Is FX Airguns really that bad?

Good reading in this thread.  Some of us don't really like them.  Some love them.  Some think these are overengineered and some think they are just too expensive while others would be willing to pay even more if needed.

I consider them fine pieces of equipment...

But I still prefer my EdGuns.  They were designed from the ground up to be used, not pampered.

I prefer the journey as much if not more than the destination, and enjoyed modifying my entry level / budget rifle into performance that rivals and in many cases outright crushes higher end competitors. Having a bench/safe queen that you fear getting a scratch on or bumping because its poi will change is not my way, but for some, its their way, and to each their own...

I think, the real question is...'Is FX Airguns really that good' and to that I say, not in my opinion. They are popular, and have done a wonderful job marketing and building sponsorships that double down on their hype...short of that, imo...they are light years behind in many ways and are just recently catching up to some degree the last couple years.

Every airgun I have handled and shot, be it my marauder, or an AA S510, or an FX Impact, has impressed me with their accuracy and ability to stack pellets...at the end of the day these rifles are simple (until you get to the newer hammerless semi autos such as hubens and the new lehsiy 2)...in that they all slap a hammer against a valve that releases a set amount of air down a bore that sends your projectile wherever you aim it, ultimately if you can provide consistent release of air (easy to achieve), the last variable comes down to rigidity and barrel quality...which again are both easy to ensure. So with that, I cannot definitively say, that any one brand is far superior to another...no one can objectively state such.


I know people in here that have opinions that shift like the winds or seasons, in that they once disputed the usefulness of aluminum air cylinders and that they preferred the extra weight of the OEM tube, and later find they equipped both their marauders with said aluminum tubes and having nothing but positive things to say...so when it comes to these subjective opinions, take them with a grain of salt...I know I do.

I dont get the dislike? And a lot seems to come from folks who have never owned one. At one point I almost bought into it. Fast forward to my first wildcat. This was my second attempt to like a pup after having a cricket a few years back.   Fine gun, never a problem. Just couldn't make myself like a pup.
Give me more shots! Fx Royale...awesome simple well built gun. Never a problem.  Sold it off to purchase a Raptor. That fell through.  Wanted to try the impact but horror stories all over the forums.  Watched a lot of Ernest's vids and plunked my money down.
  I'm so glad I did!  Lots of part and o-rings. I've tore it down just to see how it was put together.  This gen 2 pp is put together like a finely machined erector set! It's  just flat out cool to me how everything works together as a unit and fits together perfectly.

I wouldn't recommend this gun for a first timer for obvious reasons. But if you've regulated a few non regulated guns or built a few QB"s and have a grip on how to tune, it's an awesome platform.
Not an edgun for sure, wouldn't run it over with my truck. But not dainty by no means. I did a recount of my empty tinsel and have 7200 downrange in about three and a half months without a hitch.  It stays leaned in a corner by the back window most of the time. Gets put on the floor of my truck and has banged off of door jambs and window sills getting in a hurry to swat pests. Get this, doesn't lose zero!   
When an oring goes south,  I'm pretty sure I could have it up and holdind air in about a half hour or so.  Either you love em or hate em when you read about them I guess. Seems no middle ground when it comes them.

Love all my FX guns .. albeit the Impact has got me frustrated. When they work they are fantastic, and pretty well all mine work great. And they usually work .. Impact is a bit finicky it seems .. some people don't like it when you say that .. but "c'est la vie".

Two fx's in my arsenal of air. Bobcat mkll 30 and impact mkll 30 both are slug launchers. The impact has more power both are deadly accurate. No issues with either one.

Well said!  It certainly took me a while because of all the hype.  I don't necessarily like that it's an "FX Impact MK2" with all the hype, whoopie.  I sure do care for how it performs and all of the capabilities it offers me though.  It's a solid build, like many others and I like it.

I have no issues with FX Products. Are they all perfect out of the box ..... No, but neither are the products from any manufacturer and I have a knack of finding bad products. 
I do have an issue with the head of FX-USA who I used to admire greatly when he was with AGD but now I don't trust him one bit!

Why are you acting this way when he tried offering assistance- IE: throwing it back in his face?  That doesn't fly at shooting competitions either. 

Back to the topic at hand: is FX that bad?  Probably not, but man-o-man have there been a lot of complaint threads.  For the coin spent, they should be darn near flawless.  Another PC, the Taipan Mutant- is one of several others at the same approximate range with far fewer complaints.  Same could be said for the BSA R10, AA510, and KalibrGun Cricket, as well as the Vulcan. 

Like I said, I'll stick with my EdGuns- as much because I like Ed and his world-view as EdGun's offerings.

Yes .. you are right .. I was in mid rant mode and I regret the way I said what I said. I have fixed the leak in the Impact and have calmed down. Happy days now !

Want to apologize to you Glem. I came across as as a jerk, and as much as I say I did not mean anything personally it was certainly inappropriate .. mea culpa.
On a happier note I fixed the leak in my Impact. Could not find it it until I got CRC spray leak detector. It was the forward oring on the power plenum .. ham fisted assembly it would appear, as it was visibly gouged. You were spot on as working on it was fairly simple, although care to detail is required. Has not leaked for over 24 hours now. Only puzzlement is that my reg gauge registers 10 bar lower, but that is a separate issue. Thank you for your advice and the link to the Krale video as that is the one I used for reference.  Not sure how the gun got out of the FX factory with a butchered oring but as they say .. stuff happens. Thanks again .. hope we're cool.

All good Ron,  i know you we're frustrated and I don't blame you.  I put a power plenum from Poland in October and had some leaks out of there and CRC helped me find it.  Mine was the one that seals along the valve rod.  Would be a good idea for them to chamfer the block back there so its less likely that the outer orings get knicked on assembly. (Or use more grease)

Time to enjoy that beauty I'm sure youre to love it.  The guns have many orings but only 10 or so are under pressure and quick to find out which if it happens.  And you've already done basically the trickiest part.  Easy gun to work on with attention to detail like you said.

Fx guns are excellent, i have an Crown and the semiauto that doesnt work. but fit and finish is top not, triggers are aslo good.

Yeah i do, got 133 at one point in .30.  The plenum i have is the one before FX came out with theirs and still use the original hammer spring and rubber ball in the valve stop.  I like it better than the current style.

No, FX guns are awesome and some of the best.  They also come ready to shoot, so not much to talk about really...They just work and shoot amazingly well.

All I can say is I got 10 years without any issues on these three converted air rifles...the Dominator HPA .22 just blew an o-ring a week ago.
Top= .177 CO2
Middle = HPA .177 regulated'
Bottom= Dominator HPA .22 regulated

Always wanted an FX for years but cost kept me out of that mix.
