The Red Shed lean to.
I got the posts cut and in place. The top 2x8 band around the top. 2 of the 4 2x4 rafters and the 3 6x10 chain link panels on the sides. Then my old body told me I was done for the day. Tomorrow I will put the other 2 rafters in and the lath for the tin roof. After that I will salvage the tin from around the property for the roof. I should have very close to enough.

Got diagnosed with Kidney Cancer last summer ( I was only 38 ) Had treatment on July 31. I'm waiting for the all clear now. Lost my dog a week before that. All before my birthday Aug 4th. Now I'm going Wed for gall bladder surgury. Fun times.

But not sure the cause of my cancer. I'm the first for my family.

Thanks, yes I served in Afghanistan.  I did have an ultra sound in 2009 that covered my kidneys and was no signs of a tumor. So its something that happened after. I was on a antacid that was recalled due to cancer causing in like 2019/2020. I did have high lead levels due to shooting PB in an indoor range. About 5 years ago. So who knows what caused it. Also based on how little it grew in 9 months between tests.. It grew only .1 of a mm. So being hardly no data of people my age, if it was only .1mm a year and it was 1.3cm. I had it for 13 years.

The slow growth is probably because you're young and your body can fight it. You wouldn't believe how many nam vets went decades with no problem only to have the agent orange rear it's ugly head in their later life.

Was it Ranitidine? I was taking that too for quite a while before the recall. I believe there have many lawsuits from people with issues from taking it.

Honestly there is very little data of growth in people my age as it's a cancer mainly found in people 60 plus. I know someone decade older he had a Kidney tumor that grew couple inches in a year. He was never deplyed to Afghanistan. I heard the avg was .3mm a year.

I don't think it was tour related. Nobody else I know that deployed to Afghanistan developed RCC. Including my father.

I'm thinking the high lead levels played a part. Also mechanics can develop it, due to chemicals and such. But who knows.

Got out just after daylight to work on the lean to. It was nice and cool. Finished the 2 x 4 rafters and put 2 rows of stringers on top. I went down to the barn and checked out the tin roofing. As luck would have it there are 3 sheets at 21' long and I need 6 10'6" panels to cover the roof.... perfect.
I think I'll tackle that job tomorrow. I'm in no hurry, when this project is done I'll simply move on to the next one. The goal is to just keep busy doing stuff.

Shot one of the four coons tearing my place up last night. Another one got caught on trail cam walking by sniffing the dead critter then decided it was best to de@ss the place forthwith. The vultures showed up today to get started on the carcass. Now to get another one or two then they'll be managed for the time being.

I had hastily put stuff in my tool shed to protect it from the coming rain a couple of weeks ago. We have had so many gnats that I just left it until today. The gnats are way fewer now and it was a nice 75°F day. so I pulled it all out, sorted and rearranged got it all put away neatly. Now I can open the big side door I had piled stuff in front of and I can get to all my tools in that shed easily again too.   


 We have a 20% chance of rain overnight and everything will stay dry and I still can get to all my tools in that shed easily again too.   


 edit: I just checked the weather and the chance of rain overnight has been reduced to 15% and by 10:00 AM down to 3%.

Day one of The Big Vacation!  So far I have drunk tea, smoked my pipe, walked the dogs around the pasture, shot both Crosman Fires, and it's not even noon yet!

For the afternoon I'm thinking about taking the dogs back to the sand quarry for a run and some plinking.

I replaced the stair landing decking that goes from our back deck to the ground on the west end of the deck. It was dry rotted bad. We actually never use that set of stairs because Hanks kennel makes them less convenient and the main stairs in front of the back door are great.
 I notice the top decking of it had soft spots the other day when I used it for a workbench.
  It was 1 1/8" decking, I replaced it with some 2"x10" oak boards I had from a picnic table I took apart recently.


 I still need to clean up the mess, put away the tools, and paint it but it is rock SOLID now!

Just saved a gopher snake from a pack of Vicious dogs. Well I guess they weren't vicious and it was only 2 of my dogs but anyway...... I was really proud of tuffy bear. He's one of our mutts. He was barking at it but was smart enough not to attack it.

Finally made it to water to fish. The cooler is full and my butt is wore out. I would have stayed until dark but the rain chased me off the water. Mixed catch today, sail cat, croaker, and whitting. Hoping in the next few weeks to get some mullet to smoke, I miss that a lot. Now that I have the time to do it, I can go when they start run and roe up. Red roe, back bones, and gizzards fried and white baked up.

November will be the month for roe mullet round here.  I hope my shoulder will be well enough to throw a cast net then.  Do you clean sail cat as soon as you catch them?  I always heard they were best if you cut the blood line out as soon as you caught them and then ice them.

I went grocery shopping with the memsahib.  We made it until the third week of the month without having to go and we had our daughter living with us for the last month.  That's not bad.  The only meat left in the house was two packages of frozen catfish and a link of venison sausage.  We bought only enough meat to see us through til the end of the month when we will go to Costco.

I need to make with the hunting and the gathering!

I cut the tail to bleed them just like bluefish and throw them in the cooler. When I filet them, I stay just above the blood meat and get a nice boneless filet, I keep the throat meat too. The only time that I will not keep them is when they smell like iodine when they come out of the water. I do the same for the croaker, I have had some that stunk so bad that you couldn't use them for bait. Only certain times of the year they are that way. The atlantic sea nettles are in the bay right now, so throwing a castnet for mullet is going to be tricky, once they get caught in the net you are done, unless you want a butt load of stings to go with your fish.
