So in front would be a pretty fountain with landscaping and in back would be a patio with a pool? A garage by the kitchen side like -H maybe? I had a house like that but the washer and dryer room was between the garage and kitchen which I didn't like and would have preferred it by the bedrooms.

For me I prefer detached garages but would put that off the kitchen side and I’ll have a mud room entrance off the kitchen.  I initially thought that the laundry would be in the mud room area but I do like what you say about a laundry in the bedroom wing.  Maybe even if it was just a laundry closet would be nice.  Don’t really need a whole room.  One could use a bathroom sink or tub for convenient access for stains or the like. 

As long as there is an enclosed walk space between the two I wouldn't mind but in bad weather I'd prefer not to have to walk in it to get from the garage to the house, especially with groceries ect. If I built my own place I'd have the shop next to the garage with a walkthrough so everything could be done under a roof including a pool in a glass roof enclosure but I don't have that kind of $ to blow so I deal with that I have being grateful it ain't worse like many have it.

Not much today, the PsA decided to take it's toll on my body starting yesterday. Being cooped up in the house during this cold weather didn't help either. It's been a while since the last major flare knocked me down for the day. I can feel them coming on, it's just how long and severe they are going to be. I managed to get the van ready to be worked on, the flare is from getting up and down while setting the jack stands up. So a day of bed rest was on the schedule today. Still have the zoo to tend to so that helped with the mobility a little bit. So tomorrow I will finish building a tool to get the fan belt off. I hate working on front wheel drives everything is crammed in and no room for standard tools.

Went to work.  Did my thing there.  Came home.  Hung a new light fixture outside by the back door.  Unboxed, sorted and stored more ammunition.  Broke down cardboard and packing material.  Picked up loose tools.  Replaced burned out patio string lights.  Ate dinner.  Hanging with my peeps currently and sipping hot herbal tea.

Sitting in the box on a foggy day.  A bunch of rangers are doing the PACK test here today.  It's a fitness test to certify that you are healthy enough to be a wildland fire fighter.  This is the first year in 19 years that I haven't taken the test.  I could take it and probably finish ahead of most of them but the quacks say my firefighting days are over.

Update, yesterday I drove from Southern Missouri to Midland TX,. Today I drove Midland TX to to Tucson AZ, tomorrow we plan on finishing the trip and getting home early. Our plan is to leave here at 4:30 AM.

  Thanks We arrived home at 9:55 AM this morning, after a smooth and pleasant journey back from the Springfield area. Hank stayed behind to keep an eye on the house sitter and our cat.
During our trip, my niece's husband Mike made a purchase in Springfield, a 2024 Ram 2500 4x4 Sport. He saved over $20,000 buying and registering it in MO I picked him up at the Airport and took him to the Dealer to get his new truck. We caravanned and back to California together. This trip marked part of their transition, as they have now designated Missouri as their primary residence.
The move is to be completed by June, although the exact timing remains flexible. This relocation is significant, especially since my niece's husband is a Riverside County Sheriff Deputy nearing retirement. They have chosen a spot near where my son resides, providing an ideal proximity to family and an escape from California.

 He chose the route home to visit a fellow Marine. His buddy bought lunch.

I followed Mike as he navigated through backroads of Texas and a more southern route. It was three hundred miles further and took us three days instead of how I usually drive it in two long days. Today from Tucson was only about six hours though. Yesterday we stopped in Tucson early, about 3:30 PM I think?
  He reserved rooms in advance for himself and us and told me he had our room costs covered, NICE!

Went to the dump, then serviced the solar system battery. It hardly took any water. I've had to put in as much as a gallon before. I check it once a month on the first. Then checked all of the tire pressures on the vehicles and 2 trailers.

I installed two spring lines on the floating dock.  This ain't the bay of Fundy but we do have a regular tide of two to three feet and when there is a storm it can be ten or twelve feet.  So the floating dock needs a certain amount of free travel to compensate.  The new gangplank is longer and set at a shallower angle than the one it replaces.  Now I have to engineer a hoist to lift the gangplank to the vertical for really high water events.  I have a boat trailer winch and there's a convenient pine tree so I don't have to build an anchor

Wrestled with a big old grumpy kitty trying to give him meds this morning, Lol. Talk about 19-ish pounds of fury... And it's not a fat cat

It's been dry as a popcorn fart around here. This summer if we get the monsoons it'll green right up.

My boss is an ambitious young man in his early thirties.  He's been the park manager here for about a year and a half but he has failed to impress anyone.  So far he has just fallen on his face repeatedly.  He means well but I don't think he's up to the job.  Recently a situation has arisen that I know will grow into a major issue if it isn't addressed.  As senior ranger it is my job to speak truth to power.  I broached this subject with him today and he indicated a total lack of interest in dealing with it.  I pointed out that it could be perceived as a public health problem and it could come back and bite us somewhere delicate.  He blew me off with the statement "We should do something about that." and the clear message that he wasn't going to.  I told him that I would "put my concerns in writing".  If you work for the bureaucracy you know that is a threat. 

This afternoon our maintenance mechanic griped to me that the manager had sent him off on a buying expedition.  Seems he was told to buy a bunch of stuff to address this problem exactly the way I told the manager we would have to.

I like feeling justified but not at the expense of aggravating the brass.
