the trigger should make a great difference if set up right. as per tuning the r7... i shot  mine untuned for 2 years and it is a very smooth gun. i guess you could have it tuned, but i see no reason. if you want more speed then get a hw50... and if you want smoother, well, i cant think them being any smoother. maybe spend some time playing with the trigger... that is the only thing that made mine more enjoyable. Great little gun.

If you don't wanna void the warranty, leave it as is and enjoy it.  Then you can work on it later.

& with a limited lifetime warranty it'll be a while , but it's so good stock.

Give us an update on how the insert installation goes.

I haven't done mine although I have the insert. Even with all the reference links, I couldn't understand where & how to install it.

I haven't done mine although I have the insert. Even with all the reference links, I couldn't understand where & how to install it.

Yesterday I took the R7 apart to inspect the cocking lever and compression chamber, after putting 300 or so shots thru the gun.  All looks good.  No evidence of rubbing or any metal on metal contact.  In total, the gun has 500-700 shots.

If I do notice any rubbing, I'll install the insert, although I'm also unsure exactly where it goes.  

While apart, I did some fiddling with the trigger adjustments.  Geez, those adjustments are sensitive.  You can set the trigger to fire with extremely light pressure.  The stock settings seem to work best for me.

Also got a lesson yesterday in pellet trajectory and holdover.  My regular target distance is 15-20 yards.  Yesterday, I was shooting 35 and 50 yards.  A new experience for me with the lower powered R7.  Good fun.  After a few dozen shots, I was able to consistently hit a one inch square at both distances.  Chairgun trajectory plots were quite accurate.

A photo would be helpful. Maybe if I took the gun apart I'd see where it goes. Does the disassembly for installing the insert go as far a needing a spring compressor? There's a slot along the length of the insert. Does the slot fit over something like the cocking arm?
