I'm new to GTA and have been "read only" for the past couple months. Lots of interesting and helpful info here.

I'm also relatively new to AGs. Bought a Gamo Whisper about four months ago. After about 1,500 rounds, I concluded that was a mistake. For my needs, the Gamo is too powerful, too loud and not accurate.

After much reading, I bought an R7. Fedex delivered it this morning. Holy smokes. After about 100 rounds, I feel like an idiot for not buying the R7 in the first place. For reasons that escape me now, I picked the Gamo over the R7......

Oh well, better late than never. The R7 is an industrial work of art. Most importantly, it is stunningly accurate. On my 25yd backyard range, I can stack pellets in a way I never imagined was possible. It has minimal kick, and is also very very quiet.

The R7 simply makes the entire shooting experience more relaxing and enjoyable. Most here probably already know this, but until today I was clueless. What a great passtime.

I'll keep working on improving my accuracy with the Gamo. The challenge is sort of fun. But for 90% of my shooting needs, I'll grab the R7.

The temptation to modify is always there with me.....but I'm going to enjoy the R7 in bone stock form for a few thousand shots first.

Welcome to the GTA. I had a gamo big cat and I switched to a TX-200. Huge difference. Enjoy.

Welcome. I purchased an R7 about six weeks ago. It's my first air rifle. I love it. It's a joy to shoot.

You might want to modify it now with the cocking arm insert from JM so you avoid galling of the tube.

The R7 is very nice and definitely a joy to plink and target shoot with, especially at 25 yards, nothing beats it. I love mine and I can shoot it all day.

Look at the bright side, it's a good thing you got the Gamo first, now you appreciate just how awesome the quality and worksmanship of Weinrauch. By the way, I did the same thing so don't feel so bad.

I appreciate the welcomes. Also glad to see that other AGers have followed a similar route to the R7. The difference really is far more than I could have imagined.

On this cocking arm insert, where and how exactly does it go on the R7? Any tools or special AG knowledge required?

Welcome to the GTA, yes you gonna wanna do some research on the disassembly of this rifle, its pretty easy to tear it down but their are some little things you need to watch for like the small nut inside the trigger group that free floats after you remove the small screw in the back of the trigger group, yes the gun needs to disassembled to install and fit the cocking arm insert correctly and yes its very important to install this insert to protect the compression tube.

I have the "plain jane" sister...HW30s. Same rifle with Rekord trigger just without the checkered stock. Awesome shooters and I can shoot mine so accurately I made it into a "match rifle" of sorts with Walther match sights. Just a great small package!

Welcome to the GTA. You made a fine choice for your second air rifle. As you well know, Weihrauch made Beeman guns are really sweet to shoot, especially the docile R7/HW30. The Rekord trigger is the best trigger I've tried so far and I think is a big factor for these guns' accuracy. Please let us know how your shooting goes with your new acquisition. Enjoy it!

WELCOME and Congrats on the R7. It's really not "fair" to compare the 2 against one another.

Definately 2 different camps. No problems though....
Since you have it. You can tune your Gamo with a milder spring//seal kit, which will help on the noise, accuracy and shooting pleasure Along with the famous GRT trigger, keeping the screws tight, and stuffing or filling the buttstock, these changes will improve your Whisper. It won't be a R7, (the trigger is awesome),but will be something you'll enjoy. If you go to the Gamo & Spanish Gate, you'll see posts from folks who have done these mods themselves and are pleased with the changes.

Edit: I'd leave the R7 stock from the factory.

And the video on how and where these guns are made is fascinating.

I now understand why people get so interested and excited about 'groups'. Last night I was able to get 10 shots inside of an inch at 25 yards. That's a personal best by a wide margin.

EMrider... when you get tired of your whisper let me know... maybe i'll give you an offer you can't refuse...lol. I had a couple of them and had a ton of fun tuning them... and i have been itching to get another for that purpose. just cant justify getting a new one for "tuning, R&D"... let me know.
about the R7. best buy ever... had a .177, then got a .20, then another .177 (the first one was a modern one without the open sights... so when a used one with them came up i could not resist.)

Thanks, but I'm planning to make the Whisper a project gun and do some tinkering. With a new scope and very careful trigger control, it is reasonably accurate. Mine also has the nitro piston. I'll try one of the GRT triggers and if that does not make a difference, then I may get in touch with you.............

On the R7, do most folks shoot them stock, or get then tuned?

Right out of the box the gun is amazing. For now, my plan is to just shoot and enjoy the gun as is.

If you don't wanna void the warranty, leave it as is and enjoy it. Then you can work on it later.
