Almost 2 years ago I wanted a .20 PCP but the options available were either expensive or guns I didn't want. I decided to go my own route and have a barrel made to fit a Mrod. It was an awesome gun but just wasn't a fan of the 13gr .20 JSBs as they were light weight. I ended up selling the gun. Here's the journey on it.

Now the JSB came out with the .20 Heavy pellets in 15.89gr I knew I needed a .20 again. So this is my .20 2.0 build lol. Having had both Gen1 and Gen2 Mrods over the years I've decided that I prefer the feel of the Gen1. They just seem to cock smoother and easier and I'm not sure why but just how it is to me. So got a Gen1 .22 just simple and bone stock nothing changed. Had Roy make me another .20 LW choked barrel for it except this time he made it like a standard Mrod barrel without the SS tray built into it. And the oring is in the barrel and had him sleeve a .177 bolt. This works fantastic this way and best thing is I believe I can easily modify a .177 mag to fit .20 pellets and will have a mag fed .20 Mrod!! I just got the heavy pellets yesterday and had only a little time before I had to leave for youth group. I quick got it sighted in and just a rough rough tune and at 20yds shooting at 930fps it was putting them in the same pellet hole!! Was using up alittle more air than I wanted to bumped down to 900fps and then quickly moved out to 55yds and started stacking pellets as well! Definitely capable of .5" 5 shot groups already. I'm floored with this gun. Will be updating with pics and doing a tune on it here soon. Also will be showing my mods to the mags to (hopefully) work for the .20. Stay tuned!

Woot! I saw that thread on the new JSB. Will have to try some. Luckily I stocked up with a "lifetime" supply of the Crosman 14.3 which my Rapid was tuned to shoot. When Webley was closing out their pellets, I scored 24 tins! I still have 6 of the cardboard boxes as well so yeah, I think that's a lot of pellets. But they're like unobtanium you know!

Lucky! A Rapid MK2 .20 tuned by AZ is like the holy grail .20 to me. And I heard they are usually insanely accurate with the 14.3 Crosman premiers. Makes you wonder why they ever stopped making them.

Nice. If you can't get the mag to work, you could aways try from the other direction - use a .22 breech, bolt, and mag and mod those down smaller.

The only problem is that you probably won't find a Gen I .22 breech anywhere on it's own - I tried and couldn't find one (so I went with one of the sidelever ones available from airgunbuy.com for a lot more money than a factory part).

BTW, I agree that the Gen I's seem to function better, especially the trigger too. But the other ergonomics are not as good as the Gen IIs, at least without a good aftermarket stock . . . .

My last .20 was a Beeman R-1. Loved it. I grew up shooting an Sheridan .20. Just too darned windy here for .20. Wind all the time.

Thanks guys! Yeah this is gonna be my tinkerer. Not much to tinker with the Flex and eventually the EVOL so gotta have one to tinker with.

I'm really not thinking the mag should be hard at all modifying it. The .177 and .22 mags are the exact same size just different holes so in theory enlarging the holes some should do the trick. We'll see. It's a good thing Mrod mags are cheap lol.

But yes Alan I completely agree. The Gen1 just feel smoother in function however of all the guns I've owned one of the best feeling stocks to me is the Gen2 Mrods. I'm going to look into modding a Gen2 stock to fit. I know they mount differently but really think the back end only needs to be modified. We'll see!

Yeah I kind of think the Rapid MKII .20 AZ tuned is the holy grail. Well I did get to shoot a Wiscombe once but that's a once in a lifetime.

Ok, I'm gonna be mean and tell you that I lucked out and bought the Rapid for $600! And he threw in 4 boxes of CPLs! The guy completely knew what he had. He was getting out of shooting and when he knew I understood what it was and appreciated it he wanted me to have it. I am blessed!

Might be worth it to try the recent JSB 15.89gr....early in the investigation, but so far they've impressed me.

A few pics from yesterday. One showing the barrel and probe. Nothing really special just showing it looks like a standard Mrod.

This is the initial sighting in at 20yds. Dont mind the single hole shots that was getting on target. The farthest group at top and left are 5 shots with the 15.89gr and the farthest right and the one under the 9 on the left are the 13.73gr. Very accurate!!

One shows 3 5 shot groups at 55yds. The left 2 are with the new 15.89gr heavies and the other one on the right is with the 13.73gr JSBs. Could see them destabilizing some so the 900fps tune with the heavies is too fast for them at this range. But I'm very happy with it.

Looking darned good so far Dillon.

tonight, going to machine a new bolt/probe for te Rs so I can use it with an o ring in the probe. Want to use the mag again.

Now I am shooting with a single shot tray, and a barrel with no o ring. Found a work around for testing however. But can't use the mag with it.
Vermin season is starting. Need the mag.

Thanks Mike! That sounds like a good idea. I agree that's why I need a mag as well. Squirrels should be coming out well shoot about 2 weeks ago by now and nothing yet. Our brutal late winter might have killed alot off. But when there out theres so many

Same here, I haven't seen a red squirrel in a couple years haha. The gray ones don't bother me, or haven't yet...

Well technically there belding ground squirrels which basically are like baby prairie dogs. They ate a few acres worth of corn from our field last year. Wouldn't be sad if they were decimated by the winter lol. But I have seen a few around but not in our field this year. Maybe we'll be rid of them!
