I’m on “vacation” in Texas.  Today we visited my FIL in a nursing home. Bummer.  He’s slowly fading.   Now the memsahib is depressed.  Spent the rest of the day shopping and eating.  Visited a favorite Mex place for lunch and had good Vietnamese food for dinner.  Now I’m drinking Shiner Bock and smoking Mac Baren’s Navy blend on the porch while huge airliners roar overhead in the landing pattern here.

I think I just killed a correl snake. It was only about 12 inches long and maybe 1/2 in diameter. Never seen anything like it and I've dealt with a lot of different snakes in my life. I probably would have tried to just get it out of the fenced part of the yard but my dogs were all around at the time.

I spent most of the day moving and setting up my Logosol F2+ sawmill. This is the best location I've put it in yet with nice solid flat-ish ground. It's in 4m configuration right now, but I'd like to set it up in full 6m configuration before too long. Might make some sawdust today after I run some errands.

After physical therapy we took our friends, who are here visiting, sailing.  We were out most the day until we found a nice cove where we dropped the hook and had lunch.  The wives where tired so they went below for naps and we were treated to low flying fighter jets, transports, and harrier.  A great day on the water

Not quite the same, but I saw a Northern Harrier the other day while I was casting. I heard it flying over/screeching and looked up and caught our resident female raven chasing it off. We also have some sharp shinned hawks that stay up here year round, but they seem to get along with the resident ravens.

I spent the day trying to not step on my BIL’s toes.  We’re cleaning out his father’s house and he was very prickly about my being there.  I get it.  He doesn’t want any of his father’s possessions passing out of his family.  I’m the same way about my stuff.  So I had to pretend disinterest in everything and give him a wide berth.  In the end he wore himself out following us around and trying to claim every loose item before my wife did.  We waited until he left and then the memsahib picked a few items she wanted for sentimental reasons.

After another few hours of final setup on my mill, dialing everything in I'm satisfied and will start really producing some sawdust. My big mill saw fired right up and just took some slight low side and idle adjustments. Usually for the small stuff I use a 16" bar and cheap Arrow brand chinese ripping chain, but today I got out my shiny Tsumura bar, bar nose steering, and "fancy" Stihl low profile ripping chain. I only ripped a small test log into a 4x4, well a 4 x 3 3/4" since my log beds weren't totally dialed in yet. Tomorrow I have to finish some school work, but I'm going to polish up some chains and rip the handful of logs I have on hand. After I clean up my small log stack we are going to start putting posts in the ground for a greenhouse/winter extension for the chicken aviary.

I've been attempting to work (IT issues on my new and defective workstation), combined with a neutron-star style black hole of assistance from the dealer we bought our Hybrid Tahoe from.  DMV has no record of our purchase over 3 weeks ago, my warranty papers never showed up, and a check engine light came on.

I spent yesterday reassembling the mostly-disassembled front end of the CR-V since my wife needed to get to work.  Sonja said she'd take the 86 F-150 but it has no tunes and no AC.  Heh, the CR-V is driving better now- I found some interesting "assembly techniques" on the CR-V but fixed those and it drives much better.

The dealership is working on making things right.  I told them don't care how they do it, just to do it and do it ASAP.

And then there's my new Lenovo workstation.  Don't.  Get.  Me.  Started.      I'm using my old workstation for the moment and it has a VPN connection to our local stuff but nothing on Azure Active Directory; all the USB ports are dead, the HDMI is dead, and the ultra-mega-glare reflective screen it came with is annoying AF.  There's a reason the machine is getting replaced but at least it boots up.  More than I can say for the brand new Lenovo- a $2k dev machine with superlative specs that has been in my possession less than 4 weeks & is already dead.  I'm keeping a positive view: it revealed numerous opportunities for the IT team to improve processes.  Processes they apparently did not take into consideration since I'm still effectively out of commission for productivity.  That's okay, I'll get paid to watch YouTube, order various repair parts on Amazon, and check out the latest things from Duluth and Darn Near Kilt 'Em.

Today I moved my equipment around, built a new log table, and made one 4x4 on the mill. Need to tweak the rail a touch on the end, I'm 1/8" out of square on one end and 1/16" on the other. I want to be at +/- 1/32, but will settle for 1/16" on both ends. I've got two easily accessible logs, but I'll be processing some felled trees soon. I have a few dozen around the property from the last year or so I need to clean up.

I had no intention of cutting my yard today, none what so ever.  I just wanted to cut the wooded area all along the back. One thing lead to another, finished one section, then another and another and another. Dang I just finished cutting 5.5 acres.

They wiggled and threw a hissy fit at first; but calmed down pretty quick and started looking around and tasting the air while I was carrying them down to the creek-then got all excited again as I lowered them to the ground, LOL...
