Just picked up another weekend mowing job. Preparing for supplementing retirement next year.

Sounds like a good plan to me, Bill.  I'm slowly accruing the equipment I need for similar.  Kris' testimony on the BCS equipment has me thinking about a sickle-bar mower and walk-behind tractor.  Edging ditches alone could net me enough work to bail out from my day-job.

Speaking of...  Kris, getting old is a pain the backside, but it beats the alternative.  My girlfriend is looking at a veneer for one of her teeth and yowza, we're talking maybe a Christmas, birthday, and anniversary present all rolled in one.  She did mention something about "... or maybe a Leshiy 2..." which would be less costly.

This one set me back $900, the wingshot and ammo for it is out for now. If the "stimulus check" does come out, that bill be first to get paid. I was looking for a bushhog for my compact tractor, well that got put on hold as well. If it has tires or teeth, it's gonna be trouble.

I bought a camo case for mine thinking it was a cool idea..... not so much.... I spend alot of time looking for it... 

Mine is too.

Hiking back from my tree stand one night I dropped my camo flashlight.  It landed on the on-off button and went out.  I hunted for it for ten minutes by the light of my cellphone.  No luck.  I spent the next half hour walking into trees and stumbling over stumps before eventually finding my way back to my truck.  I now carry two flashlights and a head lamp with me hunting and NONE of them are camo.

My headlamp went out on me the other night stalking for hogs so I had to use my phone light to get back home. I'm going to carry my other headlamp with me in case that happens again.


Yesterday I got my sealed trans fluid changed and was happy to pay $90 in labor for not having to get under the car to do it myself with a busted rib. I was able to change the coolant myself today since that was much easier to do from under the hood. Removed the pads on one wheel to check for even wear since the previous pads were uneven and all is well so I cleaned the caliper and pads then reinstalled.

beautiful day so i thought i'd go fishing.  nothing on the fly using poppers, so i brought out the ultra light spinning kit and with a 1/32 oz red and white tube jig found the crappies about 4 feet down.  they were hitting on the drop.  6 good sized crappies, 1 white bass, 1 gill, and 5 small large mouths.  the crappies would have been dinner, but i failed to bring a bucket with me. 


lots of fun on a 5' ultra light and 2lb test line. 


forecast is 85* this saturday so i'm defrosting squirrel innards for catfish'n.

Finally, finally finished painting the house, the garage, and the airgun shed. Took almost 30 gallons of Sherwin Williams paint. $$$$$ plus 100 miles round-trip multiple times to buy the paint and supplies.

Roofs fine right now. The whole thing started with a leaking gutter over the back door.That led to all new gutters on the house, garage and shed. Before installing the new gutters I had to paint the facia boards which led to painting the house, garage, and shed. A month and a half later and many$k it's finished.lol Now, I need to install the hardware cloth around the bottom of the front porch and the shed to keep the dogs out from under them along with snakes.

After my wife got wind of me gifting to myself  -for reaching a new decade- a move up from break barrel to PCP  (that included a pre-order for an Avenger in .22, whiuch she knew, but also a Yong Heng compressor, SCBA tank, hand pump, a few lbs of pellets, plus plenty of small accessories that I saw no reason to bring up in the conversation...), I am now working on a installing a brand new kitchen...
Today was mud and sanding day on the ceiling, because this time, we ditch all texture and are going with a semi gloss baby b.tt smooth/no texture white on walls as ceiling.
4  turns of mudding/sanding and I'm almost satisfied. I'm not OCD but anal. please don't confuse the two, I do have my pride 
Oh man... What is going to happen when she discovers I have plans for a Benjamin Akela for Christmas....

The critters stay busy at my place. Got my trailcam pics from my sd cards. Click pics to enlarge. This deer was curious of my mole trap yet wary. Shame a mole hadn't been caught right beforehand because the deer likely would have been captured jumping backward in terror.




Big 200lb+ hog in the creek is almost waist high to me. I want this one dead as it does deep yard damage. There are several others around lately rooting up the creek also.




This bobcat is knee high to me and fed good at around 40lbs. I have another smaller one around too possibly it's mate.




Hawk flying away hopefully with a rat or mole.

I have to get a game cam right away, on the southeast corner of the property there have been tracks and what looks like where a mountain lion or two have been laying down. I am not an expert in tracks but it looks about the size of my Great Dane or bigger.

I've had em on my place and so have my neighbors, black panthers have been seen around too. I wish more were around again as I could use all the help I can get killing these hogs. Post a picture of the tracks if you can and maybe you'll get a positive ID from someone here.

You can get a Spypoint trail cam for around $90 at Academy, Gander and local outfitters that carry them. Get a class 10 micro sd card 32gb or smaller for less than $20 at Office Max or Best Buy. Insert the sd card into the cam, mount the cam where you want it. Download their app onto your phone then activate the camera using the app. Then turn on the camera and let it load up a couple minutes and it will send a test picture. If you need to turn the camera for a better picture then do so and pass your hand in front of the cam to send another picture. When you like how it's aimed then adjust the camera settings with the phone app to your liking and you're set. I prefer pic delay to every 10 seconds, on high sensitivity, fast trigger speed and high res pictures at night, then low sensitivity and pics delay every 30 minutes during daytime.

Keep your dog inside and monitored while carrying a pistol outside with dog. If it is cougars they study your habits with the dog to plan a most likely successful attack on the dog when they see you go inside as I think it was someone here who said they attacked his dog right when he closed the door and took off with it before he could get his gun where he believed they studied his habits with the dog for days to know right when to safely get it and escape. 

I forgot you get the first month free no matter how many pics it takes, then each month you get 100 pics free with optional pay plans for higher amounts of pictures per month, starting at 250 pics on up. Pay per year instead of per month and rate is a little cheaper. Animal recognition is available for $99 annually to specify between deer, hog, coyote ect but I don't use it.

Careful what you wish for... The Hunter may become the Hunted.... Not just dogs. A co-worker of mine was mauled by a cougar while hunting in yellowstone.

One of the perks of retirement is that I can mow any day of the week, with the exception of Sunday.  Before retiring I would have to wait till the weekend now I just wait till it needs cutting.  LOL
With the cool mornings and lower temperatures along with the season change approaching my grass has finally slowed its growth.  I love to mow but I'm ready for a break.

I just finished the yard.  Edged the walks and driveway.  Then I mowed damp grass - later it will be dry; but later it will also be much hotter here.  Then the whole place got a blow job leaf blower treatment.

Got all 13 - 15 acres done in just over 3 hours. It was lower and dryer than the two times before. I just may be able to skip a week next time. The neighbor does like to keep her grass low. She says she can see the snakes better.

WOW!!!
That's one fast mower. I can cut 5 acres in 3.25 hours and I thought that was fast.
