Even 6 years after the hurricane a lot of things have still not recovered well including the insects. The beekeepers in this area are just now starting to get back to normal for production. They still have to deal with the mites and beetles in the nucs. The new nucs that disperse the mite dust are not cheap. This year the tupelo will have a decent bloom with all the flooding. Hopefully the beekeepers will have a good harvest for the next few weeks. I had more honey bees around the citrus this year and had a pretty good set. That reminds me, we just had a truck load of bees in hives delivered to the orchard yesterday was nice and sunny, they were happy bees from FL, this am it is 34f LOL I bet they are freezing their Bee hinds off

I was trimming a shrub with my brand new 24" battery hedge trimmer and I fell off the ladder. I was on the 3rd step and the ground wasn't level but having worked off of ladders for many years I thought I would be alright. Wrong.A felt it starting to tip and it seemed to happen in slow motion, so I jumped off. My feet hit first, but I wasn't upright and fell on my tailbone and then my head hit. I didn't brace myself well because like an idiot I tried to keep the trimmer from getting damaged. Man am I sore all over but it could have been much worse. Those blades are shape. This yard is gonna kill me.
I see you tried to save it from damage, were you successful? If so, good save! You're right you could have ended up with a body part broken so just being sore is pretty good.
Most people don't get excited about wasps but I love them!
Quote from: Blowpipe Sam on April 24, 2024, 10:04:14 PMMost people don't get excited about wasps but I love them!Wait until you blow a tendon running backward down a hill while spraying them off you and almost falling into your running mower deck where you feel the top half of the tendon slither up to your to your knee and the bottom half slither down to your ankle where your leg feels like it's on fire and you have to sit in the house useless for a month doing absolutely nothing which drove me nuts then you'll know why some people wage jihad on those bastages any chance they get. I know they serve a purpose but the danger makes me want their #'s in check on my property instead of letting them build up a high population because it only takes a few of them to ruin you. I know of a woman who died instantly by one wasp sting to the neck artery when she approached shore on a FL boat and a tree wasp nest overhead attacked. Bees I'm fine with long as they're not killers.
Changed the oil and lubed up the snowblower to put away until next winter. Dragged out the lawn mower, changed the oil, filled up the gas tank, pulled the ripcord once to prime it, one more pull and it fired right up. That Honda engine is about 30 years old and still has the original spark plug although it is burning a little oil on startup. Honda makes some mighty good engines

Same one or two pull experience for many years!
Spent most of the day dealing with cervical vertigo, just the joys of a past broken neck, mixed in with old age and arthritis. It's been a while since that has occurred. I just never know when or where a arthritic flare is going to kick in. PsA is so unpredictable. Anyway, did manage to get some yard work done without ending up in the hospital. My second order of pest predators came in and they were turned loose in the garden this evening. Fed the turtle and the fish in the pond. I enjoy watching the warmouth come up for the worms. I have one that is an absolute pig. That's okay, my yard is full of worms to keep the fish happy. The turtle is a yellow belly slider that I pickup out of the middle of the road before it became a road pizza. Last year come to find out it was a girl and she had a boy friend for a few weeks. Now I have a couple of the little ones in the pond as well. She eats the fish pellets I toss in. I have only see Godzuki(bullfrog) few times in the last month or so. It's about time for him to start rattling the pond for the girls. The lightning bugs have started coming out at night, in couple weeks the whole yard will be lit up with them. Robert, I can't believe you are having snow right now, that is some weird weather for sure.
It was just a few flakes then just normal rain. Wind chill did drop into the high 30s. Wife bought a bunch of flowers and had placed the pots in the garden. There we were, grabbing all of the potted plants in the rain carrying them to the garage. Of course right after we got everything in the garage it stopped raining.😡😡 A couple of the pots were 80+ pounds.☹️
