Drove to the VA in Augusta round trip today. 233 miles. I wish I was younger again it, wouldn't have been any thing, but now.... let's just say I am tired and sore.

replaced the water wasp traps with new ones and added a second fly trap outside.  Its amazing how many wasps and flies these things get.

Weather (dew point) is a LOT nicer here as well!   Fans in the windows all night long and outside temp is 65°F right now at my house.  (smile)

Inside temp is still 76° though...  (sigh)

We dropped our oldest 2 daughters (18, 20) off at the airport this morning for a flight to San Francisco to visit their older brother (22). 
After that my wife and I headed to a coffee shop in Georgetown.  We hung out there for a bit talking and had a little walk around the block.
 
Next up was a stop at TSC for some cracked corn and layer pellets.  We found a cute ladies sleeveless button up shirt on the clearance rack for $8.50.  Walked next door to the dollar store and bought a few fall decorations.  I was looking for a fly swatter.
 
Then we headed up the hill and I dropped her off to get a haircut and I ran over to Costco and got that shopping done.  Picked my bride up and headed back down the hill to fill up the van with gas (Costco fuel was closed for remodeling) and pick up some fixings for lunch to hold us over until she could head back out tomorrow to get the regular grocery store shopping done. 

I took a short nap then, got ready to come into work where I am currently until 11 pm.  One more shift to go (Saturday) then I get to have a 3 day weekend myself.

Try those big rat glue traps. I've caught over 50 wasps on those things.

Gil, it’s amazing how many wasps were in the water traps I refreshed.  On the package it says that 1/2” of wasps settled in the bottom is approximately 300 wasps.  I set out 4 traps for about 4-5 weeks and each trap had 2-2.5” of wasps settled in the bottom!  So just say 2” each trap x 300/.5” = 1200 wasps per trap x 4 traps = 4800 wasps!!!  Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. 

We started setting out wasps traps a few years ago when we had one of our bee hives raided by wasps.  We set out the regular (non water) traps early in the spring and then switch over to the water traps in July/August when the weather is dry and the wasps are looking for water.  It has helped quite a bit.  Now if I could just get my neighbors surrounding me on board with placing traps on their properties, we could really reduce these things around here.

Awesome! With that huge amount of wasps around you have a serious population of insects that will now grow even larger so I'd highly recommend spreading insect killer on your property which will kill them where the remaining wasps will relocate elsewhere looking for insects.

I never had luck with water traps like you have regardless of whatever bait I tried be it pheromones, sweets, protein ect. There is plenty of water around nearby for them to get where they feel no need to hunt for it here. I just used the water to drown them once inside the traps. I had best luck with gallon jugs drilling a hole in the lids but it was always just a few killed. I had way more success walking up to them while hunting in the grass for bugs and spraying them with the water hose nozzle where they couldn't fly away then stomping/smearing them. I killed over a 50 a day doing that years ago.

Betty Lou and I took the little fishing boat out on the County Lake for a few hours this morning. She fished and I tinkered with the new fish finder. Had a few bites and caught one small sunfish.
Gonna do a final oil and filter change on the 4 wheeler after swamping it a couple weeks ago.
Gonna settle in and watch the race this evening. Maybe some more fishing tomorrow morning and 4 wheeling in the afternoon.
