I had planned on cutting grass today but I haven't felt very well the last couple of days so I'm staying indoors today.

This Timber rattler was a fat one. I didn't skin this one so I don't know what it had eaten. I ran over it with my truck on the dirt road and messed the skin up so I didn't bother with it. The birds got  good meal.

This one crawled out from under the deck of my zturn when I fired it up. He took a load of rat shot to the face at very close range.

Yeah, I really dislike snakes. 

I know there is one out there this year because I saw a large shedded skin behind the shop a few days ago. I need to get it before Boss does. I think she's too old to take a hit now.

Thankfully I don't see many poisonous snakes around here, never seen a rattlesnake around here but a few miles away they are killed regularly.

Bathed up a couple of dogs yesterday and going to do a couple more today.

Chopped back part of the yard yesterday, that is the easy part. Now to clean it all up, that's the hard part. I have to pace myself when doing that or I will have a mountain of cut brush to clean up. The rain needs to stop, 6 inches in the last 4 days has turned the yard into a swamp and bring out the mosquitoes again.

I have never killed a non-venomous snake; I relocated one rattlesnake (because someone else "insisted").   

I think since 1987 I have killed about 10 rattlesnakes most of those have been since I moved out of town in 1997.
 I never skinned any until about 2009. Since then, I have skinned 5 counting this one. If we didn't have so many gopher and ground squirrel holes that it could escape into, I would have drug it into the open with a rake so I could have had a clear headshot. The number one objective was to make sure to kill it since it was inside our yard when Hank found it. It was in his favorite pee spot and that is what he was doing when it first rattled at him.

I used to be the same so I understand but, living here we'd be overrun with rodents if the snakes were not doing their job helping me to eliminate them. Fortunately with the snakes we do have around it is very easy to tell the non-venomous from the venomous snakes. If I had to put it in numbers I would say we probably see 4-5 snakes a year on average^? and most are non-venomous.

Let me just say that I take back all the supportive stuff I've posted in the past about USPS. 
I have an atv battery that has bounced back and fourth between 2 states twice. Both times it was within 40 miles of our house and both times they said it was expected to be delivered that day.
Our post office in town had a broken pipe that flooded the basement 3 or 4 months ago. They put a sign on the door that it would be closed for repairs and directed patrons to the next town for postal business. That exact sign is still on the door and there has been no sign of any progress.

I've got to say, USPS is building a new PO in Ash Fork FINALLY!!! They just plain ran out of space for the mail boxes and as the usps doesn't deliver mail to homes or businesses around here there's been a lot of people that have to go to the next towns to get PO boxes. Our neighbor has to drive 20 miles to selegman to get their mail. Another friend has to drive to pauldon which is between 35 and 40 miles to get theirs. That's what comes from living in the middle of nowhere.😂

It was a little cooler today, it JUST hit 100°F!

 When the temp had dropped to about 95°F after 6:00 PM I went out and mowed until dark. I feel beat up now. It was very dusty, I showered immediately upon coming in afterwards. That helped some but wasn't lasting relief.


 My grandson who lives in Idaho with his wife Hanna and kids came down a couple of days ago because his wife's dad was in the hospital with multi-organ failure, He passed away last night. I think he was 49^? years old, he had just bought a house in Hemet 3 months ago and then got sick and then his heath went down hill fast. We never know what tomorrow may bring, posted is a recent pic of him, looks healthy. Hanna is their only child, apparently he left his X wife in charge of his estate? She already said he told her current husband he can have his pickup, It sounds fishy to me. It may be legit but, I know death always bring out the Vultures. I know the material things aren't what is really important but his daughter who was a daddy 's girl deserves his valuables more than his x wife IMHO.

He didn't have a notarized Will so I guess probate will figure it out! We never know what tomorrow may bring, this is a recent pic of him.

She tried to pay him and he told her the payment was to get a cat. If you have snakes, you have rodents. The cat will eliminate the rodents and the snakes will leave. It worked. We have not seen any since then. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cat dander, 😂. But I am allergic to rattler bites too! 😂

The new atv battery actually shows "out for delivery" this morning. We'll see.

Battery arrived and is installed. Both wheelers are up and running. I got the trail cleaned out and the barn acre does need mowed. I came back up the trail to get the mower and it has a flat on the front. This is the opposite side of the one I had fixed last week. I'm sure it's a split valve stem like the other. After breakfast I'll pull it off and take it to Pete's to have it fixed.
It just never ends.
