Didn’t get much done today. Cleaned up my mower, 54” Big Dog Alpha MP and took it to the tractor dealer to trade it in on a 60” Hustler FasTrak. They said they’ve never seen one come back that nice. I keep it clean and it sits in the garage between cuts. They want $500 and the trade. They left me hanging over 250 bucks. Trailered the Big Dog back home & it’s been raining since. They’ll probably call me tomorrow. I’m going to shoot tomorrow at sunup.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.  We don’t know what’s causing the racing.  As of now we think it’s stress/anxiety.  EKG and blood tests show nothing other than an elevated heart rate.  Have to go to the heart Dr. to check more into it.  The gendoc wasn’t too concerned.  We will be proactive and see the ❤️ dr.  In the meantime it’s stills occurring.

My heart rate would increase too if I have a new FX coming to my door

It’s my wife’s heart that keeps racing.  She had a better night last night after a trying day.  I hope she has another good nights sleep.  I’m back to work tomorrow to start another week of lots of OT.

Went grocery shopping and found stores devoid of any paper products due to hoarding. No flour either. 
Daughter says people stuck at home are baking a lot.  People are going to gain weight over the next few months.

Here they put limits on stuff after they noticed the hoarding. Which seemed to help a lot. But I did notice alot of baking supplies pallets out. Flour/Sugar.

Fishing Merritt Reservoir in the Nebraska Sandhills last 2 days. Targeted walleye, pike, muskie. Saw turkeys, prairie chickens, sharp tail grouse, pheasants, mule deer, antelope and dozens of species of waterfowl. Took a back road home from Dunning, Ne. to Arnold, Nebraska.  It's an old, 1 lane oil road in the middle of nowhere. It's also the location of some serious, world class time trial racing every year. People come from all over the USA to race there. They close it off, race vs. the clock. Some pro classes are +100mph.   I wasn't comfortable going over 50mph in my 2018 Grand Cherokee. The Nebraska Sandhills, social distancing at it's finest.

Ouch, here we are seeing not much change.  Then again, the lower population may be a factor.


I just took my dog for a walk. I wish she didn't pull on the trails. Started to get a little unsafe walking on the shoulder.

For my "lunch" I went and administered Pixie's IV- for a 10 year old Boston Terrier with cancer and kidney disease, she was her old self, meaning acting like a 5 year old Boston.  The IV and special food are helping.  The Wife is still struggling with the potential loss of her furbaby, but as I told her, appreciate every day and let Pixie be herself.

I stopped by the local Sheetz on the way home and bought a few energy drinks and some Sheetz-food.  I know the folks in there and am considered a "regular".  We chatted a bit and they remarked that sales are down in general, but that was expected.

While at The Wife's, I picked up my 6-foot ladder and a pair of draw knives.  The axe handle I bought for my Kelley Perfect is a bit thick, so I'll need to shave some material off for a half-decent fit.  I'm unimpressed with the handle but it was cheap and will hold me over until I find a truly nice piece of hickory.  The new handle is a generalist "axe" handle.  The old one had a fine sweep and taper-really set up as a felling axe and it worked splendid.  Both draw knives date from ~ 1880 or so.  I have 2 others that hearken back from even further.

I still haven't pumped up the Leshiy- maybe tomorrow, but it's raining and I'm not overly concerned. 

Other stuff?  Ate Pop-Tarts for dinner with an Aztec (a tequila Paloma with added ginger beer and a splash of triple sec) for desert.

I tore into the electric starter on my New to me KTM 625 sxc. I traded my 98 CBR1100XX to my son for it. He had been messing around trying to get the electric starter working so he replaced the sprauge clutch but installed it backwards not knowing it could be. So I went and removed the side cover and the flywheel to find yes, the clutch was indeed installed backwards but in his defense I had to do so modding to get it to install correctly. So, I button it up and hit the starter button to make sure it all works ok. GRIND!!! WTH??? pull it back apart and start spinning the reducton gears and things just don't feel right so I pulled the inner cover off. 

This is what I find!! $$$$$$

I still want an early '90s CB1000 "Big One". Have since they were new. I currently have 4 of my 7 bikes I would put in trade.

The 2 intermediate gears are bad also. $351 for replacement parts. I could never use the CBR where I live now. 5 miles of dirt road to get to my house and a 4 wheel drive is nesasary some times

Hate to say it, but dang... that is a lot of steel in the oil.

Oil has been drained and will be changed within a few miles again to flush all of that crud out. The Magnetic drain plug had a lot of the shavings out it and the bike has a micro oil filter to remove the fine stuff. Now I need to tear into the FCR carb and figure out why the float needle seeps.

Has she tried cbd oil to help her calm down? I got some about a month ago. 1200mg bottle from Sunsoil and it helps with my body pain and stress. Caffeine from coffee, sodas, chocolates and some fast foods will cause heart racing.


Today after blowing almost $400 to fix my pc I shot it's old hard drive that went bad with 4 shells of buckshot so there's nothing left of it but scraps. Almost got the mower stuck again and now I have two racing stripes about 20ft long from it in the yard. Pulled a few more vines off trees which are poison ivy I found out after yet another rash from it so I handled them properly for a change and am on steroids again to get the poison out of my system. Found a water leak in my yard so a plumber will fix it tomorrow hopefully but I shut off the water valve in the mean time.

Been meaning to build a drill press stand for a while now.  Seems like now is the best time to do it with everything that's going on.  For now, I just have a Ryobi benchtop drill press.  I think it's a 10" or some such.
 So anyhoo, I built the stand, 15" wide, 24" deep and 32" tall with a "shelf" in the middle.  The shelf is there more for stiffness than as a shelf.  I added some heavy duty leveling feet, as my workshop floor isn't perfectly flat.  I also added some heavy duty workbench castors- the kind that lift up the workbench 3/4" or so, then drop it down when you flip the levers up.  This way, I can move it around, but when I drop it, it's solid and doesn't wiggle.  I haven't decided if I'm going to add drawers and how many...  Come to think of it, I'll probably add at least one drawer for all my drill bits, forstner and spade bits.

My next project will be a drill press table, in which I'll move the column lock from the back out to the side, and the Z-axis crank to the front.  This way, I don't have to reach around back to lock, or worry about whether I have enough clearance for the hand crank to adjust the height (which would limit the table size).  I can also get rid of that rinky-dink column lock.  For the Z-axis handle, I'll probably find a crank handle that is designed to be removed, so I don't have to worry about the handle getting in the way (like with a milling vise- handle comes off once tightened).  I haven't decided whether or not I'll add some t-track, but I probably will.  T-track clamps look like they'd be pretty handy to clamp stuff down.  There will also be a sacrificial piece in the middle for the drill bit to go into when drilling.  That'll probably be a disc, as I can just spin it around as it gets chewed up.  Then I can flip it over.  That way, each sacrificial piece lasts as long as possible.  I haven't decided whether or not I'll make a fence.  But if I do install t-tracks, it'll be easy to add a fence later, should I find that I need one. 

I'm also gearing up to start working on my Ford truck, a '97 F250 Diesel 4x4.  I'm going to be swapping out the axles and springs so I can get a comfier ride.  If any of you have ever ridden in one, you know these trucks will beat you to death.  I know it's a truck and not a Cadillac, but modern trucks with leaf springs are not NEARLY as bad as the older generations.  I'm not getting any younger, and my back certainly isn't getting any better.  Anyhoo, the plan is:

-  Swap the twin I-beam Dana 50 for a solid Dana 60
-  Install a shackle reverse kit
-  Use 99+ Superduty springs.  They're longer and tempered differently, and will give a softer ride than the original springs. 
-  Swap out the rear axle.  I bought the Dana 60 w/the matching rear axle.  I'm not sure what the gear ratio is for my current axles, and to make things easy I'm just going to swap in the matching axle.
-  Use '08+ Superduty springs in the rear.  Again, the newer springs are longer, feel softer and change the suspension geometry enough to give a much smoother ride than the original springs.  All without sacrificing payload capacity.
-  Replace the original transfer case shift lever w/a new one.  They're not serviceable, and mine is broken because either the prior owner, or a tire kicker didn't realize the shifter is a "push down to unlock" variety, and thus broke the shifter trying to put it into 4wd.    

I'll also be doing any needed maintenance (bearings, seals, etc.), installing new brakes and such.  There's other work I plan on doing to the truck, but that's the major work.  Anyhoo, just thought I'd share.  Not like I really have anything else to do. 

Ah poop.  I guess I could do an oil change on the mower and start moving stuff to the shed
