Saturday I walked Our new property in North Georgia and met the well driller.  We settled on a location and his schedule is about three months out.  I found a fresh rub and two squirrel nests on the property.  There is also a creek surrounded by hardwoods and bamboo.  Drove 20 minutes to "town" for a smash burger and curly fries at tthe Boxcar Grill.

Do you have house plans yet?  When are you thinking that it will be ready to move in? 

I would like to have my home built or build it myself.  I have a floor plan that I think would be near perfect, imo.

Cut a 30' section of a 10 - 12" diameter dead fall tree into manageable size logs for the log splitter. I need to stack it for a few weeks to let it dry out a little from laying on the ground and the snow melting around it. I might just stack it and put a tarp over it and save it for next year.. I should have enough already split to finish out this season.

I just can't sit still very long..I went back out and loaded the yard trailer with those logs and carried them to the splittin' shed with the Kodiak and split up a few of the dryer ones. Rain tomorrow and their having the celebration for Killer so I won't get back to it until Tuesday.

We went to Church in Springfield Missouri today, they asked me to preach their morning service so, I did. I officiated my grand daughter's wedding there yesterday.

 In the winter they only have a morning service, we spent the afternoon with relatives.
 I reorganized my luggage and did some light housework in the Camping Trailer while my wife was in the house visiting still.

I don’t have a drawing but I can try to describe it.

Imagine looking down on the floor plan and think of an H. 

Down one side is the kitchen, dining room, living room

On the cross section imagine a family room that connects to the other side.

The other side of the H is the bedrooms and bathrooms.

There are more details that I have in mind but that will give you the general layout.

For me I prefer detached garages but would put that off the kitchen side and I’ll have a mud room entrance off the kitchen.  I initially thought that the laundry would be in the mud room area but I do like what you say about a laundry in the bedroom wing.  Maybe even if it was just a laundry closet would be nice.  Don’t really need a whole room.  One could use a bathroom sink or tub for convenient access for stains or the like.

When we built our house back in the 80s, I wanted to include an oversized garage, 3 bays wide and 2 bays deep.   My wife absolutely nixed that idea.   She had a strange belief that the garage and house should have some kind of proportion that fit into some sort of esthetic which I was not familiar with.   She got her way of course.    But if we ever build another house, I'm gonna have a giant garage/worshop with a lift and I don't care how proportioned it is.

I spent the morning chainsawing storm debris.  Loblolly Pine trees don't like ice storms.  Lots of BIG branches everywhere and quite a few entire crowns.  Our latest Ranger whom I call "Hurricane Hattie" is a wonder.  We found a water leak today after I spotted a suspicious puddle of water in the middle of the playground.  We dug it up and it turns out that she is right handy with PVC and glue.  She fixed the leak very competently but we had trouble getting the water back on because the shut off valve broke.
Got that fixed and I went back to collecting storm debris.  I filled the dump truck twice and called it a day.
I figured it was best to walk the dogs as soon as I got home from work.  Back past the fish ponds Flash treed a squirrel.  He is inclined to bark at birds but this was real nutter.  It was pretty intent on Flash so I stalked around until I had a good unimpeded shot at it's head from about 15 yards.  I had the Crosman 2200 loaded with 14.3gr Piranhas and even though I had a pretty sure shot I decided to pass.  I just don't feel blood thirsty tonight!

This morning there was a potential security related situation within our local school system... Won't go into detail, but it was eventually deemed a "non credible threat"... Currently still under investigation.

I've been trying to figure out how to word all of this. I have two children that were affected by the situation, I am thankful they were returned home safely and all the other children were also safe.

I got to spend the day home with the kids, which was very good. Figure it's best to end this on that.

Odd man at work today.  Came home early.  Had coffee at home with Mrs. P.  Worked on the laundry/bath.  It’s been a looong time since I’ve been able to work on it.  This project has taken waaay to long.  Took a couple boys to the skate park to ride bikes and scooters.  Had more coffee with Mrs. P while we watched them ride.  Stopped at the grocery store on the way home and picked up dinner fixin’s.  Home now and warming up while I surf the web.  Thinking on what I should do now…

Had a hard time sleeping.   Woke up at 03:30 and decided to go out and shovel.   We had about 3 inches of fluffy snow.  I cleared my 80+ year old neighbors driveway and my own.   That exercise in the clean, cold, quiet air felt pretty good.

Back to normal today after a day of recovery from Killer's celebration of life event. I may have celebrated a bit to much but the was just Killer's way.. all or nothing. I don't recover as well as I used to and hair of the dog was not an option. 
Then there was the added disappointment from the missing Buck Rail conversion kit part. Betty Lou helped alot by making a great chicken noodle casserole from some leftover chicken from the event. Good old comfort food always helps the recovery process.

Well, I really like your garage proportions, except that doors should also be wider and taller than the shoebox doors used in typical subdivision homes. I spec'ed our previous house to have what was a 2-car garage from outside appearances but one side was a tandem--twice as long in back. Kept the boat trailer in that back space.

As for proportions, if you can obtain a lot with suitable trees, you could mask the building's footprint by judicious treescaping. Or make the garage a separate building, also with treescaping to keep judgmental nosies from offering unwanted opinions on aesthetics.***

In this part of CO, nobody complains about outbuildings being larger than the house. Subdivisions (which are generally detested here) restrict owners to keeping the "primary structure" noticeably larger than any "secondary structure". But since there are few such subdivisions with such covenants, most properties do have larger outbuildings, whether the offending units are horse barns, hay barns, tractor storage buildings. And most of them are not the same color or materials as the main house, either (GASP).

*** The nosy opinion often either stated outright or implied was that we put too much value on cars by putting in TWO garage bays! As if parking cars on the streets lined up like a wall of metal and rubber was more "friendly." The irony was that we drove very, very few miles diring the years we lived there, preferring to walk or take the local bus instead of driving. As the nosies drove their cars to and from home multiple times a day, to places that were less than a 30-minute walk or a 7-minute bus ride away at most. *** OK, rant about hypocrites done now.
