.25 AV Avenger

NOE has the bullet molds that Wayne likes in stock.  I just checked the website today and ordered one.  Now I need all the other stuff so I can cast up some pellets.  JSBs and FXs still not in stock.  Looking forward to not caring about what is in stock.  I want to mess with my hammer spring setting to see if I can tighten groups a little at my new 2100 reg setting but I haven't done it because I'm starting to run low on pellets.  Unlimited availability (if I spend a little time) will be nice.

I could not order with their website but I called them and did a phone order, that worked just fine.

Nice, let me us know how they shoot out of your Avenger. I would like to try casting my own slugs and pellets. Just don't know where to start.

Overcast and in the high 50s today so I'm set up in the mancave shooting out the south door.
I did a minor rebuild on the Vevor compressor yesterday so I thought I'd give it workout today.
All I had to do to get it running again was to replace the small cone shaped seal at the top of the high side piston.
I also changed the circular disc with the hole in it, cleaned it out and changed oil.
What better way to work it in than to fill the Avenger .25 to 4k several times?
I reckon it was successful since it filled the Avenger from reg setting at 2300psi to 4k in 30 seconds ><.
Temp went to 127* with a large Folgers container for water supply.
But, it's not about the compressor is it?
It's about the Avenger.....

Of the several guns we have, this gun is in the top 3 of my favorites... barring a few with sentimental value.
My choice of scope for this gun is the UTG 3-12x44 AO SWAT Accushot Rifle Scope

This gun shoots the H&N Crow Mags 26.24 and the H&N Hunter 27.47 pellets like they were made for it. It shoots a variety of others good too... not pellet picky at all.
Today I am shooting the Crow Mags.
Lets have a look at some numbers....
6 Mags at 8 shots per mag runs from 4k down to the 2300 reg setting perfectly.
I did notice, as seen in the string, if I slowed down between shots the reg had time to catch up better... not a big deal, maybe just a few second pause.

I never got my cast pellets to work in my Avenger.  I even sent my mold back to NOE and they sent a new one and it did not help.  Several of us thought maybe the pellet skirts were smaller than the drawing NOE provides.  I think they are but I am not convinced that is the issue.  I think my barrel just does not like them.  It likes nearly anything made by JSB but nothing else I have tried.  FX 25.4s seems to shoot the best.  It shoots cast NOE pellets about like it shoots H&N FTT or Barracudas or Benjamin domed. 

I wish there was a simple way to get a handful of pellets from a mold before buying it.  It seems to me like the same risk we face when we buy a tin of pellets but we risk $20 or less for the tin and $100 or more for the mold. 

I cannot even find a mold line on most of the pellets I've cast.  Their weight is at least as consistent as the pellets I buy.  The velocity is good so I think the skirts are sealing the groups are just not so good.

I purchased a 25 caliber P35 and it shoots the NOE pellets a bit better but still not nearly as good as it's favorite - H&N FTT.  If I had to shoot cast in this gun I could but groups would be bigger.  The cast group in this gun about like the FX 25.4s my Avenger loves.

Yes you really have to take your time between shots when tethering to a HPA bottle while shooting. Most HP air lines are slow fill with tiny orifices that take a bit of time to get pressures equalized.

Wonder how much weight the wood stock adds?
I will agree with the haters.. that plastic stock they used is kinda chincy.

About a pound. Mine is definitely heavier than my friends, but feels alot nicer than the plastic. Worth it to me, but some might really like the light weight of the plastic. As far as buying a new one, do it. Just hope you get a good one as far as leaking goes. Buy it from somewhere you can exchange it if necessary, and you will be good to go. I haven't read any complaints in the accuracy department.

Yep, I own 2 Avengers and I like the lighter weight. I'm in full bloom of Geezerhood now and enjoy the Avengers light weight. I also like the light weight and weight foreword balance of the plastic stocked guns when shooting offhand. Something I wind up doing quite a bit when "walking them up" while hunting.

I'm probably gonna catch it for this but....
I've never even so much as cleaned the barrel on this gun. I set the reg down to around 2300 and never looked back.
I thought everything was right in the World when I bought an air compressor and became air independent.
No more running down the road to fill tanks. No more testing tanks. No more running out of air in the evenings or on Sunday.
Along came this gun and changed all that again..
Oh, I got all the air a man could want.... 3 compressors and 5 tanks.
That, in itself, created a problem....
Keeping pellets in stock.... 
This gun absolutely loves H&N Baracuda Hunter 27.47 pellets. Out to 50yds. it's lead on lead.
I have set up to run 6 mags, 48 shots on a single fill of 4k. That comes out to 3 fills on a tin with 6 pellets left over.
With that side lever, the only time I have to take my cheek off the stock is to swap mags. I don't even have to open my left eye or move the crosshairs off target.
You do the math... I can burn 6 mags in well under 5 minutes.... maybe another 5 minutes to connect to the YH compressor, air the gun and be back at the bench. If my gozzindas are right... that's roughly 30 minutes to blow through a tin of pellets.
Heck, the longest part of the whole process is loading pellets in the mags. And after awhile, you get pretty good at that too.
So now the only thing to slow the roll is to walk out and hang some paper.. not so much.
I have a scanner printer and a 4 wheeler. Spit out a target and jump on the 4 wheeler to go hang it.
Best thing I ever did was to put a laptop on my shooting bench and log into the GTA.
At least now I can take the time to read and 2 finger my way through a post like this.....

I have read that parts are available through Pyramyd Air.
I have not had any failures to need any parts.
In my experience, most failures with PCP guns are o-rings. O-rings can be purchased from many locations.

There are a couple of things I'm waiting to hear from those that have Avengers, are the mags for these holding up better (spring wire) than the mags that came with the Nova Liberty, and do the better mags for the Gauntlet also fit the Avenger? Both of my Liberty mags had to have the spring wire glued into the hole or they would pop loose and not feed correctly, have had Zero issues with the Gauntlet mags feeding properly. If I sell my Discovery to a friend from work I'm still considering one of these for my collection.

Take a look at CARM magazines. Darco is a great guy and his magazines and single shot loaders are great products. You have my word they will out perform and out last the OEM magazines. Better design, easier loading, far superior springs and very well machined. I have bought multiple CARM's for both my Avengers and my FX Dreamline. They have been my first choice for awhile now and I really like the single loaders, a great deal easier than the drop in trays ( I have large hands and Fat Fingers! ) Very reasonably priced and ordering and shipping go quite smoothly. Give them a look, you won't regret it.

Do you know if the Mrod mags will work?  I found a couple .25 Mrod mags in a drawer yesterday and I have nothing that uses them.

    I believe the Rifle mags will work but the pistol mags will not.

MRod .25cal mags are thicker, I don't think they will insert. But they do look identical. And I don't think they make .25cal pistol mags. Only .22cal.

I finally found my Avenger post.
Not sure what all I've done to it since my last post so I update where I am now.
First and foremost are the mags..
We have a member here on the GTA with the screen name of Engineer. Troy happens to design and 3D print mags for several airguns and he's expanding his offerings more every day. Look him up if you are looking for hard to find or higher capacity mags. He loves a challenge. 
I never did like the factory mags... I guess I got spoiled on the CARM and Maple mags. Just so happens that Troy had already produced 12 round mags for the AV X that function just like CARM and Maple mags so I ordered 4 of them.
It turns out that 4 12 round mags left 3k in my gun and my reg is set to 2100. I like to have enough mags to cover a full fill shot count so I ordered 3 more. Those 3 arrived today.

A word of warning...
If you are going to load and shoot 7 12 round mags per fill with the AV Avenger you should probably stock up on pellets or invest in casting your own..
