Thank you Pat, thank you everybody.
I keep alert and Watch Duty app is giving live updates to all the fires in the area. As of early this afternoon, another fire popped up a few miles from our house. By 3:05p.m. they said the flames stopped the forward movement and the water dropping planes were released to go to other hot spots. Big sigh of relief!!!
At 6:12 p.m. flames started flaring up again and a water tender and an additional hand crew were requested. At 19:54 an additional 5 engines and 2 hand crews were requested.
Three helicopters are requested to be up at 07:00 tomorrow morning. Wind is picking up again.
It's gonna be a long, sleepless night but with God's help we will get through it. Good night folks, see you in the morning.

P.S. Wishing PasadenaMike good luck, he had to evacuate yesterday (I believe). When I texted him today he was at a hotel with his family.

Last I heard was 10 dead and whole neighborhoods gone with people rescuing their livestock.

Meanwhile no shut in for days due to snow here so relieved.

Yesterday I was going to run the zturn and blow leaves so some grass might have a chance to grow this year. I hit the key and cranked it but no start. Out of gas. I decided just to leave it for another day.
It crossed my mind today so I thought I would go out and put gas in it. Even though it's raining, the mower is under a roof.
I put a couple gallons in it and noticed I left the dang key on since yesterday.

So I went and got the jump box and hooked it up. Just my luck, the jump box needed charged too.
So now I have the jump box charging and the charger on the zturn. Maybe I wasn't supposed to fool with the mower today... where's my recliner?

As a Southern California resident for many years I sympathize with y'all who are in danger. I hope that y'all escape this without injury or loss. I'll refrain from expressing any more opinion than that.

I went to work today. It's overcast and windy so I'm glad I'm not out on the river for once. The ranger station is boring but it's also warm.

We got our power back on finally at 3:40 PM

So it was off from Wednesday 3:40 AM till 3:40 PM Friday. So 60 hours, the wind was bad for 10 hours before they shut off the power and there was virtually no wind for the last 40 hours of the shut off. From what I have seen the Federal Gov "National Weather Service" was the only weather service that was wrong on the wind forecast for Thursday and Friday here. ALL of the non-gov weather sites had accurate low wind forecasts.

Oh well, it's over for now...

8 Minutes after the power came back on our oldest daughter, her oldest daughter, her youngest son and two of our great grandsons showed up from Idaho. Since we had no power they had made plans to stay elsewhere tonight. So, we had a good visit and now things are all back to normal. I am going to go take an over due shower, now that we have running water again!

Although I have only been writing about "our little inconvenience", I am thinking about and praying for those that "lost it all". It is so sad there are many that just lost everything they owned.
Mel Gibson's place was among those leveled and he said it was hard to describe but there was part that felt good, like a purging, but then there is also the feeling of extreme loss too. Thinking about specific item's and thinking &^*% that's gone!
I am sure he'll have some hard moments even with his mitigating wealth that he didn't lose.

There are certainly a lot of rich that lost there homes in those areas, and a "some regular folks" that were grandfathered in those neighborhoods will have a harder time recovering.

I need to get my 6500 and 4000 generators tuned up before we need them again. I had to fiddle with the 6500 to keep it at 60 hertz. My 4000 seemed to not flow gas though the fuel filter even though the filer is clean, probably a petcock issue. I just set it aside to look at later since the Honda 6500 was doing the job.

SNOW REMOVAL!

So my driveway is about 300 yards long, shale gravel... I swept the snow off and raked/chunked up the ice. We then headed to the Amish market for meat and some groceries. When we came back, our driveway was clear. My old neighbors always laughed at my choice of snow removal equipment. Of course, after one sunny day, my driveway would be clear while neighbors were slipping and sliding up icy furrows (if they could even make it out once everything froze). For these central VA snows, I like my push broom and rake; they're perfect.

Side note: clearing the driveway was my workout for the day, probably the next 3 or 4 days. I'm exhausted.

We received about 4 inches of fluffy snow. Not enough snow to fire up the snowblower so I shoveled my 200' driveway and then headed over to help my neighbor clear hers. She's in her 80s and still gets out there clearing her driveway after every storm. No shoveling in sandals and shorts today. I was fully dressed and wearing socks and shoes! Gettin' old. Time to do some shootin' now.

Went to visit Mom with the family. She loves seeing the grandkids whenever possible. It's a few hours drive one way, which isn't a huge issue but we don't visit as often as she likes (which would be every weekend, Lol). A while back a brother of mine had passed, which has really brought her spirits down. We (that brother and I) weren't exactly close, there's an age gap plus we haven't spoken in 25 years or so... Not that we had issues, just lived our own lives. Anyways, I feel horrible for Mom, I know she's been grieving for a while now and we try to pick her spirits up whenever possible. Honestly, I'm not great when it comes to compassion or otherwise just being sensitive, but luckily Misses R is and then some. Who am I kidding, I can be a grouch... It's all about the kids. Watching Mom watching her grandkids playing seemed to make her day, which made my day.

The last two days I've been driving boats in what amounts to really bad weather for this part of the country. Today I took boats with one or two hardy fools aboard out to see manatee. The temperature hovered just above freezing all day but with the windchill it was down right brisk! I have frostbite in my left hand and even with good gloves it was still painful. But the river was beautiful today! The 69 degree water is much warmer than the saturated air. I drove three tours in a fairyland of mist boiling up from the river. I counted over forty manatee on one tour. With the ambient temperature this cold the gators are staying hidden. Rocky (12') was hanging out in his favorite spot adjacent to vulture island. With just a few people on each boat I could maneuver the boat and position the passengers directly above Rocky as he lay in ambush position on the bottom of the channel, and then invite them to look straight down.
