A old friend of mine was a life long cigarette smoker, alcoholic and heavy pot smoker.  When he was about in his early 60s he decided to clean up his act.   He said that quitting the alcohol and pot was easy compared to cigarettes.   Unfortunately, shortly after cleaning up his act he passed away.

Just my luck, I'll finally quit completely and get run over by a flippin' Morlboro truck the next day.

I’m incorrigible.

I hit the ground running today.  I was the only boat captain at work this morning and in addition to driving the first two tours I also had to take the pontoon boat out and harass a very persistent nuisance gator that kept wanting to hang out in the swimming area.  Three times.  The last time out I untied the boat and jumped on before I noticed that one of the dock hands had removed the keys.  No paddle.  I had to toss out the mud hook and call for help on the radio.  Fifty yards from the dock.  Very embarrassing.  My boss was the only other boat captain in the park at that time and he had to come rescue me.  Got back to the dock and went to help another ranger move said gator with a catch pole.  We caught her ( little four footer) and hauled her out of the swimming area. Then a mother manatee and her calf bumbled into the swimming area and I had to go and keep swimmers from crowding her.  Very funny really.  Fifteen minutes before there wasn’t a soul in the water while we were wrangling the gator. Drove two more tours and called it a day.
And for the first time in 15 years I’ve got the Memorial Day weekend off!

Carlos is in the camper next door.
He is a fellow Air Force Veteran from about the same time I served.
 Except Carlos is a Disabled Vet. Right leg amputee and lost most use of his left arm.
  Well he ordered a recumbent bicycle custom made with all the controls on the right handlebar and Friday the Amazon van delivered it here to the campground!
 "Some assembly required" so I grabbed my tool box from the truck and we got it together in short order. Getting in and out is hard for him but we got the seat adjusted and have a good pattern on how to manage it.
 He was so grateful it literally brought tears to my eyes.
He has been on it already again this morning.

Took a trip to Andalusia just for the ride of it. They have a Dirt Cheap store there that resells closeouts and returns from big box stores like Walmart. Picked up a folding table for the Blackstone flat top to sit on at one end of the shootin' deck next to the gas grill. Walked around a few other stores while we were there.

Picked up four yards of horse manure from a farmer buddy.  He loaded it with his tractor.  I’ll be unloading it with a shovel.  The memsahib and I harvested the new potatoes and replanted with Idaho spuds.  We grow potatoes in big tubs and just turn them over to harvest.  We also planted a third round of tomatoes but I am not sanguine about these making it.  Our first planting is bearing right now and the second planting will be bearing in about two weeks. After that I think it will be too hot for tomatoes to set.

The memsahib disagrees.

We are just now getting to our first planting! We tried to put out some plants early, like four weeks ago, and had mixed results. Those plants are just now taking off after doing our first serious planting. I feel like we are late, but we are right on time for Northern-ish Maine. Hopefully next year we will have a greenhouse to start our plants in and hopefully get ahead.

I had more fun than anyone.   I dug up the septic tank cover.   Hopefully the septic tank pumping guy will show up tomorrow.
