I got my first mowing done for this year, yesterday. I wasn’t planning on doing it yet, but it needed it.

We took the dogs out for some exercise around the yard late yesterday and I was happy to see large patches or wild grass filling in some of the area we cleared in the back. I'll actually be doing some mowing back there this year. The key will be to keep a designated trail to the rear fence gate leading to the woods trail and stay off of the new grass areas. Let that stuff get a good hold.

Huckleberry liberated from the invasives. Places cleaned out for the fruit trees and managed to get one in the ground. The other trees that I planted weeks ago are doing great, all are starting to bud out. Get some garden soil mixed up for the summer veggies.

I hit a root while backing my truck up today and punched a hole in the sidewall of the tire.  Got out my secret weapon.  The jack from a 68 International station wagon.  With that and a little help from my 12 volt impact driver and I was back on the road in fifteen minutes.  I drove four river boat tours today, wrangled touridiots tourist, emptied garbage cans, mopped floors, mentored a crew of impressionable young folk and served as a shining example of virtue, honesty, penury, and modesty to the people of the world.

I keep a scissor jack and impact wrench in the trunk for just such a need Sam. Way better than wasting a long time and energy turning a slow jack by hand.

Dug up some more sumac trees today. Those roots pull up for around 7ft at times. Pulled up some spiked weeds too. Going to get some weed eating done. Tried to trim shrubs but the ego trimmer won't work so I took it to the shop for them to fix or replace. Need to mow but I'm holding off since I like the pretty flowers.

No scissor jacks for me, seen to many people get hurt with them. I keep 3 ton bottle jacks with platforms for them to sit on in each vehicle. I keep tire irons as well along with an battery operated impact driver. I don't like being stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I also have full size tires for spares, Donuts are for eating not drive on. Changed my plans for the day, made a road trip to Marianna to get welding and garden supplies. Needed a change of scenery for a change. It was a nice drive, everything is starting to green up and the wildflowers are blooming.

I mowed for about 3 1/2^? hours. I don't know the length of time for sure, I stopped for lunch when it started to sprinkle and wasn't watching the clock. When I noticed the sun was back out I got back to it, I do know I went through almost two tanks of gas.

 No real rain, we ended up just getting a few sprinkles that dried up very quickly! I got about 2/3-3/4 of the place mowed including the worst of the hills so, the rest will be easy.

 I am taking tomorrow off though.

I only worked 6 hours yesterday. So, I took down a rotted oak tree at the southwest corner of my property when I got home. It came down nicely. I’ll need to get 2 fresh chains for my saws this week to cut it all up. I have a fresh water well right next to it that I plan on cleaning out and using.

I use a Stihl chainsaw sharpener to keep mine cutting good. Just a few swipes on each tooth and it cuts better than new.

The electric sharpeners end up burning the teeth and screw up the temper.

A few days ago I almost photographed the line of similar piles under my husband’s old Tahoe!

It’s pouring rain now. Could dissolve the existing piles but bring opportunities for another round of infection.

No shooting today. 

Got errands done today, including one airgun-related task    . It’s been ages since I took a nap, and the idea is becoming verrrry appealing.

Nice work on that tree John.  I hope you will not be offended by a word of advice.  Start your felling cut a little higher, angle it downwards at about 30% and aim to intersect your felling notch just above the point of the V.  This will ensure that the tree goes the direction you want it to.

No more opiates for me!  I sat around all day with a Codeine hangover from the stuff I took last night to sleep.  I helped the memsahib in the garden some but other than that I got bupkiss done.

I got the mowing done for now. I hit something that tore/spilt one end of one of the blades. I was almost done and it still mowed OK but is unbalanced now. I do have an old blade that is about the same condition as the other blade so I plan on swapping out the torn/split blade.
I could not find what I hit.
