In his hayday he was about 6'9" and over 500 lbs. His is a card carrying redneck. There are firsthand stories of him grabbing a pool table and flipping it upside down in a bar fight. There are other rumored stories of things I won't discuss here.
He has a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back but, I would not to get on the wrong side of him. He may be bedridden but he has a telephone and he knows many, many people of the not so friendly type.

Yesterday I took delivery of my new-to-me Honda Odyssey.  I thought my Volvo drove nice... This thing kicks that to the curb.  Anyway, got up this morning; Sonja and I ate breakfast, then decided on a run to Ikea in Norfolk.  We spent a couple hours in Ikea considering home improvement ideas, then as we left, I offered to show her my first house.  "Only 15 minutes away..."  So we drove to Virginia Beach.

Well, lemme tell ya, the couple that bought the house REALLY have taken great care of it.  The yard looks as good as it did when I lived there, only the plants are more mature and more full.  Clearly well-taken-care off, so I felt a bit of pride they continued what I started.

As we left, I remarked that Sonja's flip-flops are some old castaways of mine.  They work, but are worn.  And we pondered how she didn't have any good swim trunks.  Canoeing, lake-play, and paddle-boarding requires more athletic stuff than a bikini.  Anyway, surf shops were 15 minutes away, down at the oceanfront.

Fifteen minutes later...   She got some new flip-flops and some good trunks.  Well, ya know, I was braggin' about knowing all the free parking spots only locals would know about, so I had to prove my local's knowledge, and yup, the spots were still there.  Geez, ya know, we're there at the oceanfront, she has some nice board-shorts, I'm already wearing swim-trunk style shorts.

Long story short, we played in the ocean for an hour or so, then headed home.  The boys texted us when we were about 10 minutes away saying they hoped we didn't mind they borrowed my truck, did a dump-run, and were now washing/waxing everything.  The truck looks like it rolled off the showroom floor 20 days ago, not 20 years.

Geez, life ain't bad at all, ya know?

Our honda CRV rides and handles so nice plush when you need it like a sports car when you want. That AWD is like glue in all conditions.

His stove, not so much. Charred and 2 knobs melted off.

Once my wife was melting candle wax on the stove top for a craft project she was working on and it caught fire. She quickly moved it to the kitchen sink (good) then she turned on the water (BAD) the curtains above the sink were immediately on fire to the ceiling. Then she yanked them down into the sink and got it out eventually. Afterward she said I knew better than to try to extinguish a wax fire with water but just did it anyway, like I couldn't stop myself.

Sounds like my elderly uncle who was a bar bouncer back in the day but he was only 6'2" and 350lbs. Now he uses his mower for a wheelchair as he can barely walk around without falling. Saw him stuck out in the sun waving at me as I drove by so I stopped to see how he needed help. Said he'd been in the sun for hours roasting in the sun and couldn't get the mower started so I brought him a cold drink, helped him get it started then he got in the shade and cooled off. Good way to stroke out on a 97 degree sunny day so I'm glad I saw him waving at me for help instead of driving by without seeing him.


Peter I hope you didn't get one that looks like these year models because the transmissions go out every 40k or less due to their flawed design yet Honda does not cover the replacement despite them losing a lawsuit over it. I found that out the hard way after replacing transmissions on mine twice. The most I could get them to cover was half the expense and that was after fighting with them to do so both times which was over $1k out of pocket each time. I swore off Honda after that but the later models were better from what I've heard. I just saw one on the side of the road today. I bet it was the trans that went out on them.

Got an interesting call tonight  from and elderly man I have known and admired for over 50 years.
Gary went to school with my Mom. His wife and Mom were best friends then and still are today.
 See Gary's one of the original Hot Rodders who's getting long in the tooth. I pitted for his blown Mopar F.E.D. in the 70's.
 So he calls me tonight out of the blue and asks if I am still into old motorcycles. I said "SURE!" wondering what he needed.
Just the opposite.

He still has his old bike and wants it to go to someone who will appreciate it.
 Soooo.... I am getting an old skool Long Bike.
 I remember it as a kid. Classic '60's Chopper. Metal flake blue Triumph Trident!

It's been stored in the attic for about 40 years.
He is gathering all the parts and giving it to me only asking to get to ride it when I am done if he isn't in a wheel chair.
