I Bought a Buck 673 off their web specials page a few weeks back and have been patiently ( yeah right I'm never patient ) waiting for the piece of American black walnut I ordered to arrive.Out of the boxAnd here's where I'm currently at with the rehandle. After I finish the handle it'll just be time to make a left handed leather sheath for it.
Heat was too much for me today. I quit after only an hour of cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood. Spent the rest of the day cutting mortises for my latest outdoor bench project.
I could use a lefthanded sheath. How difficult is it to make?
The house AC decided not to cool at all yesterday. Investigation found the capacitor had died. Stopped at three places this morning to find a replacement and now we're back in modern air conditioned living. This AC is ancient and I almost shudder at the thought of replacing it. I say almost, because if it did kick the bucket I'd just buy another one or two window units, set them up and think about my options. I don't relish telling someone to get lost if they try to quote me a 5 ton unit for a house that might do fine with 1.5 tons, so there may some DIY in the future here. When I built the addition, I buried 1200 feet of 1" poly pipe under the dirt I displaced in anticipation of a chance to try out a ground sourced heat pump scheme. The pipe only cost me $300 at the time--I was already moving the dirt. I laid it out in four parallel independent circuits of about 300 feet each and figured it might just be enough to do the job. Of course, at the time, I was reading about ice storage air condition systems too...We don't make the house an ice box like some do, but when the lying thermostat says its 82 degrees in the house, it is a little warm--sweat after a meal or when trying to get dressed for something special. This thermostat always reads high, so normal programming is 78 degrees. Any lower it would feel too cool in the house.
And make one using paper first to get the pattern right before cutting into any leather.
Went back to work after lunch and got feeling real bad... Decided to come home and lay down. Just got back up a few minutes ago and I feel much better.
