.25 AV Avenger

Weirdness.  I just received an unexpected delivery of four tins of top quality .25 caliber pellets from SteveP!  I hope he meant to send them to me, cause I was not anticipating anything like this.  A very generous guy.  The weirdness is I don't own a .25 but I am thinking about an avenger in .25.   Hmmm.

That's what I thought!  My wife isn't due home from Texas until after the first of september.  If I can just get it delivered before then...

Ok, this day has been quite the journey.
Left out to get some breakfast.... that went well. Then we decided to go to Troy and see if we could find a laptop for the chrono.
Stopped at the pawnshop and they had 3. 2 at $175 and one at $400. Then we went to Walmart to see what they had.. The shelves were full of displays but they only had 1 in stock   
Back to the pawnshop. One was an HP 15. I offered $140 cash and brought it home. Then the fun started...
My laptop got wipe and reloaded with Linux and went to Betty Lou.
Her laptop got wiped and loaded with Windows 7 Premium and the ProChrono Digital software was installed and configured.
I got the new laptop. It got wiped and Linux Tricia loaded onto it.
All the while I was supervising 10 guys via the phone.

So, tomorrow morning we get to run the Avenger over the chrono and get some numbers on it.
Tonite I'm gonna sit in my recliner and dump a few beers down my neck.

The next best in that set appear to be the Beeman Kodiaks.... that's a sad state of affairs because those are vintage pellets that I can't find anywhere. When that tin is gone, they are gone... 

I'm pretty sure the Baracuda Match are the same exact pellets,at least they are in .22 cal.

 another thing ....today I was doing some off hand shooting with the Avenger .25 ,and at 35 to 50 yards shooting just over and inch in diameter metal spinners it was like I couldn't miss....

for me the Avenger is about as well balanced for standing off hand shooting as it gets    in my past I have done a lot of off hand shooting hunting , and grew up 1 mile from a game refuge on our property /ranch shooting ducks , and geese ,pheasant , quail  in  Willows California a flat rice farming area  loaded with every bird you could hunt in California at that time  ,and then some -plus deer fox and yotes ...

Finally got some time to get the chrono out but it turned out bitter sweet.
I think I need batteries in my chrono and my lights because I got some crazy numbers.
I shot 4 mags (32 shots) over it but it only recorded 28. It also mis-recorded a few shots as you can see.
I wanted to post it anyways for a base line for what I'm working with.
It's about 1:30 pm and it's too hot to go back out there. I'm going to get out there again in the cooler morning tomorrow.
This string is at 3900psi fill, reg set at 2900 and hammer spring out 1/2 turn from out of box setting.
You can see the last shot came off the reg.

I've got the ProChrono Digital with the usb link to the laptop. It's been sitting for quite awhile and I didn't change batteries. I use the Harbor Freight 27 led light pods and they have old batteries in them as well. I'll change all batteries and clean the sensors and lenses in the morning before I go at it again.
It's always been a good chrono for me.

I may have been shooting too fast for the reg to catch up as well. I'll slow that down as well tomorrow.

  yep ... prochrono has worked great for me .. i bought 2 led light strips off ebay zip tied to the light diffusers  that i use alligator clips hooked to one of my 12 volt jet ski batteries  ,and it works perfect ...

Bill that bipod came in , and just like you said its works great- thanks for your input on that 1 ,

I like the push button adjusters, rubber coated legs  , and feet at the end with no springs on the legs ... perfect match for the Avenger so now i have the same exact setup scope, bipod ,Avenger that shooter 721 Rick has , he is one of those guys that can get the full potential out of a gun with the precision/trick  shooting  that he does ...

Going through a major transformation at work and it's taking up most of my attention. Hopefully the waters will be calmer in a month or so. By then the weather should be a little more cooperative as well. So far, I have really enjoyed the Avenger, maybe more than any gun I own or have owned. It's a heck of a lot of gun for the price.

Well Hey Y'all.... long time no see.
Still going through the mess at work but I woke up early this morning and had a few minutes to visit with my Avenger.
I've been thinking about how I wanted to set this gun up and I've been watching other members and how they were setting theirs up, particularly Wayne. Thanks Wayne, for so freely sharing your info.
My goal is to get 4 8 round mags (32 shots) from a <> 4k fill.
BTW, I think I found my first issue with this gun.... the fill pressure gauge.
I have a few other PCP guns that have gauges. The gauge on my Vevor compressor matches those guns exactly, however, when the gauge on the compressor read 3500 psi, the gauge on the Avenger reads 4k. For now, I'll go by the gun's gauge and run the compressor to 3500 only. Next time out I'll watch both gauges on the gun. When the gun drops off the regulator, the gauges should match at that setting. That will tell the story.

Ok, now that I'm seated comfortably behind my desk at work enjoying a McMuffin and caramel mocha iced coffee, I'll finish telling of my experience this morning... providing I don't get interrupted with some trivial work related stuff.
I came very close to making a big mistake this morning....
This is my first experience with a regulated gun but, it's not my first time not reading owner's manuals. You see, I'm of the mindset that if you want more water, you turn the faucet on more (clockwise) and vice versa for less (counter clockwise).
My objective was to turn the regulator down to around 2100 psi. So, I shot the gun down well below the 2100 psi pressure on the reg and backed the adjustment screw out almost 1 full turn (gun came to me set at 2900 psi). I then backed the hammer spring out all the way until it stopped, or showed resistance. Then connected the gun to the compressor and began filling.
HOLD UP THERE BUCKAROO, why is that reg gauge pointing upwards of 3900 psi, well into the red? Then it hit me... I'm about as smart as the south end of a north bound duck.
I degased well down below the 2100 psi mark again and turned the reg adjuster back in about 2 full turns. I maybe dumber than dirt but I'm lucky as all git out. I filled the gun back up and BOOYA, the reg stopped right at 2100 and the gun filled to 4k on the gun gauge... 3600psi on the compressor gauge.
At that point, it was time to put all my poop in one sock and head into work.
Our weekend RV/ATV plan has been cancelled due to the flooding courtesy Sally. If I can escape the cracking of the whip by Betty Lou, I should have some time to do some testing this weekend.

Your lucky you didn't ruin the reg , suppose to degass all the way to decrease the reg setting hopefully you got away with it this time , I wonder if parts are available for the avenger yet, my .25 doesn't seem to be as accurate as many of the other owners are experiencing, when I push a pellet through it ,after the 1st inch past the TP it just slides the rest of the way with little resistance, thinking a new barrel might fix it.

I had degased well down below 1000psi. I was at least confident that I wasn't forcing the reg. My concern was that I put too much pressure in the reg. and affecting the internals of the valve and beyond. But yes, I think I dodged a bullet.
I noted the pressures on the reg and the fill tube this morning. I'll compare them this afternoon for any change.

emty air out of gun,

 turn reg adjustment screw clock wise tell it stops ,

then rotate screw counter clock wise 1/4 of a turn ,


fill gun to 4350 psi

to bring up reg pressure ,slowly turn reg adjustment screw counter clock wise while checking the reg pressure gauge till desired pressure is reached ..

Bill I thought i would put this up so people dont adjust the reg  wrong way ... its pretty easy to get this backwards , to be honest with you after reading your post I couldnt remember which way I had adjusted the reg since I only did it 1 time after I read the manual , and listen to Ted on you tube ...
