Dan, I buy all my carbs from Ebay. Way cheaper than repair parts from online websites. Rebuild kits are becoming the thing of the past for small engine carbs.

That's great Dan. About 7 years ago my 1993 Yamaha 4-wheeler 19 started running rough and wouldn't idle. I carried it to a guy who told me to buy a carb off Ebay because it would be cheaper than him putting a kit in it.  I figured he just didn't want to take the job. I check with the dealer for a price of a carburetor kit. Turned out that the kit was the same price as the new carburetor on Ebay.  I was skeptical but I  ordered the carb and it was an exact match. Now 7 years later it's still running perfect.

It's going to be a perfect day to shoot.  It's below freezing now but by noon it will have warmed up to 60° under sunny skies and only a 5 mph WSW wind.

Heard the trash truck come at 4:30 this morning. Rambo raised his head and i told him it was just the trashman. He looked at me and just laid his head back down. I swear, that boy is half human.

I wish, we only have a few paid holidays, this isn’t one of them. I’ll find out in 3/4 hour, or less, if I’m even working at all. I didn’t see my buddy in Ch**ch Sunday who’s interested in airguns. I’ll give him a call after I call the office.

Good morning GTA! Good morning John. I woke up at 0420 CST.  I had a busy day yesterday but I did manage to shoot for about 45 minutes or so.
My wife decided to start cleaning and organizing the attic.  So before shooting I promised to help her get some boxes down. The access to our attic is s folding ladder that pulls down. It is in our garage so I partially backed my pickup out and started going up and down bringing boxes through the 24" opening.
We have tons of stuff stored up there. I didn't realize just how much stuff is up there.

It was near perfect weather for shooting and it is supposed to be the same today. A nice sunny day, 61° slight SSW wind at 5 mph.

Good morning folks.

Got up at 4 am today and fixed breakfast.  I am going to take a hike today on my snowshoes to check out the hunting situation out in the state land that I hunt in. The temp is not too bad this morning & not much wind.  It is around +9F with a high today of around +12F with a north wind of around 6 mph. It is supposed to get cold later on this week... so I thought I would get out and check things out before the deep freeze hits.

After I get back, I will be working on my vintage Gilson snow blower.  I will be starting it up for the first time this year and doing a pre-operational check out & test run. This machine was built in 1969 and is the heaviest duty walk behind snow blower ever manufactured for homeowner use. I am not sure of the actual weight but this machine weighs as much 450 lbs and takes 3 strong men to lift it.  All the metal in it is very thick. The bucket is not sheet metal... it is welded 3/16 inch plate steel. The worm gear that runs the auger is huge and the auger shaft has grease fittings at all the bearings. There are grease fittings for the impeller shaft too. The engine has a replaceable cast iron sleeve. Everything on it is built to be taken apart & repaired.

It was given to me by a good friend about 12 years ago. His father bought it new and died about a year later. It sat unused in my friend's pole barn up until he gave it to me. Mine has an actual "gear driven" 2 speed transmission with forward and reverse. It does a 26 inch cut and has a 1969 Briggs & Stratton commercial winter 8 hp engine with electric start. Mine is fairly unused and is in great shape. It does have surface rust so I will be re-painting it this summer. I am in close contact with a gentleman who runs the "Gilsonian Institution" and I can obtain obsolete repair parts thru him.

Good morning Brother Dan! Good morning Tom! It’s funny but not funny to me, I can’t handle the cold anymore. Anything below freezing is not pleasant, I’ve been in Arkansas 11 years now. But growing up in NJ, I cut grass in the summer and ran a snow blower in the winter, until I joined the Army. I miss it, in my mind, but I do HVAC in the south now, so I need to stay acclimated for the hot, hot summer which seems to last a lot longer than our moderate winters. I swore to my wife I would not retire down here. I still have time to think about it though.
Nice machine you got there, Tom, that’s fantastic! Down here, especially with acreage, it’s most important to have a nice/heavy duty lawn machine, which I now have. A 54” Hustler FasTrak. I cut grass from mid-March, every week until October, sometimes a cut or 2 in November!

For cutting grass I have a self propelled Honda walk behind mower, a Torro self propelled walk behind mower and a fairly new Trot-bilt 25 HP riding lawn tractor with a Kohler engine. The walk behind mowers were given to me Free. I bought the lawn tractor a couple of years ago from the daughter of a deceased neighbor. The lawn tractor was 1 1/2 years old at the time and I have had it about 2 years now. The battery was dead on the lawn tractor and she and her grandfather said that they thought it did not run anymore. I bought it for $200. There was a problem with the key switch that was causing the lights to stay on and the battery to go dead. I replaced the key switch and wired in a single throw toggle switch for the lights so I could shut them off if I wanted to. Other than that there was nothing wrong with the lawn tractor. It replaced a 25 year old Torro Z-Turn riding mower that was starting to give me frequent problems. After about 15 years I had installed a new after market engine & electric clutch for the belt drive. It was starting to look like I might have to do the again but the mower was obsolete and the clutch was no longer available. I throughly explained all of this and sold it to a friend. He bought it for $200 for occasional use at his summer cabin.
In the end, the way things worked out, the fairly new Troy-bilt lawn tractor was free.

Work today, but last three days were quiet.  Spent time on future building site on the upper James.  We have carte blanche to build whatever we want; only 6 1/2 acres but...  Sonja got to really use my parang so she was absolutely thrilled.  Her step-dad got his truck stuck in some gumbo, and even the winch could not get us free.  A future neighbor came by with his Kubota to the rescue   The picnic still went on in 20 knot winds at 44*.  Froze our buttocks off but still a great time!  Yesterday we smoked an 8# Boston Butt and the rub Sonja created turned out perfect.  Also enjoyed some Pyrat rum- served warm- and did some more research into septic, concrete slabs, and power. 

Today Sonja gets her vaccine, round 1. 


Tom- I'm scouting for some equipment myself.  Kris turned me onto some BCS walk-behind tractors that fit my budget and needs perfectly, and I should be getting my Curt hitch this week for my Titan.  Next purchase will be a trailer.  I've been given 2 but both are too big for my immediate needs.

Anything good to pour in mower oil to clean engine deposits without making the seals leak like Seafoam does? I know B12 is stronger but I don't know if that makes seals leak though.

Got oil, oil filters, spark plugs, air filter, ohv gaskets and some seal swell for the mowers.

I'm going to fix breakfast then I have several projects to do, out in the garage.
It is - 2 F this morning with a slight south wind at 7 mph.
It is supposed to warm up to + 33 F today then go back down and get cold Thursday night thru Friday.
Maybe a snow storm coming this weekend...not real sure on that one yet.
The national weather service says snow for sure Sat afternoon and night....though no forecasted amounts yet.

Good Morning GTA! Up at 0340 CST. Yesterday was good work day. But a lot of work. I thought I was getting help, that was not the case. They dropped off the new unit, took the old unit and I was on my own. Today I have to go back to finish up a few things and start it. Won’t get above freezing til after 0900, but it’s supposed to get to about 50* again. And I’m looking forward to Sunday, supposed to be 58*!

Good Morning GTA! Up at 0427 CST. Yesterday was good day. But I didn't get much accomplished.  I cleaned and organized my range box that sits on my patio. I checked out some goodies that arrived my snail mail.

One of those packages that arrived yesterday were the Air Arms FALCON 13.44 gr pellets that SteveP-52 sent for me to try in my HW50. The pellets took 2 weeks to arrive.  Even though they were packed so damage could happen, remember we're talking about the post office, it looked like they were stomped or repeatedly stepped on.   So the skirts on those 200 pellets were carefully straightened by a 1/4" headphone jack.

Today I take my granddaughter to school and go by Walmart for a few items using their curbside. It's 49° now will warm to 65° under cloudy skies with winds N @ 4 mph. This afternoon, hopefully I'll try those pellets Steve sent.
