I got my new KRG grip panels today!!  Almost ready to start making this stock!!

Little update- the new extended breech is made, new breech knob is made, new barrel bushings are made. 

So what was the issue?  A combination of things!  Not completely straight and concentric breech and barrel bushings, for starters.  The frame extension piece, while IT is straight and concentric, it was made to such tight tolerances that the little bit of stick out of the trigger pins caused a bit of misalignment.  When all the issues are combined, there was no way this gun would have ever worked correctly if the issues weren't dealt with.  But no biggie- now the issues have been identified and are sorted out.  So soon-ish I'll have my parts back, and I can finish assembling this little guy.  Just wanted to give a little update...

New bolt knob is made (FINALLY using a PB bolt knob I picked up somewhere), new barrel bushings have been made.  Machinist is getting there.  Not much of an update, but I wanted to update anyway. 

On that note, I'm going to take a semi-short hiatus on this build.  Not sure when I'll pick this project up again, even when I get my parts back.  I really want to focus on another build I've started- my reverse tank Brod lower.  Once that's done though, I can come back to this.  The reverse tank lower should take TOO long to finish.  I have most of the parts already.

She's all back together!  Now I just need to get an LDC and get to sighting her in!



It still sticks a little, but I can live with it.  I do believe that it's the aluminium adapter.  The frame is new, everything's been gone over, the back half of the bolt has been trued up, and the front half is new...  I was told one of the pins is probably what's causing the misalignment.  I shaved the pin down (of COURSE it's the pin that secures the auto-safety dog-leg  ), but that wasn't it.  It's A LOT smoother than it was before though.  Everything looks good to go for adding an LDC- I threw one on (not the right caliber), and it looks even all the way around, which is good.  So cross fingers that she shoots straight! 

Anyhoo, I'm pretty much going to call this one done.  Once I get some groups and ranges, I'll post again.  May be a while though.

You ain't wrong!    I've got a "short" section of .357 barrel...  I'm thinking sometime in the future (after my reverse tank build is done) that I'm going to see about making a .357 "Disco" using a Powerhouse valve.  Not sure if it's possible, being that the tube would be so short.

What I HAVE REALLY been thinking about, is take a page from the 1400 play book and make the barrel and breech a single piece...  That way, I can use the "dispatch gun" I've already finished.  All I'd have to do is get a Cothran valve for a Disco, and a long enough barrel, and find someone who would be willing to do the machine work...

Same.  I won't be testing until I get an LDC though.  I'm going to just get a Ronin, because that's the one I want to run on the .357 build.  I'll just need to order another back plate.

Weeeelll... Change one billion 

I've been working the action of this bullpup over the past month...  It's still not as good as I'd like, and nowhere near as good as the original AF bullpup I had    I'll just use the frame extention as a pattern to make my own down the road.  I think the issue is concentricity with the frame extension.  Everything else is checking out fine.  So it HAS to be the extension.  I'll have a bullpup AF one of these days!  Again! 

I'm going to use the EscapeSS  frame for my .172 build.  Not as much barrel stick out that way.  More support for that heavy barrel...

I've also been longing for the compactness of a TalonP, so I grabbed my original .30 Condor frame.  Luckily, it's only a touch longer than a TalonP frame.  I've also been really wondering how a 12" .30 would do.  The barrel ended up being under 13" (more than 12" though), to better match the frame and end cap.  So this isn't a "TRUE" TalonP.  But it's close enough.  The key point is the OAL.  The best part?  The collapsible stock adjusts out far enough so that if I need/want to shoulder this "pistol", I can!!  Or I can take the stock off and run it as short as possible.  I'm really happy how that worked out.  I also re-sprayed it in Aluma-hyde 2 O.D. Green.  It's a nice paint so far.

Okay- now she's done-done! 

Replacement breech came in today (I couldn't find my original .30 breech for the life of me!!  ).  So I slapped the new breech in, and assembled the "new" TalonP.  Action is butter smooth again  OAL is exactly 24".  I'm not sure how that worked out.  The factory spec on a TalonP has OAL at 24.1".  My frame is a touch longer than a TalonP frame (I shortened a Condor frame), and I've added a LDC adapter end cap.  I'm not complaining- just confused.



I'm going to get a Ronin for it as soon as I can, so I can get to testing.  I just found out that I can add an extension to a Ronin to make it longer, so I'm thinking the Ronin might be my last LDC...  It'll work for all my bigger calibers, seeing as how .357 will be my largest caliber.  Anyhoo- I know I'm not going to get a lot of shots with this .30 TalonP.
 But efficiency isn't the point of this build. 

I'm hoping the standard Ronin will quiet this down enough (seemed to do fine on my old .25 version).  I'm also hoping the .30 will dump more energy on target, and *crossing fingers* will result in either no pass-through (unlikely, except at longer ranges), or at the very least, a "more safe" pass-through.  i.e. pass-through that doesn't travel far or retain much energy. 

I'm most excited to see how .30 does w/this short of a barrel.  In .25, the TalonP is easily a 40-50 fpe gun.  I want to see where the balance will be.  I'm hoping for between 50-60 fpe (more is okay of course  ), with good accuracy out to 50-60 yards.  That's all I need this gun to do.  For now.  Anyhoo, that's all for now.  I'll post again with shot count, accuracy at range and how it sounds with the Ronin.

It's been a while since I updated this.  So I finally got a Ronin, and I also got the extension for the Ronin...  Suffice it to say, it's not what I would consider "backyard quiet".  I'm going to have to send a few pellets over a chrony to see how fast these things are going, but it's for sure not quiet enough for my backyard.  BUT it is much more quiet than no LDC at all.  TBH, I'm a little disappointed.  BUT it IS a 12" barrel...  I'm not getting rid of the Ronin or anything.  I've still got other builds I can use this on.  Those are going to be lower power builds in .30 and .35, so hopefully the Ronin and extension will quiet those down fine...  We'll see.   

Oh- and I swapped out the grip for a Masterpiece Arms Enhanced Vertical Grip.  I absolutely LOVE this grip.

I've got a TT slap mod hammer in there, and I've also got one of TT's shims under the top hat to limit how much it opens.  Not saying it isn't quiet (compared to no LDC), but it's not quiet enough to be shooting from inside, out to the backyard.  Nor is it quiet enough if in the backyard shooting.  I tested it in an open field today, not near any structures so I could get an honest idea of how quiet (or not) it would be.  I'll have to put it on a chrony and see what the numbers look like.  I have the power wheel turned all the way down too...  I was really hoping to be able to shoot at the house, as it's convenient.  But that's not happening     Again- good thing I'm working on those lower powered .30 and .35 guns!

I get more noise with larger slugs it's a quirk of the Air Force design - The valve stays open releasing air as long as the slug is in the barrel at some pressures so slower slug means more air and noise.

It's fun seeing someone else messing around with the Air Force platform.

You know I should mention I'm getting up to 75FPE with a 12 inch .25 barrel only mod is a condor valve that was ported and polished by talon tunes.  Shooting 48 grain bbt slugs to get this kind of energy.  Easily 50-60fpe with 25 or 30 grain slugs.

Again- not saying it isn't MORE quiet than w/o a LDC (because it is FAR more quiet than THAT!), it's just not quiet enough to use for backyard pesting, and the Ronin w/extension isn't as quiet as I was hoping.  Of course, just like with PB's, I may not be seeing the best possible sound suppression due to the fact that this Ronin is for .357, and I'm shooting .30 through it.  So there's that.

I'm still curious as to how fast these pellets are going...

Yes, I opened the post hoping to see chrony numbers....  My guess is your slinging them 44's well over 700fps---just a WAG, I have ZERO Airforce experience to base it on.

Possibly.  I'll get chrony numbers as soon as I'm able- I need to find a place I can shoot this w/o the risk of someone raising an alarm

Pellet trap worked a treat!!  I've got to replace my water heater, so after that's done, I'll get some chrony numbers.  Sorry Mackeral5! 

Here's a pic of the completed gun again, as I swapped the grip.  The LDC is a .357 Ronin w/extension.  OAL in the pic is exactly 36".  The stock would make it longer of course.  Sorry for the bad pic.
