Dentist, post office, and then we both needed new phones.  Ive been holding off for years, but really needed a new one.  Then we bought a new router because we kept losing internet connection.  Also a new blue ray player.

I broke my only pair of eyeglasses on Sunday.  I can't drive but I still have to go to work.    So I 'm stuck in the Ranger Station today.  We call it the "penalty box".  However I can still see targets through a scope so when I get home ...

Yesterday was fun.  New drier vent tube, and this rental house has one of those idiotic "laundry closets" with bi-fold doors.  I got really good at replacing those when I worked for Sears; the closet is inboard, not an external wall, so this weekend I need to get down into the crawl and disconnect/clean as needed. 

After that, I stripped the caulk (or what was left) from the sliding shower doors, dried it out, and recaulked it properly.  The jackleg that did it last needs a solid punch in the face.  And while at it, I fixed all the brightwork for hanging bathroom linens since it was all rattling and loose.  Same jackleg responsible, I'm sure.  Then gave it all a proper cleaning since the aforementioned jackleg clearly did not understand the concept of cleaning.

Then on to the rower for 30 minutes, then back to the bathroom to replace the failing GFCI while cooling down.

Cooked dinner- taters, turkey "Better Cheddar" links, and some Greek-seasoned pan-grilled asparagus.  Yummy!  Relaxed for a spell, showered, and then off to bed.

Today....  gonna run out and get some black oil sunflower seeds.  The cardinals have taken note of my empty feeders and are curious.  Haven't seen any squirrels last couple days- maybe they know wassup?  If it stops raining, I'll be breaking out the Kelley Perfect and dropping 5 small trees.

Got a new intake filter and hydro shield for the car today plus new shoes for the car as well. This is why I buy Pilot Sport 4S. Despite a 1ft long leaking bubble on the RR that's 3" wide and 2" high, plus radials showing on all tires I had no blowouts. New set cost over $1k but dependable safety is worth the price.

WOW.. Here your car would be pulled off the road, and ticketed. I wouldn't be proud that you let the tires get that bad. It's like my father. 9 year old tires, decided to tow his Harley from Ontario to NB, all his ammo, and guns. Got 30 mins down the highway before a blow out. Complete separation. Sure he tire shined the outside, never the inside and was dry rotted.

I'm lucky I didn't get a ticket. Not proud at all since it could have cost my life, just grateful they didn't blow. They weren't like that a month ago when I checked them at low tread so now inspections will be weekly when tread is anything below half before they even get low.

Back when I rode murdersickles I only ran the best rubber.  Pirelli's or Meztlers in those days.  When you've only got two tires they better be sticky.

Only airgun surfing today.  Ended up working a double shift.  Here til 11pm tonight.  I have another one scheduled for Saturday.  3 day weekend here I come!

As much as I wanted to do airgun stuff, it was raining almost all day... but ti was also warm out- ~ 60.  So... I have 5 less trees behind the house I rent.  Apparently I still remember enough of the stuff my father taught me eons ago about proper felling - dropped all of them clean.  Had to thread the needle twice so I wouldn't drop either 35 foot holly on the staircase leading to the back door.  Four of those trees were hollys (2 were little 20 footers) and 1 was a red gum stick- only about 4 inches in diameter.  Still have 3 more but those have some interference with each other.  Probably have to drop 2 at once (one is hickory the other a red gum) but I have a clear path IF they come down together- and both of them are only 5 or 6 inches in diameter- which will leave the final one pretty easy to fell.

My Kelley Perfect axe is a joy to use, but what really saved my bacon is my great grandfather's 36" crosscutting timbersaw.  I put a 4-way "grind" on the teeth manually with a millcut file a few years ago and holy smokes, I forgot how fast it cuts!  It might not cut quite like a modern tuttletooth or perforated-lance tooth, but for the age (1920s) it really does the job.

Otherwise, used a landscaping rake to pull a bunch of debris out of the feeder that leads into the creek- also trenched under a deadfall and let waterflow clear a new path  notably further away from my driveway.  I'm utterly worn out and sore- came in and showered, then took a nap.  I woke up a short while ago to grab a snack, and while eating, I was reminded how much I love doing this type of work.

Those last 3 trees were not easy.  Couldn't drop the 2 together- angles were wrong once I measured.  Threaded the needle on both (had an 8 foot wide "alley"), then had to drop the real beast- a 60 foot gum no more than 10" diameter.  Darn thing looked like spaghetti for 50 feet of it, then the top was a mess of dead creeper and tangled mast.  It came down clean ALMOST- then hung on a dead branch at a 45* angle.

I used my crosscut saw and honked out some notches, then carefully used my axe to break each section.  I watched my father do this technique eons ago and thought it was sketchy as F-word but lo and behold, worked and far more safe than I expected once I measured where to cut.  The Pythagorean Theorem saved the day- never thought I'd use algebra to take some trees down.  Anyway...

After washing up I headed over to the The Wife's house (my old Squirrel Burial Grounds) and fixed her dresser.  >sigh< she spent the entire time fiddling with her instabook or facegram or snaptweet account.  It is what it is; I wrapped up, headed back home and grabbed Italian along the way.  I'm sore and too darn old to be acting like I'm a  25 year old lumberjack felling trees with an axe and cutting up logs with a timber saw, because I am certainly NOT!

Still haven't picked up any birdseed- had several cardinals making a racket out back- sitting on the feeders just giving me looks.  They must think I'm teasing 'em

Peter,  You make me envious.  I've broken my only glasses and I'm on light duty awaiting rotator cuff surgery.  All that chopping and hacking with dirty great axes sounds like fun!

All this tree cutting talk reminds me I need to get my 32ton log splitter fixed. I couldn't get the engine started when I tried last year despite putting new gas in the tank. It would only briefly run on brake cleaner sprayed into the carb then quit.

Glad to have new shoes installed on the car today and driving well thru flooded roads as it flooded bad in the area with many roads having big creeks rushing over them and some roads closed. I have a section of ground washed away from under my fence due to the flood so I need to fix that before the wild boar find their way in. Walked out in the rain with my slicker keeping most of it off me to take several videos of all the flooded creeks flowing through my property since I've never done that before. One creek was around 60ft across and knee deep where normally it's dry ground. The 3ft deep creek channels in my neighbor's yard were filled and flowing fast where normally they are dry as well. Was hoping to spot hogs to kill since they love foraging in the rain but none were around.

   In our basement, I started setting up our fluorescent 8 T5 bulb light fixtures for starting our veggie garden plants in a week or so from seed for our cabbage, broccoli, etc. Tomatoes & other warm weather seedlings will be planted later. Our old fixture bit the dust after 9 years.

I shot a new to me Remington 572 pump .22 that my dad gave me as a late Christmas gift. I loaded and shot 5 rounds and walked back to the house to put it away. Right as I walked into the house the gun started to come apart in my hands. The barrel lock screw was gone. It cost nearly $20 to order a replacement for that little screw. I was not happy.  I had noticed a little wiggle in the barrel and lightly tried to tighten the screw with my swiss army knife. I didn't want to mar the screw so I didn't try too hard, but it didn't try to turn.

Working the weekend, came home this afternoon and cleaned up some more of the yard, this last front has blown stuff all over the yard again. Starting to clear out places for fruit trees.

I bought some material to build some storage cabinets in the shop.  I started cutting some of the plywood today and have one of the shelves built.  I hope,to have it completed this weekend.  We shall see.

I would help ya if we were neighbors Robert.  We could bust it out pretty quick. 

The cabinet I’m making is 8’ wide and 7’ tall with 4 full height doors.  It a really basic unit built right to the walls of the shop.  I’ll show pictures once it’s complete.  The plan is to store dry goods, paper goods, bulk items and maybe some small appliances that aren’t used everyday.  Our house was built in 1930 and any sort of closet/storage space was NOT much of a consideration when it was built.  We are a large family (10 with 9 still in the house) and storage is tight.  Moving many of these larger, less used items will be VERY helpful in freeing up needed space for those things that we do use everyday.  I’m really excited to get things moved in and rearranged, it will be a relief.

The 60ft wide flood flowing to the right across the creek and all of it's debris carried with it bundled up against my recently fixed barb wire fence and pushed it over some. When the ground gets dry enough I need to push down 10ft long pipes 5ft into the ground to use as fence posts so they will never tip again. Some wire broke too but that's mainly because it's a old section of it. Had some ground wash away under another fence not pictured so since the ground was too wet to use the tractor today I placed a literal ton of big tree pieces and limbs there lifted by hand to help slow the future flow and keep hogs from coming in there.

Heating a cup of coffee in the microwave and it shorted inside and started on fire.  Unplugged and threw it out in the yard. Going shopping tomorrow for a new one.  First one I had lasted 25 years. Latest one lasted 18 months.
