I've never bought a brand new vehicle in my life and don't plan to.

Have twice Ford and Toyota and both had numerous issues that needed carrying back to the dealer over 10 times. That's NOT why you buy a new car to waste a ton of time on trips to the dealer for fixes. Ridiculous!

The new stuff has to much electronics to go wrong on them and I don't want to plug into a computer to fix it either. Another words I don't need the darn thing telling me how to drive.

Amen! When my car does what I tell it to the thing is fun to drive but when it's being a brat refusing to do what I tell it I'm ready to shoot it. Only reason I don't is because I can't afford it. It's a very pretty car but as with a pretty woman if she's a beyoch half the time you can't stand to be with her regardless of her looks. I keep the code reader in the car since it saves a lot of time and money getting the dealer to tell me what's wrong with it but I'd much rather have a older sports car with only fuel injection that's computerized.

Well, I got up and grabbed a shower and coffee. Then I headed into our bar room to do some tweaking on the decor. It's funny how small a space gets with 2 large dogs laying in the middle of it.   
We skipped breakfast so Betty Lou is making pizza. I have the NASCAR race recorded so we'll probably turn it on in the bar and have some pizza and beers. I spent many hours , and money, sitting on bar stools watching sports. It's great, and cheap, to have a place right here at home to do it.... without the DUI that it may result in...  been there, done that, an experience I can live without. 
Oh and btw... we are kinda used to the aholes that hang out in this bar.

I’ve bought two new vehicles that made me return to the dealership many times.

First was a Jeep Wrangler, which threw some get-it-fixed-immediately problems, such as the manual tranny loudly banging as it slipped out of gear, at only 3,600 miles. I’ve driven sticks for a very long time and never had any troubles with them. There were many other defects. After about 5 years, the straw that broke the camel’s back fell. I got it fixed (still under drivetrain warranty) and decided to get rid of the thing before a major repair was on my dime.

Second was a Nissan Frontier, which I bought as an early adopter of a major design change. I think at some point it was neck and neck in number of problems, but they were not showstoppers, and more importantly they tapered off. I still own and happily drive this 2005 truck. Not too big, not too small, does what I need, reliable. Also important, I can do basic maintenance on it myself. And it is a stick shift, which they stopped offering!!!!

Only ever owned one “new” car.  Drove it for thirteen years without ever having any work done. Sold it when It started getting old.  Replaced it with an even older truck which is still running strong and has never needed any service.

I look forward to the day I don’t have to drive or own an automobile anymore.  I HATE automobiles.

So far today I have pencilled a big splash page for my perpetual comic book project.

Currently we have 6 vehicles in the driveway.  4 of them are Toyota products.  Out of the 6, 2 were purchased new (both Toyota) and 4 are used.  The BMW engine in the Mini (my sons) has something  going on and I will expect the Chevy Colorado (also my sons) to break at any moment just because it’s a Chevy.  I’m pretty sure it can’t last as long as the 2000 Tacoma has lasted so far (345,000). 

Dodge (owned 2) have been the worst products I have ever had experience with.  Neither made it to 100,000.  Ford was the next worst.  The one Chevy pickup I had (new) ran good just all of the things that could be turned, twisted, slid or rolled didn’t last.  I had enough and sold it off.  I figured if the controls aren’t reliable than the rest of it probably isn’t. 

I’m not a mechanic and I never aspired to be.  My time is valuable and I don’t want to spend it wrenching on vehicles to keep them operational.

First day back at work after being off this past week.  It was a crazy day!  So glad I can say it’s over and I’m home now enjoying my people and castle.

I started buying used Hondas and Toyotas.  I noticed I had more time with family and less time flatbacking under a car.  The 2018 HRV's most expensive maintenance was a set of tires at $500ish...Gas, Oil changes and one set of brake pads.  Getting close to time to cycle the Trans fluid.  Had a similar experience with a 2012 Civic that I sold with over 300+ miles on it,  I've owned Chevy, Ford, Jeep, VW, Nissan and Hyundai/Kia.  None of them made it past 150,000 miles before dying or being sold to "stop the bleeding..."YMMV

We had a 1985 Chevy Van that we bought used with 70,000 miles on it it had 320,000 miles on it when it was totaled out when my daughter-in-law was hit by a car that was doing about 70mph in a 35mph zone.
 I did have the transmission rebuilt once when it had started slipping, but that was the only repair it ever needed, I did all the maintenance myself. It was running strong to the end, and only using a quart of oil between oil changes too. I did always change the oil at or before 5,000 miles. That van was a great vehicle for my family and we used it to pick up people for Church that needed a ride every week too. I think that was at least part of   the reason it was so dependable.

 My son worked as a delivery driver when he was in his early 20's and drove a GMC S15 that I bought and drove for a little over a year before I sold it. It had 332,000 miles on it when I sold it. It was well maintained and I really don't know if any major repairs were done to it or not, I just put about 7,000 miles on it. The clutch went out about 2 months after I sold it and the guy that bought it didn't get it fixed, he just abandoned it. Here is a pic of it when I owned it.

 GM does make some good cars.

My '06 Titan has 189k on it and my '03 GMC has 340k and both run and drive great (knock on wood). My '11 Nitro has 120k and is DRT.  Top end is blown out with bad heads. It sits in the driveway taking on the role of atv tire storage.

We haven't ridden the ATVs in more than a month so when I saw the mail jeep drop the mail out in the box I pulled the Rancher out of it's garage and rode out the driveway to collect it. I knew my vaping product were delivered. Then I rode on down to the barn and checked on the dogs that Nick and Jesse have in pens Then I decided to ride back on the trail I made through the woods last year and come in the back gate. All the pine needles we cleaned out of the yard and put on the trail did their job keeping the trail clear. Virtually nothing grew up in the trail and all the low wet spots are filled in and dry.

I love sports cars as they're the adrenaline kick to drive and hear with a sweet sounding engine. Sure beats a lot of walking to other towns. I could get a horse but it would take way longer to get where I need then there would also be the parking issue.

Amen! I just do what I know to do because I don't have the $ to give mechanics to work on it all the time. I inspected the brake pads then got under the car and changed the power steering fluid and coolant after changing the oil & filter then finally the cabin filter. Not my idea of fun at all especially in the hot garage despite the big shop fan running but the $ I save doing things myself adds up at the end of the year and keeps mechanics from tearing anything up.

Shoot just the $ I save monthly mowing my yard and mother's yard twice a week is helpful. When my grandfather lived at my place before he passed and my inheriting it he was paying $400 a month for them to only mow twice a month and they like mechanics were usually tearing things up too driving into water spigots and corner trim rutting up the yard turning too fast ect. I think he was paying the pool company around $250 a month to clean it every 2wks and $800 to take the cover off and clean it at the beginning of summer which I do all that myself now.

I enjoy none of it but I'm saving a lot of $ that I need elsewhere.

It's HOT and MISERABLE out.
After a milk and bread run to the store I remembered I had a couple security cameras not working. Often times pesky critters will chew a wire or the wind will wear the wire if it's touching anything. Of the 3 not working I was able to run new wire and get 2 of them working. The last one will have to wait until I can get back out in the early morning. I began to get a headache and I cannot afford to boil any brain cells... I only have 2 left and the weekend is coming.

The '03 GMC Sierra has been sitting inside the fence for several months. I put the booster box on it and it fired right up. I took a ride down the road to the Harbin Ag Center and back and parked it outside the fence gate. We need to drive it more often. It runs great.
It cleans up pretty good too.

I pick up Hank's landmines and raked up pine needles in my backyard, then I mowed about 1/3 of the 5 acres today. There are weeds still growing despite having no recent rains. Amazon delivery is still not here, so I showered, and am eating a late lunch now.

Got back From Flagstaff just before the rain started 😁. What a total PITA at the MVD! I haven't wrote that much in almost 10 years and I only got 3 vehicles transferred in to the trust. While the poor lady that was helping me a couple walked up to the next window with the same thing except they didn't have the original trust papers. I ran into that problem when I first tried to take care of it.

Prevented my direct supervisor from getting FUBARed between a citizen complainer (attorney) and our department director.  Continued to mentor and develop three young Engineers and spent the rest of the 8 hours finding creative ways to spend your hard earned tax revenue...lol.  Just another normal day as a civil servant

I hated driving anywhere! I always rode a MC if I could. 500k miles in my life time not counting off road riding.
