392 for Steroid help needed-accuracy/consistency

Couple of things here guys.
 1: you are getting pretty darn good accuracy out of your 392 especially with those pellets. So I would send the one that retains air. Let Tim know that in advance, he is more concerned about accuracy (barrel) being faulty. He can't fix it if you loose the "barrel Lottery".

 2: Take it easy on the PB conversation. While I am guilty of a bit of it myself at times, it is clearly against the rule on this AIRGUN forum. Posting pics and continued reference is a bit over the accepted line I think.

3: LOVE the Stinger! I have one myself. It handles all my guns well. Very adjustable, and STURDY. a couple of my Springers don't like to be held tight but that is not the Stingers fault.

Thanks, if you need to remove the PB photos please do, I do not think I can edit them. Sorry for that, I will be more careful onward. The PBs were part of my control group to insure it was not my vision problem at work here. I see multiple in the right eye when I---well---it is a mess. I was shooting all of those rifles because I know what I can do with them and what to expect from them for accuracy, I do not know what to expect from a 392. I think that you folks have helped me understand the typical accuracy potential of a 392 and that both of my rifles are within the acceptable range, Steroid mods or not.

Ramblings:

Yes, I do not think springer rifles are well suited to the Stinger, but everything else. I have owned several springers and it is just not my platform. I like the pump air rifles, CO2 and I badly want a PCP. Just not sure what I want in that regard.

I did, last night, put a bevel/chamfer into the Stoeger X20 chamber. This per several threads including on this forum. If the wind settles down I will run it some more today.

I also installed, as the targets showed yesterday, the 3X9 scope on the newer 392 with an Air Venturi scope mount. I do not think this is a permanent install, it seems to slip. I ordered the mount from Baker last night, that appears to be a more solid mount? I think I might should also order a second Mac1 mount, my wife may disown me .

I do not like the pinch mounted rear sights on the 392. I have read in threads that these can cause barrel separation? Is this real? I removed one of the sights on the older rifle, maybe I should remove the factory rear sight from the newer rifle as well, hmmm? I carefully use a Dremal cutoff wheel and score the clamp legs and I will hear a "tink" sound as the heard spring metal pops. It is not required to cut all the way through, just about half way. This leaves no marks on the barrel--if done careful.

I believe the stories of barrel separation being caused by the rear sights is usually on the old Sheridan 'Streaks.
Almost unheard of on the modern 392's.

Thanks Scott. I think I would like to leave the iron sight for now on the newer rifle. I removed the factory sight on the older gun but it also has a Williams peep instead. I like the ability to retain iron sights, just because I am old fashioned. The Williams sights seem suddenly in short supply (like everything else including toilet paper). I have to look about for another in due course if I decide to cut that rear sight off. Comforting to know it is not as big an issue with the 392 rifles breaking the solder joint.

Here is the newer new 392 with the 3X9X40 22LR scope on the Air Venturi mount. The mount seems to slip or at least it slipped once so I ordered the Baker unit as I said. I think this one won the contest so I am about to tear it down for packing up:



I will update the forum when I get the rifle back from Mac1 and report how it does. It will be a little while so be patient. Thanks again to all for your patience with my ramblings.

You can set a dowel against the sight and very carefully tap it off the grooved wedges, and reinstall it later if you feel so inclined.

I am inclined to disagree.
The Forum is a LOT more lenient than it used to be in that regard.
The rule was set in place by Great Grandpa Gene, LOOOONG before the current regime.

Didn't used to get warnings on sidebars like this one my friend. I never would have got this deep in the forum if the anti gun sentiment was this deep in the beginning.  if there was always somebody lurking to correct a guy for providing detail about firearms in such a small sense.  When you join the forum?

Also in case you didn't notice he posted the pictures of the rifles and corresponding groups to show that he can, indeed, shoot well.

That is an important factor in judging the potential of his 392's.

Gentleman, please, I never meant to cause a fuss. Please, I will refrain from PBs. I just showed those targets to demonstrate that I was probably not the weak link or at least the weakest link. But I understand, this is an air rifle and air gun forum. Plenty of nice web forums for the PBs. I appreciate the guidance and with so many bad things going on out there, let's be friends here please. If my air rifles shot like the "other" targets I would have not ever started this thread, as in what is good for a 392? I think I got it now and the discussion has been very helpful to me.

I will update when I hear from Mac1 when they get my rifle. I am shipping it out Monday or Tuesday.

It's a good rule.  We have gone off the deep end of firearms discussions at times, members have created threads in the hunting gate that had nothing to do with airguns.

In order to keep the focus on airguns, the rule was made.  The founders and moderators etc. as far as I know are all very much pro 2A.

But I am so wary these days and I apologise for that, my apologies for both James and Scott.

James your posts were all good, if I had kept my firearms related questions in PM's then we might never had this part of this discussion in the public forum.

And no doubt you are a fine marksman.
