Picked up Grand daughter #3 after work. Made her dinner then I mowed the back yard. After that we played frisbee.

Drove into Springfield MO to see a friend in the Hospital that had back surgery yesterday, visited a while and the went to lunch before heading back to my son's place. I then went with the granddaughter when she got home from school and got the Avalon transferred into her name.

I already accomplished the one thing I wanted to wrap up today... getting my Statesman riding mower operational.  Cuts beautifully, now.

I traced the root of the problem back to that shorted blade safety switch... Amazon supplied the OEM MTD parts (replaced seat interlock, too).

Working on the chipper/shredder, in need of mulch for the garden and fruit trees. Cleaned out some of the glass collection yesterday, I don't have to worry about canning jars any time soon. Mow grass and do some pruning.

I lost power for over an hour, so I opted to cut the backyard with the mower I fixed this morning.  Power is back on now so all I have left is the "day job" and loading the canoe onto my truck racks.  We're probably going to load about a thousand pounds of rock in the bed.  My in-laws gave us the go-ahead to move one of several rock piles from here to our property a couple hours west (which, humorously, is only about 3 miles away where they came from over 25 years ago) so that's the "after work" task.

Well I trained the new new guy at work today.  Y'all get the feeling they give me newbies to train?  He's alright.  He's been a lifeguard here and he knows the drill.  I got him cleared to operate all the power tools and to drive an ATV and a SXS.  The local universities have just finished the semester and the beach is covered with lovely young women in bathing suites so about middle of the afternoon I sent him to "patrol" the beach.

Yeah, he took off like a shot!

Shoveled some compost for my wife.   She retired a few weeks ago and has gone crazy with the volume of flower planting this year.   Cut and hauled some brush.   Had a pretty good workout with a pole saw while pruning around the yard.    I might be to tired to go clubbing tonight, JK.

This thread reminds me that I need to weed the garden tomorrow morning. I've got most everything planted, except for beets and sunflowers. The grass and dandelions are trying to take over my greens.

Dandelion leaves are very edible when they are small.   I've also eaten the flowers.   I believe the roots are edible also.    I don't eat as many dandelion parts as I used to because of the big dog going out to water the lawn (and dandelions).

All parts of a dandelion are edible.  Young leaves are like a bitter green, very nutritious!  Roasted roots are tasty.  Most folks see weeds.  I see a healthy yard, especially when mixed with local grasses, multiple types of clover, buttercup, etc- this describes our backyard.  I rotate sections to leave uncut for several weeks at a time.

Sonja and I visited a local farm market and bought some stuff from a family friend.  She'd give it to us for free, but we like contributing.  Then off to TSC- I really could use a dedicated brushcutter, so I'm comparison shopping.  We stopped on the way back and checked out a house for sale.  If we were retired, I'd have no hesitation getting into flipping.  This particular house is a flipper's dream IF they aren't afraid to work.  Most of the flipping I see around Richmond and surrounding locales is devoid of personality, overly complex landscaping that will fail or has invasive species planted, and the interiors are bereft of personality with horribly designed kitchens and bathrooms.  I mean, who needs a 400 square foot bathroom with the toilet in the open, a ginormous jet-tub and a dinky shower stall- and otherwise just a lot of wasted floorspace.  I guess for a ping-pong table?

Anyway, we just got back...  gotta load the canoe onto my truck racks and get some rip-rap and rock loaded in the bed, then start thinking about dinner.  I'm thinking about breaking out the archery gear and flingin' some arrahs

Platelet donation this morning, picked up zoo food, some pea seed and a rosemary bush, grass shears for getting around stuff the weed eater can't get. Sitting here waiting for it to quit raining, sea breeze storms have begun finally.

Had a big group of German tourist in the park today.  Middle aged industrial management types on rented Harleys.  I was shuttling back and forth between the college age party scene at the sink holes and the the slightly more civilized redneck family beach party scene at the spring.  No sooner had I pulled up to my usual vantage spot at the beach than I noticed a balding middle aged man disrobing directly in front of me.  Realizing that this must be some of my Germans I hopped out of my Kawasaki Mule stammering "Moment mal, moment mal, bitte!" and waving my arms.  But not before the fellows companion drops trou too!  Now I have two confused naked tourist, my German is pretty rusty and the Wilkilya county natives are starting to notice what's going on.  Angry shouts start.  I position myself between the two confused men and the angry mob that is forming.  "Nudity ist verbotten"  I try.  "Nicht hier.  Hier ist der bible belt".  It's worth a try.
"Der beeblebelt?"
"Ja, ja, beeblebelt!"
Comprehension dawns.   Embarrassed they quickly donned their clothing conversing with each other in German.  I couldn't understand most of it but the jist was "What quaint ways these rustic Americans have!"

Oh yeah, while all this was going on I also had to close the diving tower because some of our local JD's had taken over the top level and were terrifying the little ones.  Then it was warn a bunch of swimmers to leave the Manatee alone.  I had to explain to some young ladies in very clinical terms why they needed to keep their distance from male Manatee.  Shortly after I reopened the diving tower one of the JD's decided to test if I really was watching him. 
Yep.  I was.
Closed the diving tower for another thirty minutes.
Y'all starting to get the picture that I'm the MEAN ranger?
Around two O'clock I handed it off to my relief with a huge sigh of relief!

Man I love my job!  Wouldn't trade it for anything!
