Mornin y’all.  Packing to leave for Texas today.  NOT a vacation!  My FIL has gone into a nursing home and we have to clean out his house.  It’s going to be a major undertaking.  NOT looking forward to the drive or the work.

Cleaning out and straightening the shop...
I need a shovel.
Maybe a back-hoe.

This keeps popping into the forefront of my mind and would benefit me in so many ways, just need to figure out how to prove my need to my wife:

I could do SO much (damage) with a BobCat tracked Skid-steer just like that... it makes my head spin!

I had the same thought with the Kubota until I had to clean up the destruction I made with it. NOT fun! It's like what do I do with all this. What's even worse I have a backhoe with a thumb as well. I had to start pacing myself when destroying the yard.

Good morning GTA! Happy Monday! Up at 0415 CT. I’m having my second cup of coffee and Millie came out to join me. It’s getting ready to thunderstorm and it just might rain all the way until tomorrow morning. I’ll be working inside today. I have another expansion valve to replace in a cooler. I’ll probably still get wet, I’ll have alot of stuff to bring inside throughout my day. I’m going to visit the chiropractor on the way to work. I hope all goes well today. I hope everyone has a great day.

Off to work, I start my on call schedule again this Friday, that usually means a urgent case and no or little sleep. Also, no root beers.

Mornin y’all.  Second day of my vacation.  Not pushing things.  We intend to leave for Texas tomorrow.  Our first destination is Buc-ee’s!  There’s a Buc-ee’s in Spanish fort so we will stop there.  Then on to the Big Easy!

Well, my tags on  the trucks expired yesterday. The state claims that I let the insurance lapse at some point last year and the registration on both trucks were suspended. I took a half day off work Friday to get it straightened out but, the state system was down and I planned to be late to work this morning to fix it.
Got to the courthouse at 8am with proof in hand from the insurance company that I've had continuous coverage on both trucks since they were purchased and registered. I was then told that the insurance company has to file with the state.
So back to the insurance company I went. Frustrated they went through the online process and submitted the proof. The system now says pending and up to 24 hours to verify.
No choice at this point than to call the remainder of today off and wait for a phone call to go back to the courthouse.
Meantime both trucks have expired tags....

Bill, Tennessee is in the process of issuing new metal plates for many [MANY] vehicles.  So this has caused a delay in receiving a current plate for my son's pickup (which lives in my closed garage).  I am driving it around with the expired plate hoping that a Tennessee State Trooper stops me.  Maybe he can get something done where I have failed.  At any rate, the truck will not sit because of their problem.

Alabama is a very lenient state. I've seen vehicles drive around for weeks with no tags waiting for paperwork or whatever. The cops don't even bother them. It may be different with expired tags... that would be my luck.
I know that when we moved here from Ohio I was used to renewal happening on my birthday in November. Here it goes by the first letter of your last name (April). I drove for well over a month on expired tags before I realized it.

I have an elderly woman member of the Ch**ch, her car failed the smog check and she ended up driving it with expired tags for 2 1/2 years!   and eventually was able to get it fixed, passed smog, and current registration. I guess the problem was some part of the vapor return system. The fact she was not stopped by the CHP and impounded is astonishing. I had a tag stolen off my plate and was stopped right away.

You just need to know the right mechanic.  I used to pay my mechanic 50 or 60 bucks each year for a smog certificate in CA. I was running a 1904 CC custom VW boxer with dual Weber Bug Sprays and a stinger exhaust in my 73’ Thing.  No way that sucker would pass smog!  I don’t know where he got the certificate but he could always get you one.

Just rent one. An equipment rental place will even haul it to your place if you can't do that. I don't know what it would cost but it would be way cheaper than $38k.

Rolling out for Texas in a couple of hours.  I like to get an early start so I can beat the worst traffic in Houston.  Time it right and you can sail right through.  Get it wrong and it is the heck of ten thousand idiots.  Gonna spend some time down at my FIL’s farm in Atascosa county.  We’ll be going through the old fellows stuff and taking what the memsahib wants.  He’s going into a nursing home and he wants her to come and take anything she wants from the house.

Good morning GTA! Happy Tuesday! Slept in until 0440 CT. Both dogs wanted out this morning. I decided to keep an eye on them with my spot light and there’s a whirly vent from my roof about 30 yards from my house in the backyard. Apparently, we had some heck of a storm, as was predicted. I’ll have to inspect, take pictures and cap off the throat of the vent when the sun comes up. We’re supposed to dry out today and then 2 more days of rain. Hopefully, the attic didn’t get too wet, I’ll have to climb up there too, besides the roof. Fortunately, my first call is local. First, I’m having coffee with the dogs.

Miraculously, the attic wasn’t wet at all. Climbing on the roof in that area was sketchy. I capped off the takeoff with a industrial trash bag and duct taped the heck out of it. I’ll have to get a new 12” vent and replace it on a dry day. I’m going to get something low profile. Those whirly vents are for the birds~

Good morning GTA! Happy Wednesday! Up at 0445 CT. Having coffee with one dog so far. Chopper wanted out and Millie stayed in bed. Today I have a freezer not keeping temperature and leaking water, first thing. I try not to consider too much before I get there, it could be anything. After that, however long it takes, I have a PM to do with filter change and coil cleaning. It’s not raining now, but it’s supposed to kick back up midday. I got my main supplier to get me a new whirly roof vent, should be in today. I might be climbing back on the roof this weekend to get that replaced.

Good morning GTA! Happy hump day, yep it's Wednesday! Up at 0445 CDT.

John, I've been busy working at my younger daughter's house and I haven't had much time to visit the forum. I'm just now reading about the damage you had from that storm. I hate you've had to deal with that.  Yes it sounds like a miracle to me the attic didn't wet at all.

Years ago we changed from whirly vents to power vents and the after one of the motors on one of the power vents shorted out and almost caught the attic on fire we took those out.

In 2005 when hurricane Katrina came through we had to replace our shingles and at that time we went with ridge vents. No more whirlys or power vents for me.

Today I'll continue my search for building materials. Last Friday I ordered six windows for my daughter's house, it will be nine weeks before they arrive. We ordered an exterior door to go on our house Monday, it will be  three weeks before it arrives.

The building materials shortage is crazy.

I don't why I'm up at this ungodly hour!  I don't have a job, I'm not going fishing and it's too dark out to shoot.  Later this morning, we're going down to Lufkin for Martha to look into Belk's.

I reckon I'll shoot a bit this afternoon.  There's nothing on TV. {sigh,}

My roof has 18" of closed cell foam. No holes in the entire roof. Vents are temperature controlled and open on the back side of the gable end. Mostly only in the summer if temp brakes 75 degrees up there. Ceilings are 28' high and can pack some summer heat so the vent is needed to exhaust it.

Roof issues are the worst. Hope it works out for you.
