 Today I took a leisurely ride on snow covered roads through the Kettle Morane, to pick up a loaner orchard sprayer, then got it back and set it up on a tractor ready to go tomorrow.

Planted 3 blueberry bushes in the ground that had been in pots.
Cleaned up the remaining sod.  Cleared out where the bee hive is. 
Trimmed a couple of bushes.  Line trimmed around the large firepit
and knocked down some mole hills.  Put lawn tools away that we had been
using the last couple of weeks.  Planning where I need to build another
building for storage...

When we got back from the store run today I was issued my marching orders from the boss.. the 2 legged boss.
Today was to be a Betty Lou day. The only time I was allowed to go into the Red Shed was to get a tool that we needed.
We have a chain link kennel. We took the 4 best 10' x 6' panels and made a square in a nice damp but sunny place in the yard. Just outside of her she shed. One of the 4 panels has a walk in door with a latch.
A few storms back trashed one of our pop up canopies so I saved the cover and it fit the top of the cage perfectly with a tall pole to peak the center.
A week or so ago she started her veggie seeds and they have broken ground in the planting cups. Today while we were in town we picked up 2 rolls of 10' x 24' 6 mil clear plastic.
We finished up setting her benches, tables and hanging rods today and tomorrow morning before it gets too hot out, we'll wrap the side walls of her new hot house.

As did I. There were 0 ant beds in the yard as of Saturday but today as I was mowing I saw there are already around 20 starting up! Those little bastages are relentless but so am I. They'll be dead tomorrow.

I don't know if you can buy it where you are but TEMPO is a great way to get rid of about anything six legged.

I'm familiar with Tempo, I have poultry running loose on my property and they do a good job of taking out the majority of the destructive pests in the yard. I prefer to keep to the organic methods as much as possible. Tempo is available in this area at about $80 a quart, Terro is $5 an ounce and a soda cap full will kill a mound in 24 to 48 hours and not wipe out the rest of the yard in the process. I flood a lot here so a broad cast application of pesticides is not feasible for me.  I thank you for the info, it may help others as well.

I spent most of yesterday taking the memsahib to the dentist for another extraction.  We're getting old and neither of us has taken care of our teeth.  I had all mine out last summer so this year it is her turn.


It was a rough extraction and I've convinced her to take it easy today.  I've been piddling in the garden within earshot of her if she needs anything.  I cooked up a big pot of beef stew for her so she has something soft to eat.

I put a new motor in a lawn tractor today, and then mow about 2 1/2 acres, took fast shower and then 5:00 PM Ch**ch.

Piddled around in the garden some.  Took a nap.  Shot some spinners.  Walked the pups.

Push mowed another part of the yard, cleaned up pine cones, sprayed the fruit trees, cooked a pot full of turnip greens, started looking for another tangerine tree just in case I loose the battle with the one that is freeze damaged, ordered a few more things to finish fixing the truck, fuel pumps are in for the tractor and do a service on it while I have the skid plate off when installing the fuel pump. I have been holding off fixing some of the mechanical stuff with an irritated disc that is the result of me taking a spill out the back door a few months ago and landing on my hip. I didn't break anything but sported a bruise for a week. Yep, that was a big wake up call about being more careful around the house.

That engine I took out has 21.8 hours on it. I am embarrassed to admit I got distracted by lunch and then some cleanup after converting the easy change oil system and then my memory issue bit me hard and I ran it without oil for less than a minute, but it needs a rebuild now because it started knocking a little while later. My plan is to rebuild it and put it in our backup lawn tractor that is real tired but functional except for the motor that just quit starting, it still cranks but backfires instead of starting.

Continued tinkering on the back up lawn tractor. Got the engine hood put back on and the tires sorted out.
The mower deck has a broke weld on a bracket that allowed the deck to ride forward and the deck wheel would run the front tire. As a temp measure I put a ratchet strap on it.
I'm not sure how long this thing sat around but I'm gonna do an oil and filter change tomorrow. Might as well grab a gas and air filter while I'm at it. There is a Husqvarna dealer right down the road in town. That's most likely where Killer bought this mower. I checked the blades and they look good. I took the garden hose to it and I must admit, it cleaned up pretty good.
This will do until I get a replacement motor for the z turn.. Probably next month. Meantime I'll pull the motor off the z turn and get things cleaned up and ready.
Betty Lou never took the time to learn to run the z turn but she hopped right on this lawn tractor.

When I was growing up, one of the weekend chores was clean house and laundry with the option of mowing, me and my brothers would fight over who got to mow the grass, that ought to tell you something right there.

I've done oil changes myself for decades because I want to make sure it's done right without damaging anything else under the hood like oil change places did me in the past. I forgot to tighten the drain plug with a wrench as it was only hand tightened and it fell out spilling all the oil while driving. I eventually made it to the dealer around 15 minutes later and they plugged it and slapped a new drain plug in but I likely took off half the engine's life with that stunt.

Finally started to patch the holes that were made to run some lights in the house.  Took the car in for its 10000 mile service.  Coffee out with Mrs. P.  Played pool with pops.  Moving and stacking firewood.  Just had a snack and chilling for a few.  Probably round up some boys and get busy with some more wood.

When I told my son about it he said the memory wasn't the problem, trusting memory was, and if I had a preventive procedure it would not have happened. That is why I came up with removing the dipstick and key and putting the dipstick through the key. I have worked on all my own vehicles that I have ever owned and it was a first that made me feel real stupid, but it was not a matter of intelligence, but of attention.
