Who Owns a Dreamline and How is it Doing?

Hello GTA Peoples,

Simple question.  If you own a Dreamline, how is it?  Likes, dislikes, accuracy, and performance?

I have the Dreamline Classic in .25 with the Black Pepper Laminate stock.  This is by far the nicest air rifle I have ever owned.  Now, this is also the only high end air rifle I own, other than the Evanix Air Speed, which I consider a fail in comparison for an air rifle at this price point!  I got it in .25 because the .25 and .30 models come with a higher capacity air cylinder.  Once available, I will be getting the .22 barrel kit and it will probably stay in the .22 configuration for most of it's life since that's mainly what I shoot the most. 

Accuracy is spot on, the action is buttery smooth and it looks phenomenal!  This is the only air rifle I own or have owned that I have had to do absolutely nothing to since I purchased it.  Yes, it is highly tweakable, but I have not touched a single setting since I've gotten it because it's been perfect right out of the box. It will consistently stack pellets one on top of another at 40 years and does it with ease.  It's almost made target shooting boring... 

Early on I had a slight issue with the trigger resetting after I took a shot, but that may have been something that was hanging when it was new and it seems to have worked itself out since I have not experienced it at all lately.  I did make a slight adjustment to the trigger that was recommended by Matt at JSAR, but it was maybe a ¼ turn at the most and I don't even recall which adjustment it was.  In any event, it's fixed and I haven't experienced it since..

The .25 caliber Dreamline does have the longer 600mm barrel and others have reported issues with the barrel drooping.  I have not experienced this, but, when I purchased mine from JSAR, Matt worked directly with FX to get one with the tightest fitting barrel they could find.  The barrel will move slightly, but it does not droop and touch the air cylinder when horizontal, even with the LDC attached.  I have slipped an o-ring onto the air cylinder to prevent the barrel from touching the air tube in the event I bounce it, but that was purely a precaution measure on my part.  I did order one of the FX Wildcat barrel bands from SMW Engineering, but this was because I wanted a way to attach a bi-pod without having to mess with putting a hole the stock.  I'm sure it will add some support to the barrel also, but that was not the reason for my purchase.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this rifle, and would not hesitate recommending it to others.

I have the 600mm .25 barrel. The droop is ridiculous. It is unusable with out a barrel band with the Donny FL. Whoever approved that for sale needs to quit their job.

The Ohio air gun barrel band left marks on my air tube from the untipped set screws.

The first one I received was defective and had to be returned.

The action is nice and smooth, and the gun is very light. That part is nice.

Currently waiting on a new scope for it since the one from pyramyd came bent thanks to Fedex.

Not just the gun, but nearly every aspect of using it has been very frustrating. Spending so much in scope rings to find some to fit the magazine, to the return delays, to the moderator/droop/flop issue. I wish I had not purchased it.

It's currently sitting scopeless and unused.

I did already see that, and while it seems to support a directly vertical condition, mine still flops severely side to side when not on a bipod or a shooting bag. I still find that behavior to be unacceptable. Same reason the oring supports are insufficient.

I've got the .22 Classic in walnut and it is still accurate as the day I first shot it. I use an o-ring to prevent the barrel from drooping and my POI is the same with or without the Donny moderator. I bought Streamline 10rd. mags to avoid the scope interference issue and they work just fine.

Maybe it's the scope I'm using (UTG 6-24X56) but I just have a set of standard tall 30mm dovetail rings and they give me ample clearance.

Love mine (DreamPup) from the shoulder pad to the tip of the DonnyFL!  Great out of the box, even better after tunes and mods!

I've got the .22 Classic in walnut and it is still accurate as the day I first shot it. I use an o-ring to prevent the barrel from drooping and my POI is the same with or without the Donny moderator. I bought Streamline 10rd. mags to avoid the scope interference issue and they work just fine.

I must just be exceptionally unlucky, because I also bought 10rd magazines and was told they would work by the vendor, and they would not fit in the breech, and returned them.

Oh well, hobbies aren't always sunshine and rainbows. I do plan to continue working on it. I would love to eventually go squirrel hunting with it.

I finally got a scope on my Dreamline Lite that I actually like - Athlon Talos 4-14x44 FFP APLR2

I got out and printed 5 groups of 5 shots at 25 yards that were all 1 ragged hole. Several of them had 3 shots in the original hole before shots 4 and 5 made it bigger.

Still using the Ohio Airguns barrel band until the snazzy one floats over the Atlantic to me, but it was nice to finally have a 'successful' shooting session with this gun!

I did tune up the hammer to be snug at max power instead of the slight bit of wiggle it previously had. With that, I am getting two 16shot magazines per 230bar fill, stopping right at the regulated pressure around 120bar. I haven't chronographed it at that setting yet, but it is using more air that when the hammer was wiggly, but it doesn't seem any louder.

My tank gauge is about 10bar off of my JoeB fill gauge that does match every other gun I have, so I suspect this gun gauge is off a bit.

In other news, I ordered a second magazine - FX Crown 16rd .25, and it would not fit in my gun! Upon inspection, the nub that stops the cover plate was too wide/high to fit in the hole, so it was pushing it out and making it too wide to fit. After contacting the vendor, they verified one that fits, and replaced the original one sent, and it works great!

Joe Cool: I have been following all of your posts concerning the Dreampup with a lot of interest, especially since I have one ordered with the bottle. Probably want get it until July. That will give me time to address some of the issues I have seen reported such as barrel droop,  and have some possible remedies for it if need be. Keep those posts coming. Thanks. Chet

Sid, what do you have your 22 dreamline set to.  I just got one and am wondering what hammer setting and reg setting works best.  Also do you get more FPS and power if you shoot a 22 on the 25/30 cal dial setting?

I have the Dream Lite .22. No barrel droop, but did have an occasional POI shift until I added the FX barrel support. Which FX USA sent me free of charge under their warranty policy. Took about a week. serviceusa@fxairguns.com or 866-6390772.  No other problems and it is unbelievably accurate shooting 18gr JSBs at 910fps; 25/30 on port, reg @140, hammer spring on 5. I would recommend one to anyone, next up for me is one in .25.

Why in the world would you want to take the free flight out of your hammer/ I can understand if wanting more power, but in your case, all you have accomplished is more air usage as you were not looking for more fps.


And secondly, why not take advantage of the free support offered by FX for your gun? Seems a no brainer to me.

I keep seeing inconsistent reports on this. For some the 10 round Streamline mag works and for others it doesn't fit. It'd be nice to understand this.

If I do purchase the FX I'd really like I'll probably order it from Trenier, I think Trenier would be a good choice because all I've heard is good about them.

yeah, i have taken advantage of the fx warranty support for the barrel support (was not available at the time of the original message) and re-free flighted the hammer, shimmed and unshimmed the hammer spring, installed and removed a huma reg (40 fps spread!) and played and shot it a bunch, and I am starting to like this gun.

i did do the dream tac kit for the picatinny rail and a much better stock- and with that the 6-24 scope I wanted to use on it works a lot better. i couldn't get a good cheek weld until i put a utg s1 stock on it.

Boy I like the way that one seems more like part of the gun as to all the others I have seen.

Slides over the shroud and butts up against the breech block. It has an internal groove with an oring to keep it in place, but i still shimmed it with a tiny sliver of plastic to keep it from moving even if i pick up the rifle by that area. It's super solid now.
