Quote from: rkr on May 27, 2019, 04:10:19 AMSo this is a 15" BSA barrel with 18" twist shooting at around 30 fpe that you guys are using? Show me some 1" groups at 100 yards and I'll order a mold and switch one of my BSAs to .22 I agree with Kirby. I'm shooting the 30 grain at 28 foot pounds, and I consider it good for 50-60 yards max. Those are my limitations, but I'm very comfortable with it in those boundaries.

At one point I did have a 15" .22 barrel in that BSA and it was good enough for 36+ fpe, would probably do closer to 40 fpe with 30 grainers which would be 750-800 fps.

I am not even putting a lot of effort to get my best groups yet because I have not matched the round to the barrels yet... to get to were going thru disciplined bench routine will make for better groups... these are also Basic untouched BSA budget rifles...not Bowkett designed BSA's that have been tuned to task as well as if John had done them himself...The round is coming out of more of a hunting rifle with a good serviceable trigger not a match grade competition trigger... everything is pointed to a different direction including the round...I did put in one best effort prone Rock Jr front rest 60 yard group with them out of my Buccaneer at about 32 fpe reply #7... got pretty good results but with a flier... did well with the JSB 25.4g but had a flier there also... did pull off a .3" by .4" (oto not ctc) five shot group with the JSB 15.89g...this was outside in good but not perfect conditions... For my stage of development with the rounds I am very happy... do not know if can match the JSB 15g with its small thin contact patches but working on getting closer... have a feeling in the wind the BBT will be better... for a 100 yard BBT .22 think a .224 40 ish grain would be the choice... a bit smaller meplat with a very slightly longer rebated boattail... would need to get 850 to 1050 fps or so also... buuuut that is just my take...Hmm, I was shooting 100M BR with 30 fpe .22 with JSB heavies and it wasn't too bad. EdAre you in good standing with your neighbor.........? Maybe get him started in air gun/shooting. Tia,Don
Based on Ed's test 1.5" groups at 100 seems possible and I'd guess 1" would be doable with some work, at least occasionally. That's better than I was ever able to achieve with .22 BSA barrel and pellets at that range outdoors. Looks like a nice combo, especially for hunting. Now I'm wondering how BBT slugs would work in my .25 BSA ...
I like Eddies pellet containers. Seems we old folkes have them aplenty. LOLBack in the day, we re-loaders called the bare bullets used for loading Pill's. Seems fitting. Now about the price of pure lead. Guys, your missing a cheap and easily found source. I go to the local scrap yards, and I find a lot of pure. Much of it is roof flashing and lead exhaust piping from same. Also, from time to time, they have PD indoor range scrap. All Speer gold Dot in .40 cal. which is plated pure. I find most of it at 45 to 55 cents a pound. Highest I have ever paid is 1.00 a pound. Many recyclers/scrap yards will buy the brass and copper jackets back from you. It adds up if you smelt several times a year. Knife
What I’m finding more and more is that unless the cast bullets look absolutely flawless , weighing , sizing and sorting is a must to get consistent groups . The more I cast the better the bullets look , that’s where pot temp , mold temp and timing come into play. Having a gun with the capability of a 1% or less ES also helps.
