Well the phone company dig crew showed up to dig the trench for a new phone cable today. The old one failed about a month ago and was shorted underground. So we get a new line from the road to the house, 695 feet, thanks to ground squirrels or gophers? If it weren't the Church phone we probably would just drop the land line, but the phone company has to pay for the repair anyway... it lasted about 40 years.

Did they run it through conduit? If not the critters will just chew through it again and hopefully no time soon.

Nope, no conduit and I was surprised [size=78%] to see them only go about 10" deep. [/size]


40 Years ago when the last line was install minimum req. was 18" and they installed it about 2' down. I think there are a lot fewer chew throughs at the deeper depth.


I guess I will HAVE TO continue to protect it by shooting as many as I get a chance to.

Good morning GTA! Happy Thursday! We’re iced in with just a couple inches of solid ice on the ground. I’m on call this week, but I’m not planning on going anywhere today. I’ll probably have to work this weekend, it is what it is. I got up about 0515 CT, we had a movie night again last night. My wife is really liking that. Not sure what I’ll do today, but whatever it is, it’ll be indoors.

It is winter this morning in sunny Southern CA. at my place. 28° out, burr.
I did laugh a bit last night when I saw the "hard freeze warning", but this is chilly for So. CA anyway.

I plan to stay warm today and still enjoy the brisk air a bit. We had rain the last couple of days with some snow in the surrounding mountains but not on the south side of the hills where I live. On the other side of the hill towards Hemet and Idyllwild it snowed Wednesday morning down to the foothills at my elevations though 12 miles away by road and only about 3 1/2 - 4 miles as the crow flies. Now the ten day forecast says we will be back in the low 80's by next Tuesday with the overnight low being 53° then.


The temp just dipped to 27° which looks like a record for Feb 24th here according to the Almanac.

At about 6:30 each morning a very large Covey or more than one Covey?, about 75-90 Quail go west through my front yard. I like watching them on their run through. Before dark they will go back to the east to end their daily routine. They spook easily but I have some security cameras so, I can watch without bothering them. This morning it was 26° when they went through.

Good morning GTA! Happy Friday! Up at 0430 CT. World news is awful right now. Doing my best to stay focused on what I have to do today. As soon as the sun is up I’m going to roll out to work. I have at least a couple calls I need to get to work on, I just need to keep an eye out for ice when I leave. Hopefully, we thaw out a little today. Hopefully, Ukraine can stand strong.

I'm drinking coffee now but I'm about to leave,  I have a curbside grocery order to pickup at 0700. It's 45° and rainy. Hopefully, it will slack up enough that my groceries don't get soaked.

It's not just Florida weather that is bi-polar We have had a low of 26°F and a high of 91° this month at my place here in SO CA.

What I am thinking about, I am hoping to buying a metal lathe about 8x32 benchtop unit.

What I want to build is a .172 pcp for shooting lead free ammo for say a 17fireball.

I have attached a screen shot of a barrel liner for reference.
I hope i have given enough information for you to see whats jumping around in my mind, also any recommendations for a lathe for less then about 1300. USD would be welcome as well thanks for an help available
