Went out early this morning and rekindled last evening's campfire. Then me and Boss walked around picking up random sticks and fallen limbs/branches and brought them to the fire. I dragged all the long logs that got laid against the fence line when I was cutting trees and needed carburetor work done on the chainsaw to a central area for cutting into burnable logs.
Earlier in the year we had a storm come through and blew down a couple standing dead pines from the woods next door. They landed across the drive and I had just cut them and pulled them to the side. One of which was a 30' top that is 10" diameter at the big end. I dragged that into the fence with the Kodiak atv for cutting into logs. There are 3 or 4 more out there that are half the length and twice the thickness that I will get eventually.
All that's left of the old wood stack is some clean up. I messed up putting that stack there because it was on the down side of Betty Lou's she shed roof and the rain runoff rotted the bottom layer.
That can't happen with the new stack because I used treated wood to keep it off the ground and built a shed roof over it.
Between all of this were sessions of chilling by the campfire with a cup of coffee and vaping some sweet tobacco nic salt. Boss chewed on a variety of sticks and pine cones.

Went back out and got about 10 logs cut out of the tree topper and the chainsaw ran out of gas. I got about half of the big end to go. It began a misty sprinkle of rain so I will fill that chainsaw with fuel and wait to see what the weather is going to do. Meantime I'll nibble on Club crackers and chicken salad.

So, how do I get a job like that?  It sounds like a pretty good deal, today.   Being able to shoot out the windows and doors would make it even better.

Sat in my recliner checking for leaks in my eyelids for a short time. I was suddenly transformed into a time where I had an urge to go out and finish cutting up that log... it wasn't a dream, I actually did that. I even cut up 4 or 5 of the other long logs I mentioned earlier. It wasn't long before my lower back confirmed that this was no dream. I loaded the cut logs into the wagon and managed to drag it over to the wood stack. No room for them in the stack so they can just stay in the wagon for the time being. I put the chainsaw away, shut the RED Shed down and came back in for a second opinion on those eyelids.

I worked on coming up with a rental agreement for our place in MO. The neighbor that has been keeping an eye on it and mowing for us asked about it for his pregnant 23 year old daughter, and I think it will be mutually beneficial. It will be worth giving her a great deal to live next-door to her parents, and for us to have it lived in will be good too. I won't have to pay for the mowing anymore either.


 It needs work to clean it up and make it livable which they will do.

Today I flattened out minor damage from a small hog that was in the back yard last night. Flattened some of his damage in the creek trail also. Drove home to shoot it last night but I think it winded me and split. Had him in my sights fixing to pull the trigger the other day but he bolted after seeing his dying buddy dancing on the ground in front of him so I should've shot sooner to kill him too and it would've saved me a few days of having to fix his damage. He'll find out soon enough you mess with my place I'll shoot you in the face is how it works around here.

Finished a huge (late) annual report to Georgia DNR as part of training for my newest team member, then stayed late with him on another report (quarterly) due to the County Soil and Water Conservation Commission for tomorrow morning's meeting.  Sat through a two hour meeting with our GIS/IT experts to figure a better way to collect all the mandated dated for the above mentioned report....Did two MsTeams meetings for potential new development in the City.
And I though guberment workers could be lazy....lol

I wish! I'm a disaster in the ranger station.  That's where I get in trouble.  The boss knows better than to stick me in here on a busy day.

Be careful what you wish for.  Any job this much fun doesn't pay squat.  If I wanted to sit in an office in Tallahassee I could make 30K a year.  I make significantly less than that as a park ranger.

But for sheer unadulterated FUN you can't beat it.

The number one word that will get you in trouble in the park service big time is NO! No you can't do this, NO you can't do that, NO, NO, NO, and NO. Nope, nadda, no way, not happing, not this time or the next, not even there, and so on. Put me on a tractor and bush hog and let me disappear mowing fence lines. I worked in 2 state parks here in Florida 40 years ago and never again. Tree smashing was more my style.

I changed a tire on wife's Durango, took it in for repair (picked up a piece of steel which deflated it quickly), took the spare off and put the repaired tire back on, put the spare back under the vehicle and put everything away. Last time I changed a tire was 40 years ago. Seems like they were a lot lighter back then.  Should have called AAA. Back is killing me now.
