It's been hard trying to find that Christmas spirit this year. Today I had to watch my wife being taken out of the house on a gurney with sciatica which caused her to miss two dialysis treatments. This was after I shoveled the walk and the drive for the paramedics It hasn't been pleasant as I have tried to help her as she was unable to walk and I had to bring her every item she required;
My wife will be in the hospital tonight and probably tomorrow as well.
She is getting a dialysis cleanse and some pain pills and they are looking at high potassium levels.
Yeah, Bah Humbug. Hug your loved ones.

Betty Lou started cooking at around 8 this morning... ham in the oven and prep work.
We sat down to eat at around 1pm. I've had the hot water faucet open in the kitchen all morning. When we finished eating, she said.. "I' going to put some pans of water on the stove to heat it up for these dishes." She no sooner got the words out of her mouth and we heard gurgle gurgle. And the water began to flow. Slow at first then full force and hot water soon to follow.
I went to the bathroom and nothing in the sink yet. Next was the shower... gurgle gurgle, then hot water. Suddenly the hot and cold water began flowing in the sink.

Merry Christmas to us... we have received hot and cold running water.... and not one leaky pipe.


I turned the water off at the meter to the bar and opened the faucet. I'm just going to leave it off until spring or we need it, whichever comes first.

I'm headed for a hot shower... Betty Lou already beat me to it.

Yep, and we smell alot better too.
Last shower was Friday morning. I was really hoping we wouldn't have to go another day. I wasn't looking forward to a sponge bath in the kitchen sink.

In 1962, the temperature in Lafayette, LA fell to 8ºF and stayed below freezing for several days.  I was in college at the University in the middle of EXAMs.  The officials decided to  complete testing before shutting down the University for the Winter Break.  The water pipes froze on Friday, Jan. 12, 1962.  I finished exams on the following Wednesday and went back home [my mom and dad's home], and finally enjoyed a bath.  That is the longest I remember going without a bath.  On the other hand, everyone at USL mostly smelled the same that week!

I have broken plumbing and will deal with it when it warms up. I do have water just have to carry it in right now, no worse when I went through Hurricane Michael(4 weeks of no water and electricity). Just the joys of dealing with cold weather. Hopefully this will be the only severe arctic blast that I have to deal with this winter.

About a week ago the memsahib reminded me that we traditionally run out of propane at Christmas.  I checked the tank and sure enough it was low.  So we swapped an empty 20 lb tank for a Blue Rhino tank.  We can run off our 250 gallon tank, a 100 lb tank or any RV tank.

Oh no, Kris! Seems you deal with one thing after another. I know the feeling, so I sure feel for you right now. Hopefully, it’ll warm up and you can get your water back into working order.

I had already had my mind set that we would have broken pipes.
I plan to do some heat tape wrapping and insulating this spring I fear this may be a sign of things to come.
I wonder if they make some type of electrical junction box that turns on when temps drop below freezing?

I plan to do some heat tape wrapping and insulating this spring I fear this may be a sign of things to come.
I wonder if they make some type of electrical junction box that turns on when temps drop below freezing?

You’re both right about that. I’ve been 2-4 hours from home, or out of state when my wife has called. One time for a water heater that blew out and leaked from the bottom. Some things are not so bad, I can tell her what to shutoff until I get home. And of course, I’m the one who has to put in the overtime to fix whatever it is. But, that’s home ownership, stuff happens.
