I parked my GMC next to the wood pile we are getting rid of and my wife found another rattlesnake today while loading it into my pickup truck. That is three rattlesnakes in less than a week under that wood pile. I thought something would eat them if I left them out in the open, not so far, so I took a pic of the three together.

So, should we start calling you Dan the snake killer?🤗

Aw, those are cute little babies.
Those rafters are 3' on center and that is a full size truck tailgate. We grow 'em big here in lower Bama.

Yes these are just babies, (I still don't think they are cute though ) but this variety just gets to be up to 4' full grown normally. There are exceptions and we do have bigger varieties here too though. Mom snake and dad snake may be around too.

When they are small it's nice that they can't strike too far but not nice that they are harder to spot!
I am concerned that my wife insists on working on moving the wood when it's warmer than I think is cold enough. She is good at spotting them though.

Some of the big boys around here can knock a man down with a strike. We've been to the Rattlesnake Rodeo in Opp, Alabama a few times. They bring some monsters to that event.

My wife would have fits just looking at those pictures. I have never really believed the expression "petrified with fear" until my wife saw a little king snake shortly after we moved to our new (then) house. We were in the back yard cleaning and all I heard was a chocked scream. I turned around to see my wife statue still, shaking, tears running down her cheeks, unable to move. I went to her and took her in my arms, asked what was wrong and she whispered in a shaking voice ssnake! I picked her up and took her in the house then went outside looking for the "monster". The poor thing was more scared of us than we were of him...I promptly picked it up and put it next to a gopher hole...

My wife stood still in sandals and let a small gopher snake crawl all around and over her feet in October 2020.

Betty Lou helped me skin that big one. She pulled the skin while I held the meat. That boy was still warm and his muscles were still retracting. We found the entire lower half of a squirrel in it's belly. 12 rattles and a button on that guy. The one on the tailgate had 6.

LOL.. no the birds did. I've tasted it before at the Rattlesnake Rodeo and it was ok but not something I eat regularly. Same with gator.

I had a suspicion that some of the guys here had something in common with rattlesnakes.    And I just realized that my suspicion was correct.   You both like squirrel.

LOL... they are quite common where we live. You need to be looking where you walk at all times. I don't reach into places I can't see in. I wear high boots in the woods. A big walking stick is a good thing to carry.

Rattle snake doesn't teast too bad. Kinda sweet and a little rubbery but not bad.

Blowpipe Sam's Chicken Fried Snake Recipe.  Bone the meat and slice it into 1/2" strips.  Marinate overnight in a concoction of 3/4 cup Coca Cola and 1 cup yellow mustard.  Take pieces from the marinade and roll or shake them with seasoned flour and drop them into a deep fryer heated to 275.  Cook three to four minutes.  Served at breakfast with fried eggs and white gravy this is traditional southern "Snake and Eggs"  Potatoes can be substituted for the eggs to make  "Snake and Potatoes".

  I agree it wasn't bad the time I cooked it, I used Cajun seasoning onions and red bell peppers with it. The main thing I didn't care for was that it wasn't meaty enough. It was a lot of work for little meat. It was a 4' rattlesnake but just less meat than it looked like it would have. My one grandson that was here at the time (starving teenager) acted like he loved it though.

I finished installing my batteries in the Dodge and install new outer door handles on my 1969 GMC. The passenger side broke last week so I just bought a pair of new ones. I repaired the driver side a long time ago and it held up great but, New Chrome "OER" looks better. I also picked up after the great pooper. And I installed a new wheel on the driveway gate.

With the storm coming in the other day I got my mother from her home and took her to stay at my place making it just in time before the roads weren't drivable. Power went out in the middle of the night and the generator didn't come on so I went out and eventually got it started. Thankfully before I walked back inside I saw the exhaust pipe rattle loose and tip against the house so I got the welder glove and took it off the generator but not before it burned through the glove and gave me an inch blister on my palm. Power came back on 12hrs later. With the ice melted today in warm weather I took my mother back to her house then reinstalled the exhaust pipe on the generator and it appears solid. Got brake cleaner and sprayed the carbon off the bricks then got a soap rag and wiped the carbon off the new gutter recently installed. Bought groceries then picked up a lot of fallen limbs from the storm.
