So tomorrow instead of hunting, I’ll be working on my guns “O” rings :-((((

I’ll bring my silicone grease, O rings and tank ..... to see if I can get her up and running.

So far I’m happy the first gun has been holding an hour :-)

The wood gun I thought was holding air is not .... I have more work to do for sure. I will fill the gun the was holding air and shoot a bunch of shots to see if i can wear the poppet insert in ;- )

Took the gun that went POP yesterday back to the office and took her apart. .. Three possible things i found

1) The regulator smaller screw side was loose ... and this can't be as the "O" ring sits in a a recess facing the outside ... If it is not fully compressed it will leak !! IMHO if you take the gun apart, screw this section in first and tighten it down very snugly ... then screw in the regulator section with the white "O" ring till it just doesn't touch. .. be sure the first side you screwed in is secure

2) The other thing I found was my poppet stem had slipped down a tiny bit on the Delrin insert, so pressed it back into position and added a second c-clip in the poppet stem groove.

3) The tank was not screwed in tightly, so I tightened that also.

I put the gun back together and will see if she holds air.

The other gun that leaked over night still had a tiny bit of air in her, so I filled her back up and as the gun was hooked up to my tank yet shut off but the tank gauge working, I fired a series of about six shots .... noticing the pressure going down about 50 + psi per shot ..... after about eight or ten more shots, I noticed the gun was not quite using that much air, it had changed a bit and that may be a good sign.

The gun is at home with about 2800 psi in it, so when I get home we will see if she is sitting the same ;- )

When I got my Liberty the tank was lose and the poppet leaked. Fix them both and didn't leak for a very long time. The poppet is starting to leak again but I've already got a delron poppet for it from Duy plus I don't even have the stock valve in the rifle. I have one of Duy's DC valves with a peek poppet and it's holding very good. I was a pain to get it to stop leaking at first butI used very fine valve lapping paste to burnish it in and that did the trick. I also found that the surface that seals the bleed screw was very ruff so I used a 6mm flanged nut, screwed in the screw until there was only maybe .010 to .020 exposed out the bottom using my calibrated eye ball to measure, lol and using a figure 8 motion smoothed down the end of the screw so it would seal.

The gun that leaked —— leaked big time today .... filled her up and as I cocked to do some test shots, I heard leaking from the open breach, closed her up and air was pouring out the barrel

I will take her apart again and check the poppet.... it may be the poppet spring causing some issues as it is bent as heck !!

I will put in another c-clip in her also !

Will,

My only thought on the “pop” that maybe the valve wasn’t fully seated. They push in to get the set screw in the center of the “V”.

Sounds like the poppet is leaking on one. If burnishing doesn’t seal it, try making one with a smaller hole that you press the stem in. Yours might be leaking around the stem.

I agree with John. The valve proably wasn't seated all of the way. I hope when moved to seat all of the way it didn't nick a oring the seals the valve into the receiver.

Before leaving for work I checked the gun that went POP ... she is holding perfectly ... this gun is done. I will bring in the other gun to work tomorrow and work on that poppet !

My 177 parts gun just arrived. Gun looks complete and has about 1Kpsi in it. Sights, ss tray, spare probe O-rings, allen keys, and fill probe. Only one mag, but no issue there.

It came with a loose in the box barrel band. It is not the one for the Liberty, and probably is a Freedom one. If someone needs this barrel band, send me an IM.

Got home early and sighted in "POP" Four shots and she was sighted in. Gun seems to be snappier with the Delrin poppet as compared to the soft poppet ? Maybe it is just my imagination, don't know ?

I have the other gun ready to take to work and re-do poppet and poppet spring tomorrow ! Getting both these guns working will be great !

I'm really surprised that my Freedom has been holding up as long as it has after all the use that I've given it

I'm sure that eventually it'll start leaking at the poppet also.

Given the higher pressures seen on the freedom poppet, I would have expected to be hearing about more leaks than the Liberty. It seems like just the opposite.

Got to the office this am and took leaking liberty apart, the air tube was nice and tight and the small thread side of the regulator was in place tight also, nice and smooth around the edges with no pinched "O" ring .. so I think that is good.

Took the poppet out and installed another small c-clip in the groove and straightened out the poppet spring.. made sure the spring was well centered before and while I put it back together. The only thing I did not do is put plastic epoxy in the poppet area ... I wonder if that is something that needs to be done ?

When I get home today I will fill and see if she holds ... if not I will put in another poppet insert and add some epoxy for insurance. The leak from last time with this gun was the air coming out the barrel .. it was leaking pretty fast.

Went home to see if she held air .... very, very close but no cigar ! .. I can feel an ever so slight bit of air coming out of the barrel ... very, very slow but it is there.

I will take gun apart tomorrow, remove poppet insert and apply epoxy in the ID of the poppet and on the inside of the cup. If that doesn't work I'll put in my spare poppet.

I think the straightening out of the spring may have helped along with the addition of the second c-clip. I may put the poppet in and spin it in a drill against the poppet seat for about 3-5 seconds to see if that soothes things out so I can get a seal.
