Is FX Airguns really that bad?

Hi,
Noob just wondering how bad they really are, i am seeing complaints from everyone on other makes of airguns.

I also cant find another manufacturer that makes a side lever synthetic stock with a bottle that is removable, like the FX Royale 400.

(I tend to be rough on things, plus forcing my way thru brush, im a little clumsy, and i cant go by any body water without falling in it)

I shy away cause others say “stay away from FX”. So are they really that bad? Seems Airgun Depot or the others would honor their sales, right?

I have the Royale.  It has been a fine gun.  Very accurate and easy to work on.  It's a proven design and a pleasure to shoot. 

My only issue has been with the regulator.  Here is  recent string.  I still think it could / should be more consistent.

when people tell you to stay away, ask them what kind of “problems” they been having. accuracy with fx is very good! fx guns are expensive in general. i have an fx revolution and it has been a pain to work on. has semi auto recycle problems...fixed it but took me 24 hours to do.

   most royal and impact owners seem to be satisfied.

$2,260 is a bit much, no doubt its a good pellet ripper, but. Decisions huh? I like that its made in USA.

I like the foreward action, and that its rugged.

Im a bit all over, i know. I just think about the cost “james gaszak” on you tube for instance about fx wildcat he purchased.

Brand new, send it back, got a new one, its jacked too, fx says to send it in for 2 months. Brand new $1,500, and the two he recieved were junk, all this fuss for what?

Maybe i will stick to tanks like hatsan, but the bully is so hideous!

Based on your chart label, this is after installing a Huma regulator?

My 177 Bantam HiLite (no regulator) shoots 63 shots from 160 -> 135 bar with ES of 2.5%; tuned to 15.6 fpe.

I've seen one FX Streamline owner install a Huma regulator (Joe Cool). I'm really interested to see how the new Dreamline performs. It was supposed to be out in June, still not out. Rumor has it available for pre-order in Nov or Dec.

I have a Royale as well 12k+ shots through it,  and just replaced a few o-rings.  Super reliable, accurate and powerful,  the reg can use some improvement it's been decent but I've ordered a Huma.   The Impact in .177 seems to have some accuracy issues from what I've read.  But people who rave and rave about how unreliable they are usually have an agenda they're trying to push.

I don't think FX guns are that bad.  A lot of people have had very good luck with them.  They are like a fine piece of machinery in many respects.  Sure, there have been some people with issues, but that is with almost any gun.  Your last statement is what caught my attention.  I honestly can't recommend a Hatsan to anyone right now.  I don't know what's up with them lately, but they aren't what they were even a year ago.  They have started cutting corners they didn't use to cut.  If you have an issue, be prepared to get mad.  I would even recommend a Kral over a Hatsan right now, unless Hatsan makes some changes real soon.

I've never bought a high end pcp personally but I think if I did that I'd pretty much expect some sort of upkeep on it because o rings are the weakest point on all of them IMO !!!

ALL pcp airguns are mechanical contraptions that are made of little tiny parts such as o-rings, little screws, little springs, little metal pieces, and little plastics.  Some even need batteries.  ALL these parts need to work as designed in conjunction and remain air tight 100% of the time against thousands of pounds of air pressure.  Doesn’t matter what name is stamped on the the side of the airgun.  If any one of these variables fail...  It ain’t gonna work right.

I own three FX pcp’s Streamline (.22), Crown (.25), & Wildcat Mk2 (.25).  They all worked as advertised out of the box.  Installed Huma regulators in the Steamline and Wildcat myself.  The Crown is adjusted/ tuned again by me to a higher power level.  They all work and shoot just how I want, and can use either of them at any given time to pick off a critter with one well placed shot.  Or, pull anyone of them out of the case and target shoot all weekend in my 75 yard backyard range(nothing fancy there is a open field behind my home).  Your milage may vary, but my FX’s ain’t that bad.  Can’t comment on if I take a trip and fall or spill in the mud or pond with’em.  I’d imagine any brand pcp is gonna need some T.L.C. after doing that.  Cleaning, drying, re-zeroing, repairs etc.

No, FXs are not bad at all, and that's coming from a guy that simply does not like FX airguns.  There's people with agenda blasting them.  And yeah, for that price range, it should be flawless out of the box.  The Taipan Mutant, which costs less than most FX airguns, IS flawless out of the box, and you'll be hardpressed to find complaints about them. 

If your goal is hunting and traipsing around in the brush, there's plenty of other choices that cost less than FX.  If want something you can abuse and lose in the water, then ask yourself why you really want the FX Royale.  What makes it justifiable to risk damaging.  Do you really need a detachable bottle?  Will you ever really detach it?  Are you okay with sticking to just JSB pellets?  And would a simpler/cheaper FX in rifle-format meet the same need, such as the single-shot Typhoon, which is a simple, rugged design and can be purchased with a sythetic stock.

It may be worth writing down what you want in an airgun and then presenting it to members here to garner more input.  I know I was all-out on buying a PRod and ended up with a SPA PP700 pistol because it met all the requirements I wanted.

If you want tough and aren't looking to spend a fortune (like $2k) keep your eye out for a used EDgun R3M in whichever caliber you prefer.  Also can put a WTB ad on a couple forums for one.  Awesome guns and used in great shape R3M's can be found for around $1k now that the R5M is here.

its true that there are many topics about fx and problems but we all dont know how much rifles they selling.

and i think sometimes the problem sits behind the gun. specially when we are talking about the impact. its not difficult to mess something up with all this adjustability.

I handled and shot a wildcat, and while it was nice, it didn't feel so durable. That experience and everyones glowing reviews of the mutant led me to purchase the latter.

That is my only experience with FX, and it was admittedly the "lower end" of the FX line. The stock was very nice touch feel, the weight was balanced, but the trigger was squishy, nor could we get better than about half inch at 25 yards with it.

I have both the hatsan bullboss and kral puncher mega. the bullboss has a bent barrel, they sent another one after seen just a few pictures from me. i bought a scope that cant adjust, they sent me my money back, offered me for an upgrade cheaper. Hatsan has been good to me. Kral is very good quality, their valves makes you think the gun is regulated....this is your deciding factor! do you want regulated or not. i highly recommend regulators because the point of impact doesnt change much compared to unregulated. i highly recommend cheaper regulated guns for starting out, you will be mad and quit pcp hobby if one expensive gun doesnt work.

Yup.  I think I have found the cause though...  I'm betting that a sharp mating surface on the female side of the foster fill / valve is shaving off small bits of the foster fill o-ring.  I have found tiny bits of rubber inside the plenum that likely came from this.  I think harder o-ring and/or taking down the sharpness should help here.

I've been very happy with my revo for almost 12 years. I bought in very early because of great luck with a Solo .177.

I have not had the problems other have stated. The revo even cycles CPUMs since i got it one of the newer metal mags. Those first run plastics had to go.  The first year run of revos were also tuned a little hotter.  But I never had any of the action issues I've heard were caused by lead dust feedback.

IDK whats with the haters, mine have both been great besides typical o-ring maintenance that every pcp needs.

I really havent wrote it down what i need, i know what i want.

Removeable bottle: so i can carry a spare with me. High shot count and power too.

Synthetic stock like reasons mentioned.

Compact-ish, i like the bullpups, but no bottle, thats why i was contemplating Kral nemisis/space.

.25 caliber,

Mostly plinking, while hunting, bored easily. Gauntlet, Royale 400 with cheese, Impact, are my choices.

I saw a RTI Priest? Any good? Looks pretty decent, lightweight, bottle, half as much as a impact.
