Speaking of work and salaries....
Got an e-mail yesterday.. Thursday's paycheck will include my evaluation increase plus a 15% salary increase. Both retroactive from March 1st. Wondered why the palm of my hand has been itching for the past week. Funny thing is that Betty Lou's opposite palm has been itching...... 

I have a claim in with the VA, if it all works out I should have a lot less economical stress!

woke before 10, that's very unusual for me.  after the big storm last night the sun is shining and the winds are calm. i thought with all the rain we got, they wouldn't be clearing trees today and i could get some shooting in.  not to be.  they're hauling out trees and decided it's a good day to fix those tiny leaks in the inflatable dinghy.  with the Achilles patched and the weather cooperating, i think i'll have some lunch and then go for a sail.

Refuse to work long days and they will be much faster finding someone. As long as you are willing to work like a slave for them, they have no reason to replace you.

Nah, I understand how this company operates, it’s not slavery- I get paid ridiculously well for what I do. I was salary/management here for a year & a half. The amount of overtime can be brought down with more technicians. We do service work and the demand vs. capable available technicians is uneven right now. I’m going to start recruiting myself… my closest help just got fired this morning. I hate it and I really wanted to and tried to invest in him, but he had it coming. Now I’m short one more. I do one job at a time. Unfortunately, they stack up. If I can find 3 more guys it’ll help get me back to a comfortable spot. 4 would be even better. And I know for a fact I won’t be doing this sort of thing forever, so I’ll keep on until I’m done.

Yup DJ,  but my somewhat broken down old body isn't just from work.   Years of heavy weightlifting, running (very bad for big guys), skateboarding till I was in my 50s, dirtbikes, all kinds of crashes, generally pushing my body to the max has taken a toll.   I would probably do most of it again, it sure was fun.

Studies show being really active and getting some bumps and bruises isn't bad for you, but working 10+ hrs a day for six or seven days a week will definitely put a hurting on you later in life. Isolated events don't tear us up too bad, but repeatedly doing the same motions for the majority of your waking time during your life will put a hurting on you.

Sometimes I think I smartened up in my old age re pushing my body.   But yesterday a local food bank asked me if I could drive a truck up to the state food bank and pick up a load of supplies.  Of course I agreed and made some assumptions on what that would involve.    So when I got to the state food bank I was surprised that I was going to load the truck by hand from pallets on the ground.  No forklift or young guys helping.   So me and and another old guy loaded 4 pallets (approx 3800 pounds) the old fashioned way.   A trivial amount when I was younger.   Then back to the local food bank, unload the truck and stock shelves.     Yesterday was a good workout for an old guy and I'm hurtin' today but I got grass to mow, dirt to shovel and a pistol competition at 3PM.

That is the remainder of a utility pile that has been there for about 3 years..........
Gonna get a new pile, but put it in a different spot...........lots to fill..........

Went to follow up with doctor after last Wednesday's ablation surgery. All looked good so I went and put a nice expensive tonneau cover on my pickup truck to celebrate waking up from last week's surgery. The weight restrictions come off today so now I can start pumping up my old Benji's and getting some shooting in

I was trying to find a replacement part for a Black & Decker Trimmer/Edger.  It is the little part that works the auto-line-feed.  I will likely have to order one from the company.  That probably means a $2 part and $8 shipping.
When I left Home Depot, I had a new Trimmer/Edger in the back of my pickup truck.

I was the late field ranger today which means I ran errands for everyone until 5:30 when they all went home.  Then I cleaned bathrooms.

The life of a ranger is not always glamour and adventure.

I'm doing some renovation at my younger daughter's house and she wants to replace the bathtub with a shower unit. I have been looking for a shower unit for three weeks. The current Covid inspired  building materials shortage makes it extremely difficult to obtain the necessary material.  The windows are taking 9 weeks to arrive.

I drove to an hour and a half to Tylertown to Luter's Supply to see if they had a 60" x 32" x 77" fiberglass shower in stock. Much to my surprise they had exactly what I needed. I'm driving back tomorrow morning pulling to pick it up.

I moved seven 4.5 week old chicks outside to the aviary/coop yesterday. Usually I keep them in a medium sized dog crate for a week to "acclimate", but I built a new setup that will keep my adult chickens from sticking their heads in and eating all of the chick's feed. It's just a wooden cube made of 2x2's and hardware cloth on all sides but the bottom, but it works. The chicks were very sad to spend their first night in the coop and they cried for me when I was closing everything up last night. The next batch of chicks is due to hatch from the incubator Sunday night, so I need to clean out the indoor brooder and get it ready for them. I also have two hens in my coop that are sitting on a combined five fertile eggs. There were more, but a few didn't make it, and one of my hens almost went the full three weeks, but abandoned the nest. I don't know why she did it, but it's a shame, four eggs were very close to hatching. I'm thinking another set of nesting boxes will help alleviate the henhouse drama.

Lumber is coming down for the summer, it's down to .$75/bdft, but I don't expect it to go less than $.50/bdft again.

The memsahib and I maintain several rental properties and we have gone to FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic panels) for our shower surrounds.  In fact we paneled two of our renter bathrooms entirely in FRP.  It’s not any harder to install than a preformed shower surround and it’s a lot more versatile.

John I know you said in the other thread you were in bad pain from all the hard labor lately. I hope things work out where your work load can be lifted as that's not a good situation and I can relate as my chiro could've put a down payment on a yacht with all the times I went to him due to my hard labor years back. Just remember it's better to get paid well and be hurting from your stressful job than not having one at all and losing everything like a lot of folks have gone through lately. Stay grateful and remember God will work things out for you and your family. Is advice I need to take as well.
