doesn't give me a straight answer I'm not buying.

I think I am all set for the storm.
Last night I fired up the snow blower with fresh gas.
Got the kerosene and propane heaters out of the shop and into the house... made sure they are filled and still work well.
 All I need to do is fill the Kerosene can and the spare LP tank after work today.
Then hunker down for a 4 day weekend.

Lol we are not getting hammered.

That is a nice haul, Dan! I always have plenty of coffee… I’m the only one in the house that drinks it, so I was prepared there. Ayrabella has gotten hooked on the mini powdered doughnuts from our local Harps grocery, they’re actually made by Hostess, and Ayrabella was running low.

I just ate them at work, so when I didn't go there any more it was fairly easy to give them up. There are a lot of snacks in a chain Grocery store, the hard part was getting a break when there was time to buy and finish eating on a 10 though. I learned to eat fast, LOL.

Boston cream honey buns sound great, I love Boston cream filled Chocolate Donuts.

Good morning GTA! Happy Friday! I’ve been awake off and on since 0320, so I got up at 0426 CST and made a cup u coffee. It’s cold out there, brrrr! We’re all electric here, no gas, no wood stove. We only get this cold once in awhile, my heat pump can’t always handle it though. I can’t always convince my wife, so when she comes up with a plan I agree with, I let her have at it. We normally keep our thermostat set at 69* heat ad 72* cooling 24 hours a day. Well, we got a jump on the big freeze and set the thermostat to hold at 71* heat and did good, even at -1* outside at nightfall. But overnight, in the dark and the wind, she’s falling behind, right now it’s -1* outside with the windchill it’s -26* and it’s 68* in the house. Once the sun comes up & the outside temperature rises above 0*, it’ll catch up and we should be able to release the hold temperature back to 69* heat to give her a break. Plan is to stay warm today. From here on it’s supposed to get a little warmer each day until next Thursday it’ll be in the 60*s.

Mornin' it's in the high teens and low 20's outside this morning. But the wind is swirling at 20mph. That's a bit sketchy live under the trees her in the woods. I've been awake off and on all night listening to small objects hitting the metal roof. I heard a pretty good thumb about an hour ago. I suspect a good size limb hit the ground.
Me and the dogs will go out and look things over when the sun comes up. They only stuck their noses out the door after they ate and didn't go out.
I need to check the water faucets in the outbuildings to see that it's still dripping. Weatherman says we'll be back above freezing late on Christmas day. He said we will spend 56 hours straight below freezing temps. This will be the coldest it's been around here in several years.
It took 3 hours and 15 minutes to go from 53* to freezing. that's amazing... not including wind chill.

This morning I opted to dump a packet of Hershey hot chocolate mix in my 20oz coffee. Reminds me of some of the wintery mornings when I lived up north.  minus the snow.
If the wind dies down I may get out and fire up a small scale bonfire.
You folks up there in the snow, be careful if you get out and about.

Around here where it's so damp and no snow, a patch of black ice will really sneak up on you. Not enough traffic on the county and back road to keep the roads warmed up.

Temperatures are starting to drop here this morning. Trying get the rest of the stuff winterized around here. Get most of the fruit off the trees and get them juiced. Move plants to the fish cleaning shed and move the propane heater to it. Cover up the rest of the plants and exposed plumbing. Hopefully this will be the only arctic blast we get this winter.

Woke up to -7 here John... 

I hear you, Scott… everyone is cold, I think. I went ahead and released the temperature hold on the thermostat. The main reason I put it on hold is because it’s a commercial tstat and on hold the blower in the air handler stays on constantly. I have a filtered return in each bedroom and the office, besides the big one in the living room above the tstat. It keeps the whole house at a more even temperature, even with the doors to those rooms closed…
I grew up in the northeast in a nearly 200 year old farmhouse with a wood stove in the kitchen and a fireplace in the living room, no AC except a window unit in the living room through the wall. We had an oil-fired boiler in the dirt basement for hot water. We cut & split wood year-round and shared the firewood with an uncle who helped us cut and haul it and used it at his place, too.  We survived and were pretty content living that way. If we ran out of oil, cold showers were had.

I really kick myself in the rear for being in the HVAC industry and not having a better system here, despite how good it really is for where we live. Right now it’s 45* in the garage at least with no dedicated heat for it.

Now that the last kid in the house is turning 10, I really should get an alternate heat system (wood stove) just in case the power goes out. Or keep the temps up without working the heatpump as long as we do. I grew up with it, so we learned early not to get burned.

I can't believe it's 52 degrees at 0730 where I live in So NH.   It's been raining all night and it looks like rain all day.    That would be 2 or 3 feet of snow if it were colder.   Easy winter so far.   It'll be windy and I worry about losing electricity.   I'm a generator collector but it's a hassle hooking them up and keeping them fueled if the power goes down.
