I woke up at 4:30 am.
Checked the outside temp.  Uff dah is right.  It was -20F & -35F windchill
I'll finish eating breakfast then shower and get ready for church.
I'm not exactly sure what my wife will want me to do today but she will have something, of that I am sure.

My Judy and I will do our weekly grocery run this afternoon. 
After that, we are going to watch some commercials on TV.  I heard that a football game might breakout during the commercials.

Tuesday we run for groceries and supplies, we usually get lunch out as well, call it "date day". 

I had to put on chemical goggles this morning to fill the boiler, the air temp burned my eyeballs last year when I was out in the bitter cold.

An aid at work quipped the other day that -20 was no big deal, it's just a few degrees below normal. 

I had her do the math, its 50 degrees below freezing! 

The same difference between 70F (a fantastic day) and 20 degrees, our normal nighttime low in February.

The wife and I are really looking forward to watching the super bowl together, she has a real good menu made up too, little sausages wrapped in bacon, queso dip, shrimp with shrimp cock tail sauce and a vege dish with dip. I think it's gonna be a good game too I like both of those quarter backs.

Good morning. Low forties and overcast here.  The SIL and I are going hunting. He is going to carry the RIM and I will tote my Hatsan 125.  We are going to try our luck in the Wakulla WMA today.  I haven’t hunted that tract in over thirty years.  I remember it back when it was paper company land. Lots of cover and beaucoup sinkholes.  Hoping for a rabbit or some quail.  Wish us luck!

Shoveled about 6" of snow yesterday on my 100' long 2 car driveway, plus another 100' of sidewalk. Woke up this A.M. to another 6-8" of fresh snow, only this time it was drifted about 3' all the way across driveway. Ain't done yet. Wind chill is -21. I called my "emergency" guy for deep snow like this, my back can't do 2 days in a row of this level of snowfall. 10 day forecast calls for about a week of -5F to -15F every night. Stock tank heaters are worth their weight in gold around here in weather like this.

We've gotten about 19" of snow in the last 2 weeks, but i shovel once the snowfall reaches 2".  I have to shovel more times, but it makes lifting the wet snow off the 3 car 67' drive easier.  Im getting ready to clear it again, however tbis time it's only 1" and light, as it's -8° this morning and no wind as yet. The asphalt drive faces south and the sun is shining, so it will be clear and dry by noon.

Shot some raiders (empty cans) with the 30 this morning.  Currently I’m surfing 🏄 and getting the pipes warmed up with coffee. 

Today we will probably lay low after streaming church.  I would like to get some significant trigger time with multiple rifles but at the same time I don’t really have a “plan” for it.  Anemometer shows winds moving 7-9 mph.  That doesn’t stop me from shooting or even shooting for groups.  I just like pulling the trigger. 

I have some wood shop projects that I have been procrastinating on.  I should go get the piece of material I need and start figuring a direction to go on getting that moving again. 

Other than thinking about those things I really don’t have a direction for the day.  I have a busy work week scheduled already so I need to recover from last week and rest up for next.  Plus life happens in between all that so I’ll just sit here and sip some more coffee and figure it out in a bit.

 Funny thing... all these years I didn't know the Lodge had a Bowling alley.... Must be downstairs.

Being as it is going to be around -40.... don't really plan on leaving the house!

Today my wife and I worked inside and finished boxing up all the inside & outside Christmas things.
Now I have to find places to store all of this stuff.  I'll be working on the storage detail the rest of this afternoon.

It is fairly cold out side today... but......

No matter what winter is like in Minnesota...winter is Worse.... in North Dakota.

Especially with the almost daily Ground Blizzards.

The terrain is fairly treeless & flat and....The Wind ALWAYS Blows !  (Both in Winter and in Summer)

Everybody plants multiple..Shelter Belts in N.D.

Back in the 1970's, when I worked as a field service mechanic for Ingersoll Rand, I used to do service calls in N.D.

Harvey N.D. was where I usually stayed at because it was centrally located between the coal strip mines and the big power plant in Bechtel.

North Dakota gave me an education about Seriously Hard Winters.

Harvey is horrible!  Nothing but flat up there and the wind can really howl!

Grew up mostly in Mandan, well out in the country west of the town.  Remember in 97 we were sledding off our roof....well after we tunneled out of our house.  It gets cold up here, but then add the 50-60mph winds and it makes things deadly.  Heck in the summer it can get over 100* and in the winter it can get as cold as -60* with no wind.  So we get some crazy extremes up here.

I am happy to invite anyone up here for a winter stay.  I can pull out some tents and hammocks and we can go camping out during this as well if you really want to feel the cold.




With things being windy, this is why I also fly RC planes.  Its fun to get the gliders up and cruise around all day on a single charge.  Either that or fly my fpv plane a few miles away and follow the rivers or what not.

Bowling is a family sport... I bet you have a great team potential!
Back when my 4 girls were all home, it was cheap entertainment, Shoes and a ball were included for the price of a round.
Add a $5 pizza and it kept us all together.
Simpler times.... dang how I miss them. 
 Now the Grands are coming of age... guess I need to rekindle, Huh?

I kind figured that but it put me on the bowling subject anyway.  Now I want to go bowling 🎳  We didn’t go this past year because of the C word.

Late post. My night really messed with my normal Sunday routine. I got to bed late and then was woken with leg and foot cramps 4 times. Each time took a while to get back to sleep, then there was the normal for me back spasms every 1 1/2 hours. I usually get up at 4 AM on Sundays and study for Ch**ch but when my alarm went off I decide to set it for 6:00 AM, well in my sleepy condition I set the alarm but didn't turn it on so I got the best sleep I have had in a while and woke up at 7:35 

Since I was rushed for time this morning, I even skip breakfast, and was busy this afternoon I didn't get on the GTA until after the evening service.

The weather was great/perfect with a high of 76* today. I left the heater off last night and the house was still comfortable. I'm sorry to those that are in winter, (no I'm not )  It the one perk to living here in So. CA

I woke up at 0430  CST. Checked the outside temp it is 33°F & 31°F windchill it will probably drop another degree or so before sunrise.  It's going to warm to near 65° by 1300 under mostly cloudy skies with a SSE 10 mph wind.

Not the best to tweak a scope, but knowing me I'll will probably try.

I promised I would hang some pictures for my wife today.

Good Morning GTA! Up at 0400 CST. I had a great weekend, so it’s back to the grind. Temperatures are supposed drop through next Monday/Tuesday and perhaps slowly climb back up after that. I’m glad I got the shooting in this weekend that I did. Next weekend I won’t be able to besides the cold. So I’m having my coffee and this morning I’ve got an hour drive to work in Kansas, OK. Should be a good day, it’s inside work.
