I drug an old Dagger ABS canoe down to the river this a.m. and paddled a couple of miles up stream. The Dagger is some what tubby but my preferred boat, an even older fiberglass Mohawk, is just too heavy for me to manage by myself anymore. I caught the flooding tide on the way upstream and drifted back on the ebb. I caught some shell crackers and a couple of chain pickerel. Nothing to brag about. I’m gonna go sit by one of our fish ponds this evening and get up a mess of catfish. Fried catfish, grits, and greens for dinner tomorrow!

I was the mean ranger today. The beach was a zoo and believe me the heat makes people STOOPID! I had the usual cast of drunks, JD’s, frat boys and red necks but today there was also a perv annoying the ladies. I nearly lost my temper with the creep and had to hand off to another ranger and go cool down. Since I am 6’6” and roughly 300 lbs I get to play the heavy whenever one of the other rangers need backup. Not my favorite role. I’m more like Ferdinand. I’d really rather sit in the shade and take it easy. We rode that crowd like a government mule. Every time they looked around there was a ranger standing there watching them. The booze stayed in the coolers, the dope stayed out of sight and we made them walk a thin line. I got a few dirty looks but at the end of the day nobody got hurt, nobody went to the hospital, and nobody went to jail. Believe me that is a highly successful day for a park ranger!
Thank God I got my tractor back from the shop recently or else I would have had to try to tow my mower back to my shop with my car after the drive belt broke and I don't know how that would've gone. Got the mower chained to the loader and lifted it up then installed the new drive belt. No way I could have installed it without the tractor to lift it because that belt was a tight fit requiring my full strength and tools that I couldn't have used on the ground. Got more mowing done afterward then cooled off eating a big delicious slice of cold watermelon. A country boy can survive.

Frontend loaders and backhoes are more than dirt movers huh Gil, they are tire changers, boom lifts, short term cherry pickers(beats a using a ladder), invasive plant pluckers, forklifts for feed, the possibilities are endless with them. Mine has saved me a lot of headache around the house in the last few years.
