Worked outdoors for 6 hours. I now have my 69 GMC filled up with scrap metal ready to haul away.

I think I can make another metal load yet with what's left around here though.

The 420 Rancher has been draining the battery overnight lately. It's a 2019 and I don't remember putting a new one in it. I know I had to get one for Betty Lou's Kodiak.
If I run the Rancher throughout the day it will stay charged but, drains overnight. I have added a winch, a 16" LED light and a power outlet for the speaker and spray tank but I only plug into that when in use. I added all that when I first got the atv in 2020 and never had a problem.
I'm wondering if it's the battery or if one of my connections/switches went bad. So I pulled the battery and put it on a slow charge. Once fully charged I'll leave it sit on the bench and see if it holds.
Meantime I'll fire up the compressor and blow everything out under the seat.

I did something amazing.   I put on socks.  This may not sound like a big deal but I took a bad fall in March of 2019 and this was the first time I've been able to do it since then.  In a way, it doesn't matter because my feet never get cold and I often shovel snow in sandals but it's nice to have some more flexibility back.   Maybe this spring I'll be able to ride a bicycle or motorcycle again.   I never used to understood why old people were so afraid of falling.

Well,as I said earlier, I'm in shorts. I had sweat pouring off me as I'm cutting up the branches I cut off a dead tree in my burn barrel.

Congrats Ernie! Hoping the cycle won't repeat itself with you riding again. People often don't see me in my car plus the roads are garbage so no way I'm riding cycles anymore.

You don't need to WORK at it.  You just need a wife that has her own pick up truck and way too much time on her hands.

Every three to six months we make a run to the scrap yard and sometimes we clear enough to pay for lunch.

Scrap metal can be a real profit center.   For a while I worked for a tech company.   They did a lot of rehabbing in old buildings and when they wanted to build a new server room or engineering lab, they wanted it now.   Speed mattered and no one cared about the value of scrap except me.   I always did the first demo and cherry picked the metal.   When copper buss bars 3 or 4 inches wide are going in the dumpster,  I made sure I was first in line.   Pickup truckloads of solid aluminum heat sinks from huge burn in rooms for PC boards, I wasted most of that money because I just saw it as a nice little bonus.

What line of work is one in to accumulate that much scrap metal?

The guy that had a stroke here left 2 utility trailers overloaded full, the Ford 250 full, Chevy Van partly full, and Jimmy. And my grandson had left some car parts behind one of my sheds too.

 Beyond this load, next will be what I saved for repairs and customizations, a bunch of car parts and hardware that added to over the years, stored in a 35' semi trailer that has shelves down the sides. I use to know exactly what I had and where it was, my memory is not that good anymore. I used the stuff I had over the years as I repaired almost anything that broke. I am a MacGyver type guy. I have quite a collection of motorcycle parts too.  Besides vehicle parts, I also have plumbing and electrical construction supplies.

My goal is to get rid of most of it now.

 I know if I had spent some time sorting metal types I could have gotten more $ but my goal was to get rid of it so I made one mixed metal trip and let them make some extra money. They also took two steel wheels with tires mounted which is against their policy, but they could see what I was giving them was worth helping me out by taking the tires too.

 The stuff that was abandoned here was a lot of work sorting the metals from miscellaneous trash. It was a storage unit or two that he won the auction on (intended to be resold).

 I am glad to have that done, there is a little more clean up but that area will totally cleaned up before any more rain.

Yeah, that was my goal... to just clean up this place and get rid of everything several people have left here over the years. Don't get me wrong, there are things here that can still be useful and I will keep and store it in an organized fashion. I see the rest of it as junk that needs to be removed. Not looking at it as anything of value in money... just junk that needs to go. After this load is unloaded I may have one more good trailer load down in the barn that can go but, I don't really use that barn for anything right now and that stuff is not in the way. It just provides rodents and snakes a place to live in it's current condition.

My scrap runs are generally $200-$400 about 6 times a year and $80-$150 about 6 times a year. But it is a lot of work stripping & sorting. I’m getting to where I don’t want it here anymore, but I’ve been doing it so long, I can’t just let it go yet.

I sell my blasting wire when I have a few hundred pounds at $1 a pound. Last time was like 800 pounds my pore s10 the bed was slam full. I dont get wire like I used to but that isnt a big issue I make up in the over time.

I used to scrap cars years ago in Columbus Ohio. I would strip them out and sort the heavy metal then load the bodies 5 at a time on a goose neck and haul them to the shredder in Ashland, Ky. At about $100 profit per load in those days it was worth it.
yeah, I still carry some scars from those days.
