Up early with coffee in hand while everyone else is still in bed. I slipped out to the bar room and turned on the news. It wasn't long before I saw things that needed done and got up to do them.
I hadn't even notice but my boy Rambo had sneaked in and was laying in a dark area watching me. Kinda startled me.
It's coming along but not quite ready for the big reveal yet.

Up early this morning to get the van fixed and ready for a one day road trip this weekend. Get the grass mowed before I step on a snake. I am not afraid of snakes, I just don't like stepping on them at all, stepped on enough in my career. Get the usual chores done before I fry in this miserable heat.

Day off today.  Nate turns 14 today!  Awake @ 0530.  Outta bed @ 0610.  Made espresso for cappuccino.  Quiet time outside by the fire waiting for people to wake up and start the day.

Up early and off to the hospital for a magnesium infusion.  There won't be any shooting againn today.

Yesterday I was fishing and Kayaking in Idaho, I had a great time and finished the day by swimming in the pool while gabbing in the Jacuzzi too where a grandson lives until 1:00

Continuing with the birthday theme....

I was also informed that there were Yellow Jackets swarming around the front gutter.  They were slipping under the metal drip edge into the space inside the roof.  Very active even this morning so I set up the shop vac to capture them as they went in and out of the nest.  After some time and effort there is no more activity there.  I have them trapped and cooking in the shop vac as I type.  I'll monitor the entrance for the rest of the day then I'll seal it up if no more activity is detected.  I'll try and do a rough count once I'm sure they are dead in there.  I'm guesstimating a couple-300 if not more.

Just finished delivering 1500 gallons of water to my neighbor. 500 more tomorrow. It's looking like the monsoons are really going to start this time on Sunday so I'm getting our tanks filled in case it's a gully washer and I can't get out and back with the water trailer.

Brett, that type of scenario is a good way to have a bad day.  Good thing you nipped it in the bud- the best time to catch them is when the nest is small like that.  My neighbor, a renter who takes pride in the house he rents, asked for some help with ground hornets a couple days ago and we had a long run of extension cord hooked to my shop vac doing the same thing.  Of course the little rascals tried exiting the other way but my neighbor had some armorflex conduit running from his Z-Turn mower's exhaust into the 2nd hole which drove 'em back.  Only a few got past the vacuum and we've seen no activity since.  He has a big phat happy pitbull that LOVES chasing and eating hornets.  Apparently, she is unaffected by the stings (or she just ignores them, hard to say).

I've always been amazed people will own homes and totally ignore everything outside despite warning signs stuff may be happening that ain't so good.  Fallen gutters, missing siding, soggy spots along the outer foundations, standing water over leech fields, poison ivy/oak/sumac popping up in gardens, dead branches above walkways and autos...This kid's a renter and he takes better care of the place than most owners in the 'hood.

Good morning, trying to get the outdoor stuff done quickly before the "excessive" heat kicks in later. Heat index 113 for the day and the NWS has issued an advisory for it. Finish getting the van cleaned up and road ready. Garbage to the road for pick up. Make sure the outside zoo's water system is working properly, I have been lucky so far that I haven't lost any chickens to heat. Pick up the mail and find some blood meal for the garden at the hardware store.

Today is Betty Lou's birthday. The plan was to take her to the local steak house for a nice dinner. Those plans changed at her request. She wants to make her own birthday dinner. She claims she can never get a steak cooked the way she wants it unless she cooks it herself. So yesterday we went and bought a couple really nice ribeye steaks, good size potatoes, salad fixins and a berry cheesecake pie.
The new bar area is completed to the point where we can enjoy some adult beverages in there later.

I paid 40k delivered. Yes, I know, lots of scratch...

We own old cars, we dont have any bills but taxes and electricity so this was a decision we labored over for a long time. Skid steers with tracks are going for 80k new, this was a nice compromise.

The rocks I am picking weigh 300#-1000# and I was able to pop one an hour by hand but 600# was my limit. the forks allowed me to pop over 100 in 4 hours yesterday.

Off to get a female end QD, the o-ring failed inside the fitting so off to the dealer to grab a new one.

Very nice set up, plenty of hp to take of the big jobs. Beats hauling stuff in a wheel barrow.


The Kubota tractor I have came with an integrated backhoe that I can take off anytime, the entire front end loader is the same way. It's a 23hp 3 cyl. diesel with hydra static transmission and 4wd. I didn't want enclosed cab, didn't need it. Tractor and 18ft trailer with tandem wheels and electric brakes.  Whole set up 23K and paid for. It has be great to have for the hurricane clean up and  has become a very useful tool and not a lawn ornament like some of these compact tractors end up being.  The back hoe came in handy when digging up the stumps in my yard. Got this one freed up and built a ramp for the truck drag it out of the hole. I had 2 more to dig up like that.

Got the 2500 gallon tank filled. Ended up only needing 1700 gallons to fill it. Man am I cooking!🫠🥵🥵🥵 It was 90 before 8 this morning and is 98 right now. I had 800 gallons left over so was trying to park the trailer where it normally goes. With that much weight I had a heck of a time trying to get it up there. Dang back of truck slide sideways and messed me up as to where the trailer was going and I backed it up to far into the hog fence. Spent a lot of time trying to get it straightened out and that's how I got cooked. 😡
