Not much today, platelet donation this morning then finish getting supplies and the mail. Spend this afternoon in the garden getting stuff planted. The spend the evening it in the shop polishing some cut stones.

  We had dinner on our patio overlooking the Sopchoppy river and watched a great sunset over Tate’s heII State Forest.

That sounds like the best time to me

Thank you sir.  I don't consider the meal a success (I cooked it) but the sunset was great!

So far today I have worked a bit in the garden and exercised the dog pack which now includes my mother's dog Bonnie.  We take a tennis ball out to the pasture and the whole bunch chases who ever has the ball.  Sometimes I get to throw it.  After a few minutes the pack will jump in one of the fish ponds and splash around.  Then they will tear off running.  I just sit on my portable stool and supervise.  They do a pretty good job of entertaining themselves.

Any gators in those fish ponds?  Sorry, just saw a report on the news.

I don't worry when they are together.  The ponds are too small to tempt anything except a juvenile gator.  I check them regularly for moccasins and I've never seen a gator in any of them.  It is a concern though because we are only a hundred yards from the river.  Never bet on what a gator won't do.  However Flytrap is a water dog and she has survived 15+ years running loose in gator country.  I would feel sorry for any gator that tangled with Flash.  He has teeth like a Piranha and a real bad attitude.

Pretty much finished up the 2023 taxes.   I'll give them a final check real soon and send them to our dedicated IRS bureaucrats.

More yard work.
I got to it just after daylight this morning and Betty Lou joined me soon after. We worked until noon and then came in for showers and grub.
We pull several shrubs and bushes out of the front with the Kodiak atv. We've been raking up many years worth of pine straw and tree droppings and depositing them on the trail through the woods to soak up the swamp water and build a base.

I've been also working in the back and have most of it knocked down.

The swamp pond it beginning to recede.
The range is set with the target steels on the trees at 25, 35, 45 and 50 with a back stop out at 75. This will get more clearing as work progresses.
Beyond the gate is where we are working on the trail. I'm using the trees we are cutting down to build the base then covering with pine straw and other tree droppings. It will mix with the mud and make a solid trail when it all dries out for the years.

When we first got here this whole back yard looked like what you see beyond the gate.   
I still have several 6 to 8" diameter trees to drop and cut up.

This was the start of a burn on the wildlife area that I work at.  I have about 2000 acres to try and burn this year before April 15th   Marsh nesting usually starts around then.

I didn’t find 1200 acres but I did see 26 acres with a house, outbuildings and a pond for $250,000.  Man those are some cheap prices for all of that.  The 18 acres at the end of our street is 3.5 million.  No way I could touch that unless I trespassed. 😆😎

I drove boat tours all day.  Bit of a bummer.  I had two boats full of ugly Americans and then fortunately a last boat full of happy campers.  Still it wasn’t a stellar day.  I got home to discover a shrimp boil going on on my gazebo and my wife pointed to our recently repowered pontoon boat which is back in the water ahead of shedule so now I’m a happy camper too!

Danny Rollings is the owner of the company.. He's a local hands on kinda guy and who you would want to talk to. I would bet he knows about good options that aren't listed. This area being on one of the direct paths to the Gulf coast will insure property values will continue to rise.

Went to go see the Vampire yet again this morning... that is the 3rd time this week.
Seems to me they are stumped as to the cause of my high blood pressure and keep digging just to milk money out of my insurance.
Doc doubled my dosage a week ago because after that long I hit a record high of 214/112. But because I was taking twice the amount, I am now out of meds and can't get a refill for a week.
        Waiting on a call from the pharmacy

Since I retired and stopped all meds my blood pressure run around 140/90.
LOL... think about it... why would a guy have a DNR and take all that garbage to stay alive?
I have no interest in someone spoon feeding me and changing my diaper.
Betty Lou is well aware of my opinion in the matter.. I was very transparent about very early in our relationship.

Sam what about gator snapping turtles? Those suckers get even larger than most people think. My grandfather had a small pond maybe 50ft wide and 7ft deep yet there was a gator snapping turtle biggest I've ever seen in my life sunning beside it. If I told you how big it was you wouldn't believe me but I saw it up close. Ran to get the gun and when I came back it was gone. Never saw it again and believe me I kept looking for it.  I'd have made national news if I'd killed it.

The Alligator snapping turtle is rare on the Wakulla river though they are here.  It's actually more common to the west of us.  The Florida snapping turtle is more common here though smaller.  A big soft shell turtle is what you want to catch.  Tasty!
