It's bad enough for me to consider a different job at this point. Driving is getting to be too much extra hassle most days.

I don't see how you drivers do it without going post traumatic daily. I just couldn't do it. There were always idjits on the roads but not near as bad as now. Just driving a car is dangerous already let alone a big rig hauling explodies. Around a month ago I saw a huge semi wheel sitting in the busy high speed road just below a hill top in the oncoming lane then once over the hill I saw a rig like Brett drives fixing to hit the wheel so I motioned for him to break as it was all I could do in traffic but he didn't have time to get that thing stopped. I hope no one was in my lane where he could swerve to avoid it. Made me glad I don't drive anything big.

Merry Christmas to all. Spent the day on the cape, plenty of bait but no fish. The wind had the water stirred up. Plenty of sea birds to watch, a lot of juvenile birds in the flocks. Traffic was zero which was nice for a change. Just a quiet, peaceful day.

 I took an airgun break to get a load of firewood, when I stopped in at the shop I saw convoy fly from the silo over to the shop roof, I knew what he was after  It's a Christmas Miracle, I had some fresh corn I shucked off the cob for his Holiday dining pleasure

I spent my Christmas serving the good people of Florida.  I put the flags up, pulled trash, cleaned restrooms, answered questions, gave directions, told stories, drove boats, dodged manatee, ate lunch, ran errands, closed the outparcel parks (Cherokee sink and Emerald sink), cleaned more restrooms, closed down the waterfront, shut down the ranger station, locked it all up, and took the flags down.

Gotta be there at zero dark thirty in the a.m. tomorrow.

Still beats working for a living.

Yes it was the perfect Christmas for me despite all the garbage I have been through the last few months. This is the most fishing I have done all year. Didn't even get the boat in the water. It was either weather or touron traffic that kept me from the coast this year. Waiting on the water to cool down some more to get oysters, I will have to go to Carabelle to get them, Apalachicola bay is still shut down. Trying to get in as much fishing now. Fixing the van is going to take up some of that time. I need the cooler weather to work on the vehicle. Then get the truck fixed it's minor, just need a wiper motor in it and washer fluid pump.

I fish from a pier, beach or boat. I do not surf fish. A guy I knew who was a very good fisherman(had won tournament $) got poked under the arm with fins while holding a snapper and I don't know if it got infected but it really jacked him up for awhile. I also had a shark bump my leg in the shallows so no more of that for me. If that would make you happy doing it though then I hope you get to do it soon and congrats on the tasty door package.

I wasted half the day with tech support trying to get my tv dvr reconnected to the internet and it never ceases to amaze me how horrible and inefficient service can be. Thankfully I got it running again all on my own.

The sharks are very plentiful in the summer here. Shark fishing was a big deal when first I moved here but all the new rules and licenses involved with them not many people do it any more. I just find them to be a pain when fishing on the cape and call it quits when it's one right after another. You don't swim in the water in the summer on the cape either, There a some big ones come through looking for dinner. I've had my fair share run between my legs as well so I keep to the edge of the water especially when the mullet and shrimp are running.  As for surf fishing, this area doesn't have the big pounding waves like the east coast does. When it gets rough here everything runs for cover. A north wind or calm day is the best time for the cape. Winter is the best time for the cape, black drum, redfish, silver trout, and whitting is what I am after this time of the year. I in the summer I fish the bays for spotted trout, red fish, flounder, sail cat, and croaker.

St. Joe bay is notorious for Blacktips and Bonnet Heads.  Stingray too!  In the summertime the sharks are as thick as the scallopers!  I avoid both.  Good Luck Kris.  I'd much rather be there than here and here ain't that bad!

One of my favorite fishing stories is when I was "Surf Fishing" at Ft. Meyers Beach and caught a 3'-4' shovel nosed shark.
 When I got it to shore a small crowd of gathered around.
 A guy asked "Now what you gonna do?"
Reaching for my Leatherman, I said "I am gonna get this hook out of his mouth" and stood on it's head, removed the hook, and then turn him back into the waves and let it go.

A young couple in the group, in about their mid 20's.. the lady said "I can't believe you put that shark right where we are swimming!"
 I turned to at her with my pole in my hand, and in all seriousness said  "Where do you think I caught it?"

It took a couple seconds but then the light-bulb clicked on (Uhm-Hmm Missy).... The look on her face was priceless, she turned to her man and said "I am never swimming in the ocean again!"

Yep, tourons are total geniuses at times, yeah right. I had one the other day that inquired what I was slurping out of the sand. I educated the nut job and informed her that the little black sprinkles lined up on the beach was it's poo poo and that's how I find them. She was standing in the thick of it. The expression on her and husband's face was priceless. What's really funny is when a ghost crab decides to move in on a beach towel, a blood curdling scream, batman and flash all in one run. Beach worms love the idiots that sit in the surf line. Florida beaches are full of all kinds of creepy crawlies.

Nick is home from his job for the holidays until Jan 5th and his plan is to start closing the barn in with the tin siding panels. The barn is 40' x 60' with both ends and a 12' section on the back side open. After pouring a 4" thick concrete floor he framed in all the openings an will put a 12' roll up door in the front end along with a man door.
Today he plans to start hanging metal. I told him I would come hang out and lend a hand. With my building experience I typically offer easier and better ways of doing things. Nick is young but listens to reason very well unlike most young men his age. I also have just about any tools the may be needed to make the job easier including all types of pneumatic tools.
We'll also have a cooler of refreshments  and some airguns for break time entertainment.

Is near where I was in the shallows by a pier in nipples FL I mean naples when I felt a hefty bump against my thigh. That's when I deassed the premises forthwith being grateful that it only decided to check me out with a bump instead of a bite!

Got a foot bath ready, so sitting in the throne room, my foot in the plastic tub, and I decided to stand up to reach for something.
 Not a good move. Both feet went out from under me, hit and broke the TP hanger on the way down,.. hit the side of the toilet under my right arm, under the ribs.
 I think I'm only bruised, I can still move, wind knocked out of me.
  Cleaned everything up, repaired the hanger.  Sore.
 Went out to start the car. Cold....car won't start.
 Called my garage.   They came and started it, said I need to replace the old battery.
  Followed them down and got the battery replaced.     HOLY SMOKES!
  Batteries are now expensive!   

I shoulda stayed in bed...

I haven't bought a battery in a long time, but used to get them from a dept. store for about $50 with trading in the core...
